ASSASSIN'S CREED Movie Adaptation Gets A Writer

ASSASSIN'S CREED Movie Adaptation Gets A Writer

With Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) attached to star and produce, New Regency and Ubisoft have hired British writer Michael Lesslie (Prince Of Denmark) to pen the screenplay for their upcoming Assassin's Creed adaptation. We also have a first logline for the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, up-and-coming screenwriter Michael Lesslie (who previously wrote Prince Of Denmark and a number of short films, including Skirt) has signed on to work on the script for New Regency and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed movie. Prometheus and X-Men: First Class actor Michael Fassbender will star in and produce the film adaptation of Ubisoft's top-selling video game franchise. Ubisoft Motion Pictures is developing Assassin's Creed closely with New Regency, and the two are also partnering on a Splinter Cell adaptation (which has The Dark Knight Rises' Tom Hardy attached to star). Assassin's Creed "centers on a bartender who is captured by a secret corporation and sent back in time to relive the memories of his ancestors -- all of them assassins -- and retrieve ancient artifacts." Despite previous comments suggesting a late 2014 release date, New Regency and Ubisoft hope to have the film in theaters before the end of 2013. A director and cast should be locked down in the near future. Stay tuned to CBM for more news on Assassin's Creed.

YES! Bring it on! i hope Fassbender will play Altair, leave Desmond to someone slightly younger.... This movie will be frekkin awesome :D

Written by a playwright and possibly out by the end of the year?

I've only read great news about this film.
santoanderson - 1/14/2013, 1:36 PM
Well it won't be hard to write a better story than that of the games. The story, and ending, to Assassin's Creed 3 pissed me off.

End of 2013?! That is not 'great' news as that is far too soon! This is Ubisofts first film attempt (they weren't involved in Prince of Persia) and most video game movies suck. You can't rush this!

End of 2014 EARLIEST! They're still scripting!

Love the game franchise, except finding Assassins Creed 3 disappointing, so am excited to see this, and am glad they're retaining the Desmond storyline too.

Suhhh-weet!! :D

This is moving nicely, really. Just give us some cast news for this film, and BOOM! Let the epicness begin. But who will Fassbender play as? I'm hoping Altair. But, hell, either way, it'll be great. :)
Mrcool210 - 1/14/2013, 1:39 PM
oh this is his first big movie script? ehh, im worried
charlie2094 - 1/14/2013, 1:41 PM

Avengers was Joss Whedon's first big movie script. Sometimes its best to have people who don't usually make such films work on big films.
CaptainAmerica31 - 1/14/2013, 1:41 PM
This movie is shaping up nicely
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 1:42 PM
And I have to agree with @Charlie2094 here. A film adaption much like Assassin's Creed isn't something that needs to be rushed (at least, I hope they're not doing so). Take the time to accomplish and complete each task in this film and have it done and when it can be finished. But for the script, it really shouldn't be THAT hard to do. The games are pretty much the script itself. But of course adding in a few small, minor details wouldn't hurt.
ForeverPowerful - 1/14/2013, 1:42 PM
Sweet! I have high hopes for this. Get Patrick Wilson to be Desmond, if the film centers on him that is.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 1:42 PM
@Malcopunch - I hope so. :)
charlie2094 - 1/14/2013, 1:43 PM

Ezio will come. If they just start off with Ezio, there's not really any going back and they need to explore different ancestors and locations to make the sequels appeal, so it makes more sense to start as the games do, than go straight to Ezio.
Hellsing - 1/14/2013, 1:48 PM
Lol really peoples problem is the fact that the writer is an unknown and that this is his first big project, you gotta be joking. You should be more worried about the fact that its being rushed so early I mean end of 2013, unless Matthew Vaughns directing then ehh don't see it working out too well. But Fassbenders producing and the guy doesn't seem like the type that wants to [frick] up his good form of late.
Hellsing - 1/14/2013, 1:50 PM
Its best if they just leave the whole desmond story line alone and just come up with original characters I mean the AC world is pretty [frick]ing huge.
charlie2094 - 1/14/2013, 1:52 PM

