It's time to board the Black Pearl once again! Walt Disney Studios has announced the release date for Jack Sparrow's next adventure. The much anticipated fifth film in the billion dollar Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will set sail in approximately three years. Come check it out!

A few days after they announced the release dates for five upcoming Marvel movies, Walt Disney Studios has announced the release date for the next installment in another billion dollar franchise, the Johnny Depp-led Pirates of the Caribbean 5. The fifth film in the hugely successful franchise will be released July 7, 2017.

Last May, it was announced that Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg would direct the film and last August, the film's full title was revealed to be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and star Johnny Depp, who plays Jack Sparrow, are both set to return. Initially, Bruckheimer had hoped the film would be able to make it to summer 2016, but due to script issues and contract negotiations, it looks like 2017 was their best option.

Its release will be sandwiched between Despicable Me 3 (June 30) and Fantastic Four 2 (July 14).
It joins a year that will also see Wolverine 3 (March 3), The Lego Movie 2 (May 26), and three yet-to-be announced Marvel films (May 5, July 28, November 3) hit theaters.

Are you guys excited to set sail with Jack Sparrow & the Black Pearl once again? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Cool. I loved the first, second and third were entertaining but convoluted cluster-[frick]s (Performances such as Bill Nighy stand out, however), the fourth was trash. Interested to see where they take this.

Pirates #1 is one of those rare, carefree and fun movies that's great to watch.
Pirates #2 got too serious but was good.
Pirates #3 was unbearable to watch.
Pirates #4 I don't know because I can't watch more than the 1st 30 minutes.
ManofSteel23 - 7/23/2014, 8:54 AM
I hated the third, didnt mind the 4th, the first two are brilliant I'd watch another one
Clara - 7/23/2014, 8:58 AM
I loved the first 3 ones (even the third. It's not so great as the first two, but I like it). The fourth was bad. But ok, I would like to see another.

I'm so excited!!!! One of my favorite franchises of all time!!! I hope Pirates 6 is shot back to back. I guarantee you this movie makes more money than that shitty Fantastic Four movie

I drew a picture of Cipher.
He's a butt pirate.

@RobertLiefeld I wish I could agree with you, but the last pirates film made over a billion dollars worldwide.. sigh.
AlphaMasterFlex - 7/23/2014, 9:02 AM
I enjoyed the trilogy but wanted them to stop there. I hated 4 but hopefully they redeem themselves? Also you have those rumored DC movies coming in 2017 but I guess they aren't official yet.
Inhuman - 7/23/2014, 9:02 AM
I hope we see a bad ass Captain Hook

just like we wished for Transformers: Age of Bankruptcy to not make it big...
RobertLiefeld - 7/23/2014, 9:09 AM
@BigMikeReviews That is what I mean, Disney loves money too much to ever let Pirates die off. They are going to continue to run this franchise into the ground.

Hahahahaha. I did a Miley:

Fun fact: this started off as a drawing of Mr. Buzzcut from Beavis And Butt-head, but I decided to make it a Miley 'cause I figured the resemblance was already there.
Gusto - 7/23/2014, 9:16 AM
That's not funny, you son of a bitch!!!!!!!!!!

These movies have not been good since the first one, and they just keep getting worse and worse
MercwithMouth - 7/23/2014, 9:24 AM
Loved the original trilogy. Fantastic, entertaining movies. 4th one sucked... Penelope Cruz was terrible, and Black Beard was boring as hell.

Gimme something good, and I'll be thrilled.

Why do they even bother anymore? The first two were the only ones worth watching.
marvel72 - 7/23/2014, 9:53 AM
i thought 2016 until i read the article.
Dandy - 7/23/2014, 10:16 AM
I actually had fun with all of them, as stupid as some of the later ones were.

I'd see another! Bring it on!
