Jack White To Score Disney's THE LONE RANGER; New Synopsis Revealed

The former White Stripes front-man will write the score for Gore Verbinski's take on the legendary Western hero. Funnily enough, he also has a new album in the works! Click for the press release..

Jack White fans will be pleased to hear that the musician will score Disney's The Lone Ranger. The following press release from Disney also seems to feature a new synopsis for the movie, and reveals that the story will unfold in flashback as recounted by Johnny Depp's Tonto..

The Walt Disney Studios announced today at CinemaCon that Jack White will write, produce and perform the score for Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ highly anticipated The Lone Ranger. White, who today released his first solo album “Blunderbuss” to critical acclaim, is a musician, singer, songwriter and producer who first achieved notoriety as the lead guitarist and vocalist of the rock band The White Stripes and then as a member of The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. The Lone Ranger will mark White’s first foray into feature film scoring. The Lone Ranger, directed by Gore Verbinski and featuring Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as John Reid, the Lone Ranger, is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption. The Lone Ranger is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and hits theaters May 31, 2013.

Apparently it was Verbinski and part-time musician Depp that pushed for White to get the gig. As is mentioned above, White has not scored a movie before buy has written tunes for a few, including "Another Way To Die" for Quantum Of Solace and a very nice rendition of "Wayfaring Stanger" for Cold Mountain.

Not really a huge Jack White fan. But he is a good artist. I can see this being a good thing for this movie.
Ghostfire - 4/24/2012, 6:28 PM
WTF! Really? Never liked him or his music at all.
RorMachine - 4/24/2012, 6:40 PM
Yeah I like quite a lot of his solo stuff, and The White Stripes. Besides it's only his musical skills not his vocals..and the man plays like 30 instruments or something.
CreshernThershPlern - 4/24/2012, 6:47 PM
As long as they don't let him near another James Bond film, I don't care.
thereverendjonnynemo - 4/24/2012, 6:50 PM
Oh you have to be kidding me... musical genious my fanny!

and "solo work"??? There were only two White Stripes and *she* only has a career because of her sex tape.

Seriously - read the bio on them and how she ended up 'in the band'.
RedeyeJedi - 4/24/2012, 6:51 PM
I freaking love the white stripes. And his new solo album is pretty damn good also. I'm curious to see how he handles a film score though.
RedeyeJedi - 4/24/2012, 6:52 PM
@thereverendjonnynemo- Dude, you're [frick]ing stupid.
thereverendjonnynemo - 4/24/2012, 6:54 PM

if having musical standards makes me stupid, but Jack White is all hype as far as I'm concerned... research before you criticize, mate.
TheStranger - 4/24/2012, 6:57 PM
because when I think western I think Jack White... lol
RedeyeJedi - 4/24/2012, 6:57 PM
It's not about the music. I was commenting on your made up reason as to why she was in the band. Her supposed sex tape came out after the white stripes.
imnotwearinghockeypants - 4/24/2012, 6:59 PM
Should be great.
thereverendjonnynemo - 4/24/2012, 7:02 PM

again, mate - she's only in the band because the story they were at a party when they met and she was apparently tapping on a kit. He apparently tells her she's a 'great drummer' (and her 'performances', amateurish they be) and he picked her up and they eventually married.

Musically speaking, to each their own, but this guy scoring a movie, especially this, is expecting a drab piece overblown by distorted guitars and whiny vocals.

His 007 song was good.
Kovacs - 4/24/2012, 7:15 PM
jack white= awesome
Alexandre - 4/24/2012, 7:27 PM
really cool [frick]ing love jack white

i play guitar because of him.

you know its going to sound really awesome
RolandD - 4/24/2012, 7:40 PM
Now I'm actually interested.

Oh, and haters gonna hate.

theeverendjonnynemo-Funny you should say "do your research." Of course the sex tape is real.

It just isn't really Meg White. It is someone who barely resembles her and some fool said it was her.

