MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 Taps Will Staples To Write; Drops IRON MAN 3 Writer

The fifth installment in the Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible franchise has found its writer in Will Staples (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3). This news also confirms that Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3), who was initially believed to be penning the script, is no longer attached. Come check it out!

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that 2015's Mission: Impossible 5 has found its screenwriter in Will Staples. Staples is best known for his work on video games such as 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and 2013's Need for Speed: Rivals. Lately, he has been making the transition to film and is currently attached to several films in development including Warner Bros.' Blood & Treasure, which has the new Batman, Ben Affleck attached to star and direct, King of Heists with Jeremy Renner attached to star, and a Fox film titled Myth with Sam Worthington attached. Staples replaces Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce, who was initially attached to the film when it was announced.

Christopher McQuarrie is set to direct with superstar Tom Cruise set to return. Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are also likely to reprise their roles from the previous film(s). It has also been rumored that Jessica Chastain may be joining the cast as well.

Mission: Impossible 5 is expected to hit theaters December 25, 2015.

Mercwitham0uth - 5/9/2014, 11:22 PM
Only like the 3rd movie in this franchise. The 1st one was boring, 2nd was over the top and just stupid, 3rd was awesome, 4th was boring and overrated.
CraptainAmerica - 5/9/2014, 11:24 PM
What happened to The Vision set pics?
ALegendaryPanda - 5/9/2014, 11:24 PM
Ghost Protocol was awesome in my opinion and I'm actually kinda looking forward to this one. I just wish Brad Bird was directing again
PhilipG - 5/9/2014, 11:27 PM
After watching IM3 I think this could only help this film..
patrat18 - 5/9/2014, 11:32 PM
^Pretty much.
loki668 - 5/9/2014, 11:42 PM

Good For Him.
grif - 5/10/2014, 12:00 AM
he wrote some video games.... perfect choice.
case - 5/10/2014, 12:04 AM
I haven't seen the last couple of these but have heard they've been ok. Still no in any rush to see them or a new one.

I did however see Iron Man 3 last night again - pretty much from the Trevor scene onward. The movie rules. A few third act issues that most superhero flicks have but it's still awesome. Once Ultron comes out and Tony's back people will be more vocal about singing its praises.
ManDeth - 5/10/2014, 12:06 AM
Iron Man 3 had a writer? I bet he turned in one hell of a terrible script if he wrote that maniacal mess.
Sumitsjc - 5/10/2014, 12:21 AM
yeah good news indeed...
mgeoff88 - 5/10/2014, 12:28 AM
It's going to be very hard to top the last movie.

@mbembet I confirm your comment.

@grif I almost thought one of his writing credits was the Need for Speed movie... That would be so much worse.
ChrispyG - 5/10/2014, 12:40 AM
Hmm...I kind of hope this gets pushed to 2016. Less competition for Star Wars.
Azazel1 - 5/10/2014, 1:03 AM
The fired the IM3 writer ? Whatever for? Turning the Manadarin, ironman'a only arch villain, into a drug addicted, unemployed actor was genius!!!

SaxoWolf - 5/10/2014, 1:21 AM
I hope they can inject some of the magic of the first movie into the next one.
loki668 - 5/10/2014, 2:28 AM
It's clear, to me, that M Night Shyamalan has permanently traumatized some of you.

Nubase - 5/10/2014, 2:54 AM
iron man 3 was the biggest joke and failure ever!, iron man 2 was better and that was a failure!, both movies disrepected iron man 1 big time and iron man 1 for me is still the best marvel studio movie
ODSTmaster - 5/10/2014, 3:17 AM
I have never seen any of The Mission Impossible films because Tom Cruise is to short to do that shit he's like 4ft 8
gambgel - 5/10/2014, 3:18 AM
More Mission Impossible movies, more Bourne movies, more Bond movies, more Avatar movies, more Star Wars movies... wow, franchise fans should be quite happy!
mattattack - 5/10/2014, 3:19 AM
Thank god. Iron Man 3 is the W O R S T
LEEE777 - 5/10/2014, 4:07 AM
Ain't seen MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 yet, though I do own it lol, maybe should watch it!

datNAMEtho - 5/10/2014, 4:41 AM
Iron Man 3 is terrible! Glad they got rid of the writer!

I like the last two Mission Impossible films. Hope they'll continue using IMAX camera's!
Alienman - 5/10/2014, 4:53 AM
You made the right choice. I wish I could erase IM3 from my memory eternally. That movie should have been called Iron Pussy.
MercwithMouth - 5/10/2014, 5:10 AM
Yeah, because this article has CBM written all over it... Here's a writer from the most critically acclaimed CBM since Dark Knight, let's shit on him because he's not attached to a terrible project anymore. Mission: Impossible has been utter crap for years. The first one is incredible, and after that, they suck, hard.
ckal - 5/10/2014, 5:34 AM
guy who wrote video games

McNyagano - 5/10/2014, 5:38 AM
They're replacing Drew Pearce with a guy who wrote video games? Ok...
CaptShipwreck - 5/10/2014, 5:42 AM
You important socialites with your fancy opinions ... You guys ever do anything important besides hate on a film that was seen a bunch of times by the regular movie going public? Or you just like to remind everyone how insecure you are and trash ironman 3.. You trashers got the power of a gnat attacking a whale's dick
MightyZeus - 5/10/2014, 5:53 AM
Glad Mission Impossible 5 dropped Drew Pearce.

I'm uncertain however on the new writer, he wrote Mordern Warfare 3 which don't get me wrong it was an enjoyable game to play through it's just there could be a risk due to the fact that the writer's major focus is writing plots for video games.

I really loved Mission Impossible 3 and i loved Mission Impossible 4 even more so i'm looking forward to Mission Impossible 5.
sameoldthing - 5/10/2014, 5:53 AM
IM3 was a poorly written movie so it's wise to get another writer.
MI films are good action movies. Think what ya want but Cruise can act & sell the action.

Some asswipe commented that Cruise isn't believable in the MI films...yea right, the guy does more of his stunts than anyone other than Jackie Chan.
ManThing - 5/10/2014, 6:06 AM
lol After IM3 I'd drop that guy like a bad habit.

He should be banned form writing anything..
BlackHulk - 5/10/2014, 6:19 AM
Prob the best thing that could have happened to MI5. IM3 had some of the best special effects and action scenes that I've ever seen, but the writing was 100% booty juice to anyone with an IQ over 60.
Pedrito - 5/10/2014, 6:22 AM
Is that the best you people can do in trashing IM3?
You guys used to be much harsher. You're losing your edge.

What, you're afraid you'll sound like idiots? That never stopped you before.
Come on, you can do dumber than this.
OnePunchBaldy - 5/10/2014, 8:24 AM
Is Brad Bird directing?
OnePunchBaldy - 5/10/2014, 8:25 AM
And who gives a [frick] what critics say?

Superman Returns has a 75% on RT. Critics don't mean shit.
