BOX OFFICE: Sam Mendes' SKYFALL Is Already The UK's Second Highest Grossing Movie Of All-Time

There's just no stopping Skyfall! After just two and a half weeks of release, the 23rd instalment in the beloved franchise has surpassed the likes of Titanic and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 to become the second highest grossing movie of all-time in the UK. Its next target? Avatar.

Earlier this week, Skyfall crossed the $100 million mark in North America and as of Sunday, it had a worldwide cume of $518.6 million. Released in the UK two weeks ahead of the US, the Sam Mendes helmed instalment in the James Bond franchise has been breaking record after record, although it now has the honour of being the UK's second highest grossing film of all-time. It beat Titanic, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Toy Story 3 to take the #2 position, although with £74.3 million ($117.7 million) it still has a little way to go before it takes the top spot held by James Cameron's Avatar (£94 million/$148.9 million). Do you think it can do it? It is however now the highest grossing 2D film ever. You can read my 5* review of Skyfall by clicking HERE.

The film is from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Directed by Sam Mendes. Produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. Written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and John Logan.

So you don't think it can bing in $30 million more in the UK?

I really enjoyed it, I don't think it's the best Bond film of all time but it's definitely in my top 5...

Casino Royale

I think it was great. Daniel Craig has imo really nailed the role of James Bond. Definitely one of my favorite Bond flicks.

Avatar was a beautiful looking film that did push the envelope of what was possible but ... the story and characterisation were appalling.

Was that next to quitehardtofindium and costalottodigupium??
ironpool007 - 11/14/2012, 10:48 AM
It'll make at least a billion when all is said and done and the numbers are in.

It would be awesome if Skyfall were to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars this year. Bond deserves that sort of recognition (as does this film).