Again, do your reasearch.
RolandD - 4/24/2012, 7:44 PM
BTW-Love just about everything White has done. First picked up Get Behind Me Satan and I have to admit, the first listen I thought I had made a mistake. On a number of songs his voice was an acquired taste, but then again so was beer, wine, liquor and cofee.

Gotta get Blunderbuss now that it is out. Love the first single.
thereverendjonnynemo - 4/24/2012, 7:47 PM

I read the bio on the white stripes, and I wasn't referring to the tape, mate.

My criticism if Jack White is based on what I know and have read of him and his career. My opinion is that he's a pompous douche who has an over inflated opinion of himself and his ability. I happen to be a musician myself and a deep love of music, just not his.
RolandD - 4/24/2012, 8:08 PM

I respect your opinion if you don't like his music, but I have to say your posts are confusing.

You said that she only has a career because of her sex tape and then say you weren't referring to the tape.

I don't care what his opinion is about himself. I love his music. He also gives musicians who don't get a listen by modern record companies a chance on Third Man Records. Quirky, bizarre at times, but I like his music and his style.
thereverendjonnynemo - 4/24/2012, 8:27 PM
no, what i said was, her her recognition ignited because of the tape... by all accounts it is authentic, and yes - heavily disputed. I doubt many people paid attention to her because of her drumming ability.

And any musician worth his (or her) ability certainly would only be riding White's - excuse me - that isn't even his actual birth name, Gillis' coat tails.

The industry sure has changed over the years (I'm not saying I'm anyone important either) but if I were to try and make it in that industry as a respected musician, it certainly wouldn't be with someone like him.
patriautism - 4/24/2012, 8:33 PM
good news. I love TWS and his solo stuff. He reminds me of a modern Led Zeppelin
thereverendjonnynemo - 4/24/2012, 8:47 PM
now that's just dumb
peppy - 4/24/2012, 8:53 PM
This is great
SpaceRobot - 4/24/2012, 8:55 PM
Jack White is a genius ... Over 50 nominations, 15 awards won including 6 Grammys

He is kind of like a modern day Led Zeppelin, one of the best song writers and guitarists in the business...
RolandD - 4/24/2012, 10:13 PM
@thereverendjonnynemo-Sorry, can't let this one go.

"by all accounts it is authentic, and yes-heavily disputed." Bahaha.
And you didn't even intent to be funny, did you?
thereverendjonnynemo - 4/24/2012, 10:37 PM
Several sources claim authenticity (assuming I cared more than a passing mention here.)

...and Jack White is *no* Jimmy Page. To compare him to such a legend is blasphemy at best, mate. I saw the two of them together in a studio session and his erection for the better player is obvious. There are lesser known guitarists and writers that are head and shoulders over a self aggrandizing fool such as he.
TheDarkKnightWing - 4/24/2012, 11:11 PM
Whatever. Haters gonna hate. Jack White is fraking awesome.

jimoakley666 - 4/25/2012, 2:02 AM
Urgh. It'll be crap. He completely [frick]ed up the Bond tune. The dude is crap.
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/25/2012, 5:23 AM
Decent choice.

Not really followed his solo career but man i love myself some White Stripes.
dopemaster - 4/25/2012, 5:53 AM
This movie just got 10X better.
comicb00kguy - 4/25/2012, 6:36 AM
Does this mean the Lone Ranger and Tonto are going to be tripping over amps and drums whenever the music kicks in?

Can't think of the White Stripes without thinking of this:

HelaGood - 4/25/2012, 8:06 AM
i was hoping Bon Jovi would do the music...
Colorist - 4/25/2012, 11:32 AM
Does this mean that the Lone Ranger will have a rock score?!?!?!?!? God, NO! This movie is sounding worse and worse every day!
RolandD - 4/25/2012, 12:42 PM
White does music that is not traditional rock. Listen to his music from Cold Mountain. I think he will go for an authentic sound for the movie.
Kovacs - 4/25/2012, 12:58 PM
Didn't even want to see the movie until now
HelaGood - 4/25/2012, 1:49 PM
@Kovacs im with you...
