PACIFIC RIM Screenwriter Talks Teaser Trailer And GOD OF WAR Film Adaptation

Screenwriter Marcus Dunstan gives an update on the planned God Of War movie adaptation, which he's writing with Patrick Melton. He also teases what fans should expect from the trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Pacific Rim screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton discuss their upcoming film projects, including the planned movie adaptation of the God Of War video game franchise. The duo previously stated that the film will be an origin story for protagonist Kratos, similar to Batman Begins, and will be a more "grounded" take on the character. Here, Dunstan gives an update on the adaptation, which he says has been "so fun" working on. "It’s bad ass. It’s been so fun. Working with that team, they have been just so supportive. They want to get this movie to the screen, so we have been doing our part and we’re very much in the trenches right now delivering page after page after page to make that a reality." When asked how God Of War will compare to other recent "swords and sandals" films such as Immortals and Wrath Of The Titans, Dunstan said that the video game adaptation was "being made to be vastly different".

Additionally, Dunstan comments on the trailer for Guillermo del Toro's highly anticipated sci-fi epic Pacific Rim. "We were given a teaser the first day we showed up on set. One set, which is as big as a football stadium, had a robot foot. Then Mr. Del Toro showed us 10 seconds of a fight between the entities of the future and the creatures of his imagination and it’s like, “Okay, the summer is now owned.’" The trailer for the film will be released next month, likely attached to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters. I have a hard time believing that a god of war film will be any good, just because it can only be good if its on a big scale, like bigger than clash of the titans and more blood,so it would have to be rated 18/R,and what studio is going to throw loads of money at a rated 18 game to movie that needs a big scale, specially with clash and wrath being so shit
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 11/19/2012, 8:15 AM

GUNSMITH you just showed you cant read his vastly different comment was in response to question of how it compares to past sword and sandal movies like COTT and immortals

no the source material dumbass

@GUNSMITH Take a chill pill.

" When asked how God Of War will compare to other recent "swords and sandals" films such as Immortals and Wrath Of The Titans,Dunstan said that the video game adaptation was "being made to be vastly different"."

Its doesn't say any where vastly different from the video game.

Slow down and read next time.

I think you mean that the PRim trailer is attached to hobbit, but for a second I read that as a Jaeger showing up IN the movie which made no sense....but seemed awesome! ah, well dare to dream......and yes I agree, that is one of the best trailer line-ups I've ever seen.

These guys make me worry for pacific rim, because they wrote the saw movies from 4 onwards I think, and let's be honest the saw series sucks. But del toro at the helm gives me hope.

I agree with yoss, how can you ground a god of war movie? It just goes to show Hollywood is run by simpletons.

Well...looks like another one of my favorite video game franchises is going to get raped...its going to be prince of persia all over again.
DCjohnny - 11/19/2012, 9:13 AM
wow.... its would be interesting to see kratos is live action ripping, beating , stabbing etc with is bare hands ... this movie has to be rated R..... but there one other thing which is- video games movie usually suck... eg- doom, prince of persia, tomb raider, hitman etc..... glad they didnt do uncharted....
ClarkFarley2012 - 11/19/2012, 9:22 AM
Who the heck can play Kratos?? They better not mess this up. GOW is my favorite PS3 game of all-time.
ClarkFarley2012 - 11/19/2012, 9:23 AM
@ dcjohnny.. prince of persia was a good movie. Just my opinion though.
TerminatorMode - 11/19/2012, 9:27 AM
@gunsmith - yeah all they're saying is that they're aiming to make it better than those movies. immortals was decent but compared to wrath of the titans it was a masterpiece.
jimpinto24 - 11/19/2012, 9:31 AM
There are a lot of movies I'm looking forward to in 2013 & Pacific Rim is one of them. And I'm also excited about the God of War movie too.
AztecRainGod - 11/19/2012, 10:04 AM
I wish the guys at Pacific Rim would STFU and give us something tangible already.
Optimus83 - 11/19/2012, 10:17 AM
I want blood, gore and naked women in the movie adaptation of God of War. ...equal to videogame
PaulRom - 11/19/2012, 10:45 AM
Yeah, when he said "vastly different", he meant vastly different from other fantasy films like Clash/Wrath Of The Titans and Immortals. Wasn't saying it would be vastly different from the game.
AlexDeLarge87 - 11/19/2012, 11:24 AM
SageMode@ That... was... awesome!:P

I think the best way to make God of War movie and give it justice would be motion Capture. Kinda like how they did that Beowulf film.
With right budge they could make it look even better than Beowulf.
gmckoy - 11/19/2012, 11:44 AM

thanks bro for the correction, got a little excited about that trailer line-up lol

dont quote me on this one but i believe the trailer for robocop may be in there as well :)
DCjohnny - 11/19/2012, 11:47 AM
i agree with u ... i am a huge prince of Persia game ,but the movie lacked the dark story of the game, the sand monsters, etc ... even though the movie is the best video game movie for me yet .. still it sucked...

@Gunsmith - They said GoW would be vastly different from Wrath of the Titans and Immortals, not the source material. They just said more grounded. Meaning Kratos won't be leaping 70 feet in the air and such. But they can't take the mythology out of it. Personally Wrath was a good take on the mythology, and the visuals were almost straight from a GoW game. They should definitely keep that kind of flair.
Dedpool - 11/19/2012, 12:44 PM
Gerard Butler for Kratos!!!
gost - 11/19/2012, 1:26 PM
Damn why do film people feel they have to ground movies. I don't want a movie like this to be set in reality. And yes it needs to be R rated. I wish the film people would learn that you don't have to follow the source material to the dot but they need to stay true to the material, much like they have done over at Marvel.
DioFoRio - 11/19/2012, 1:42 PM
@Yoss...easy...You make his country suffer an economic collapse. Instead of hunting gods he just sells all the antiquities to the highest bidders.
Hitboyj - 11/20/2012, 12:15 AM
Okay firstly wow! And now 2013 is The Year of movies if your a CBm, sci-fi, adventure, action, fiction, Thriller and more hectic cool, fighting scenes fan. Let 2012 not be the end of the world yet