What? I don't understand. Desmond is the main character in the entire game series and that logline for the movie talks about Desmond, so it's almost a certainty that Desmond will be in the film, though Fassbender's likely to be Altair. From what we've heard, it sounds a lot like this movie is adapting the first game.
ForeverPowerful - 1/14/2013, 1:53 PM
They have alot of material to work with, with all of the people using the animus in abstergo. An all new assassin in a never before seen time period would be awesome. If they are planning on hiring a director, casting, scouting locations/doing pre-production, shooting, post production, and then trailers and media attention all within 2013, it better be released like December 31st.
MisterBabadook - 1/14/2013, 2:26 PM
Whoa-ho, hey now, before the end of 2013? Don't go rushing it now. Give it an April release and you're good.
pimpinwhiteninja - 1/14/2013, 2:51 PM
I am so excited as a huge fan of Assassin's Creed, but even I'll admit the end of 2013 is too soon if they haven't written the script yet. Don't rush it. This could be the first really good Video Game movie so they better not screw it up.
ManofSteel23 - 1/14/2013, 2:52 PM
As a rally big fan if the fanchise, the closer the start is to the game the better, only have Altair in this one and Ezio in the next, just plays it like the games, only change the ending of the 3rd film cos the ending sucked in the game!
StarkRaving - 1/14/2013, 3:11 PM
@Charlie2094, Joss Whedon wrote 3 film scripts and co-wrote 7 others before co-writing (with Zak Penn) the Avengers script.
charlie2094 - 1/14/2013, 3:20 PM

Serenity doesn't count as it wasn't big and more just a continuation of the TV show. I had admittedly forgotten about Alien 3, but that's a good thing :P There are others like Cabin in the Woods, but I was really talking about big films, of which Avengers was his first, everything before was of a much smaller scale.
charlie2094 - 1/14/2013, 3:23 PM

Would it make sense? What would you do then in Assassins Creed 2 when you have Ezio, a florentine nobleman, or Assassins Creed 3 when there's Connor, a native american? You can't have Fassbender play those too, so it doesn't make much sense. He can't be both Altair and Desmond.
InfiniteMonkey - 1/14/2013, 3:24 PM
They should get John Woo to direct.
Stylized action.
superotherside - 1/14/2013, 4:04 PM
They've got a Fassbender... that might make this movie good.
xRelentlessx - 1/14/2013, 4:36 PM
Fassbender is the lead? And you guys are okay with that? Why is it okay to whitewash? I'm not a fan of Assassin's Creed, but this whitewashing bullshit is really [frick]ing annoying. Altair is NOT white.
ibravosp5 - 1/14/2013, 5:00 PM
BEFORE THE END OF 2013?!?!?!?!? HELL YES!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!
ibravosp5 - 1/14/2013, 5:05 PM
And i really don't know where this movie will go....cause the game is like 10 hours or so...and it says "them assassins" meaning we might see ezio and connor too....all of this will have to be shortened.....
Nighmarewalking117 - 1/14/2013, 5:30 PM
Can't they just come-up with a "new Assassin"? Its not hard to do. As much as I am a fan of the whole-idea...still don't know about: Fassbender though and I can't see him playing: both: Desmond and Altair. Hmmm, a bartender and an: Assassin? I don't know? "End of 2013" still seems rushed to me, like everyone else has said.
TheSoulEater - 1/14/2013, 7:47 PM
No Fassbender as Alt
mgeoff88 - 1/14/2013, 8:56 PM
Huh? Prince of Denmark and Skirt? Why not get a writer that's good at penning action/adventure films?

I really hope this and Splinter Cell turn out great!
SugarYumYum - 1/14/2013, 9:15 PM
Um... I'm pretty much with ckal and Hellsing, rushing a movie like that doesn't ring bells of confidence with me... like seriously not even 12 months wtf.
