BERANDAL (THE RAID 2) Plot Details, Casting Updates & Concept Art

We didn't cover the first Raid (aka the best action movie of all time) here because at the time there was no comic spin-off, but there is now! Check out some concept art for a new character called "Hammer Girl", as well as some more updates..

Gareth Evans' The Raid is a truly phenomenal film, easily making my top 5 movies of 2012 - and now that we know there's a comic book adaptation, we can bring you some news on the upcoming sequel, entitled Berandal. Joining lead actor Iko Uwais will be Julie Estelle (Macabre), who will play Hammer Girl (check out the concept art above) with other parts going to Alex Abbad, Marsha Timothy, Mathias Muchus, Tio Pakusadewo and Internationally renowned silat practitioner Cecep Arif Rahman. In addition, Evans has provided Geek Tyrant with an idea of what we can expect from the story..

"The idea is to take it out of that building. We've already done something self contained, we want to do something now whereby the boss of that building and and the building itself everything that was terrifying and scary about that in the first film is considered small fry when it comes to the the second film. So, we go to a much bigger underworld organization, and it should be great."

Principal photography commences in a couple of weeks.

My Dad lives in Indonesia he was a SEAL and consulted on this movie. I remember him sending me photos from the set while it was filming. He had no clue it would turn into a big hit. I still have the photos somewhere.

The movie's already got most of the better to great Indonesian actors thrown in to the cast, and that's enough to get me extremely excited for this. The bigger scale is another factor, but it also relates to my concern about the movie being less humble...but I won't think much about it! I can hardly wait for this.

Hopefully that report of Roy Marten joining the cast was also true.

The best action movie of all time. Wrong. The best action movie of all time is Terminator 2 lol.
MisterBabadook - 1/2/2013, 11:36 PM
Merantau has a much better story but The Raid has better action, music, and editing.

There was a comic spin-off done last spring of The Raid. A month after the film release, although it was announced prior to the the film's U.S. release. It's not like it was just done recently.
Maximus101 - 1/3/2013, 8:46 AM
@marvel72 the raid was technically released in 2011.. Just saying
Ranger14 - 1/3/2013, 9:15 AM
^^^^That's highly debatable, depending on what one considers being "released". Many wouldn't consider being played at a handful of film festivals as being officially released. Official box office release in theaters or "wide release" is generally what is accepted as the "official" year of release for a film, which in this case, occurred in March of 2012.

This movie was crap. The fight scenes were the only "good" thing in the movie and they were tedious and drawn out at best.
