Is CHRONICLE Scribe Max Landis Writing The New POWER RANGERS Movie?

The latest from the Schmoes' Phantom scooper puts outspoken Chronicle writer Max Landis on script duties for the recently announced Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot. In fact, according to them he's even turned in a first draft. More past the jump.

The Schmoes report that Max Landis (Chronicle) is currently writing the script for the big screen reboot of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers tv show, and has just turned in a draft to the movie's producers, Jim Miller, Alison Shearmur and Haim Saban. That's all we have to go on for now, but chances are Landis will have something to say about this one way or the other, so keep an eye out for updates. This new take on the Power Rangers is described as: "A re-imagining of the original Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with cool and new super powers but must learn to work together as a team and harness their powers if they have any chance at saving the world."

This is getting interesting.
Vegeta - 5/14/2014, 4:29 PM
The question is, is Michael Bay directing?

MrBlackJack - 5/14/2014, 4:30 PM
I actually heard this rumor a few months ago and didn't think anything of it.
Vegeta - 5/14/2014, 4:32 PM
I actually want Michael Bay to direct this movie. He'd be great for Power Rangers, with all the explosions and shit.
JordanKing - 5/14/2014, 4:34 PM
Michael Bay shouldn't even take a glance at this project. Power Rangers was my childhood, and yeah it's incredibly corny now, but even they don't deserve the Bay-effect.

Max Landis meanwhile.. I like it!
Vegeta - 5/14/2014, 4:34 PM
I mean let's face it, the chances of Power Rangers being panned regardless of who's working on the film is extremely high, so they might as well get Michael Bay.
Highflyer - 5/14/2014, 4:34 PM
Michael Bay would be perfect for power rangers (I can't believe I just said Bay would be perfect for something)
MrBlackJack - 5/14/2014, 4:35 PM
If done correctly, this could be Chronicle/X-Men meets Pacific Rim!
XF14 - 5/14/2014, 4:35 PM
I almost pooped myself laughing. Thanks CBM community!
DaVinci31 - 5/14/2014, 4:36 PM
I could almost picture what Lionsgate would do with the Power Rangers, and altough it would be really cool, throwing someone in like Landis would be pretty interesting.
MrBlackJack - 5/14/2014, 4:37 PM
Is it normal to shit yourself laughing? I'm sure it was an exaggeration, but if that's ever happened to someone on here I'd get that checked out.
MrBlackJack - 5/14/2014, 4:37 PM
*The More You Know!!!*
mbembet - 5/14/2014, 4:37 PM
i always prefer Kamen Rider over super sentai
XF14 - 5/14/2014, 4:38 PM
I will say this... if they turn Power Rangers into something seriously epic, I will stop drinking (31days at least). I will also do other things to make up for such a magnanimous sacrifice, but shhhh dont tell.
CaptainObvious - 5/14/2014, 4:38 PM
I cloud see this happening, even if Max Landis is a self-absorbed, obnoxious, know-it-all twat
Doopie - 5/14/2014, 4:39 PM
have the spider-man rights gone back?
XF14 - 5/14/2014, 4:40 PM
XD I assure you MrBlackJack, it's not the norm, but historical nonetheless. However, it was exaggeration, I simply farted a lot.
JimGordonStache - 5/14/2014, 4:40 PM
I'd like for them to reimagine the Power Rangers as some kind of a young version of the Avengers. Each of them with his and her personality, with overall light tone but some pretty dark moments.
Mike89 - 5/14/2014, 4:41 PM

Yea i agree, Michael Bay is good a blowing shit up, so technically power rangers suits him. Power Rangers has always been corny and goofy, the new movie might as well embrace it.
DaVinci31 - 5/14/2014, 4:41 PM

As long as we have this back:

I'm on board.
Knightrider - 5/14/2014, 4:41 PM
@Doopie Has a multi million dollar making franchise just been given to another company? No it hasn't.
XF14 - 5/14/2014, 4:42 PM
ruadh - 5/14/2014, 4:42 PM
I hope he is. After his ASM baloney, I hope every movie he makes is something I have no interest in seeing. Jagoff.
TheRationalNerd - 5/14/2014, 4:43 PM
If true, great news! Landis hates making all villains sympathetic. So maybe we'll be looking at a ruthless threat.
TheBuoyWonder - 5/14/2014, 4:46 PM
Spider-man will also appear.
Japanese Spider-man of course.
spidey1994 - 5/14/2014, 4:48 PM
As a huge Power Rangers fan and that I dug Chronicle, I approve!
DaVinci31 - 5/14/2014, 4:51 PM

That would be healthy if and only when, this scene makes it's way onto the big screen in this new reboot:

Bekss - 5/14/2014, 4:51 PM
I hope Bay direct this movie, that way everyone will say it's bad but it will make a lot of money so he can keep doing more movies that will make even more money because everyone hates them
JordanKing - 5/14/2014, 4:53 PM
You guys make me sick, the only thing Michael Bay is perfect for is an early retirement, the stuttering hack!
DaVinci31 - 5/14/2014, 4:55 PM
Either way I hope to see redemption for this franchise

KallarkKent - 5/14/2014, 5:00 PM
That could be interesting.
AquaMexicanMan - 5/14/2014, 5:11 PM
If this is true, will would definitely be interesting
ElWoofWoof - 5/14/2014, 5:12 PM
Can everyone who likes Michael Bay stop breathing for a moment... or maybe infinite moments?

Some people should not be allowed opinions
DeusExSponge - 5/14/2014, 5:14 PM
James Cameron should direct it, he'll definitely do the CG justice and I'm sure he'll be able to get someone competent enough to make the choreography good.
sexfoodcomics - 5/14/2014, 5:16 PM
Did no one else see that this guy posted on twitter today that spiderman rights reverted back to marvel?
Objectivelybiased - 5/14/2014, 5:17 PM
I like this. The guy might be a douche but he is a fantastic writer and I cannot wait to see what he does with this. If they bring on Joe Cornish to direct I will be fully on board. But bringing in Landis alone makes me think they are taking this seriously
lawndart - 5/14/2014, 5:18 PM
No, didn't hear that and wouldn't believe it either.
What's twitter?
McNyagano - 5/14/2014, 5:18 PM
Sure why not? It could be very interesting indeed. Chronicle was great!
lawndart - 5/14/2014, 5:19 PM
And who gives a rats arse about Power Rangers anyway?
