Despite The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey initially being predicted to be #1 at the box office again this weekend, it looks like Texas Chainsaw 3D will remove the film's 3-week streak. Meanwhile, Django Unchained makes it to second place.

Originally, it was expected that Warner Bros.' The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey would be #1 at the box office for a fourth week in a row, with Lionsgate's Texas Chainsaw 3D (the biggest new release this weekend) debuting at #2. The slasher film, which is described as a direct sequel to the 1974 original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, was initially projected to gross somewhere in the mid-teens in its opening weekend. However, the movie has now surpassed expectations and grossed $10.2 million on Friday, putting it in the #1 spot. It's now projected to gross somewhere in the $20 million range this weekend. Another surprise sees Quentin Tarantino's revenge thriller Django Unchained grossing $6.2 million and dropping only 36%. While it's possible that these films' R-ratings will prevent them from outgrossing the PG-13 The Hobbit and Les Miserables this weekend, it appears that Texas Chainsaw will keep the former from reaching a four-week winning streak. Meanwhile, The Hobbit grossed $5.2 million, putting it in third place, while Les Mis is right behind it with $5 million.

The Hobbit recently crossed $500 million overseas, and has currently grossed nearly $765 million worldwide. Django Unchained has so far grossed an impressive $92 million domestically. What do you plan on seeing at the movies this weekend?

thats pretty shocking
PaulRom - 1/5/2013, 11:39 AM
Is it a reboot? Yes and no. It's apparently a direct sequel to the first movie released in '74, but it ignores the events of the other movies that came out after. Sounds like Superman Returns.

Texas Chainsaw.. was so unbelievably bad that I wanted to leave. I have never wanted to leave a movie before, and I've seen some pretty bad movies. I only stayed because it was with my girlfriend.

It was really bad. Please don't give them more money to make another one..

Basically it takes place after the events of every other movie, and is modern. They try to go for some 'Halloween' rip offs, and they try to give some complexity to Leatherface, note: I said they TRY, but they only half-try, and they shit the bed.

Every horror movie cliche, every stupid as shit decision and motive.

Both Skyfall and The Hobbit still to be released in China, Hobbit looks like it could do very close to a Billion by its final run.
bazinga85 - 1/5/2013, 12:21 PM
This is disappointingly surprising. I heard this movie sucked.
MisterBabadook - 1/5/2013, 12:37 PM
How does that happen?
Tymminator - 1/5/2013, 1:09 PM
TCM3D will not stay on top long, the movie is garbage.
DioFoRio - 1/5/2013, 1:37 PM
yeah. Heard this sucked....even after Tobey Hooper told fans that it was an original to his first classic AND he said it would be good....fuggin shame. You guys should check out John Dies at the End..good ole fun movie made by Coscarelli. They should do a remake of Phantasm..but not hire WB or Cdubya kids.
DioFoRio - 1/5/2013, 1:38 PM
sequel to his first classic.

BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 1/5/2013, 4:44 PM
I just tattooed a guy that watched this and said it was horrible which i figured it would be. We usually like the same movies so I think I'll wait for Netflix. Glad I trusted my gut and didn't waste money on this.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 1/5/2013, 4:47 PM
And I said it before "Having a Leatherface from the 70's in today's time is a fail he would be an old man in his 60's. what's wrong with Hollywood? :(
MisterBabadook - 1/5/2013, 8:00 PM
Right? Dude wouldn't be able to pick up a hatchet let alone wield a chainsaw
DoubleD - 1/6/2013, 6:06 PM
Loved this movie. A lot of fun. And it was sequel to the 2006 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. They already annouced a sequeal to this one.
riseofloganX36 - 1/7/2013, 10:46 AM
It's a new story not really a sequal but a new telling of the story. It's called texas chaian saw 3d not really part of the texas chainsaw mssacre. It dose show some sceans from the origanl from the 70s.

It was really good i like any thing horror and chain saw so i loved it. I also liked the remake vershion and the chain saw beginnings the prequal to the remake.

I can see why. This movie was pretty good. I think people just enjoy hating this franchise.
