Looks better than the first trailer. I'm optimistic now.

In other news... Taylor's dating another guy? Who in the world is this one?
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 12/10/2012, 10:28 AM
Should have called it "Tonto and his white man friend in a mask".... Even this site has an image of Tonto over the Lone Ranger for the header.

The Lone Ranger looks pretty good.
write33 - 12/10/2012, 10:39 AM
wow, well that does look alot better...I wish Armie looked more traditional (e.g. clean shaven and dressed like a cowboy and not a gambler) but eh, maybe those are quibbles and it will work..........even with Tonto wearing a bird. on his head.
Darthkostis - 12/10/2012, 10:51 AM
A lot better than the first trailer. We'll see how this turns out.
AlexDeLarge87 - 12/10/2012, 11:20 AM
Well... i give it a chance when it comes but the bird still annoys me.

WTF? How can the Taylor Swift bit be more interesting than the Lone Ranger bit? o_O

As for the trailer, it clearly looks like Jonny is playing a red indian, he doesn't look genuine at all. I think it is because he is soo popular you can't get past the actor and see the character they are playing. Just like Jim Carrey in Batman Forever playing The Riddler.

Man that Taylor Swift has really turned into one big whore. That thing of hers really is accumulating the mileage

Johnny Depp lost me years ago. He seems like the same character in every movie, just with different clothes. Here, he's pretending to be Johnny Depp pretending to be an Indian. I miss the days of Donnie Brasco, Gilbert Grape and Blow when he, at least, attempted to lose himself in a role and become the character. Other than that it's been:

Depp as a quirky guy with scissors for hands.
Depp as a quirky over the top film director.
Depp as a quirky drug abusing journalist.
Depp as a quirky astronaut who may or may not be an alien.
Depp as a quirky investigator who may or may not be a pedophile.
Depp as a quirky investigator who falls for a super hot prostitute.
Depp as a quirky pirate anti-hero.
Depp as a quirky candy maker who tortures children.
Depp as a quirky pirate anti-hero, again and again and again.
Depp as a quirky singing cannibal barber.
Depp as a quirky mobster.
Depp as a quirky lover of tea and hats.
Depp as a quirky tourist who may or may not be a super spy.
Depp as a quirky lizard.
Depp as a quirky alcohol abusing journalist.
Depp as a quirky vampire.

He certainly is no chameleon when it comes to his acting.

I feel for Armie Hammer. Good actor who I think can carry a movie of virtually any genre. He just needs that breakout role to put his career in full speed mode. Unfortunately, for Lone Ranger, I think most people will be distracted by Depp's horrible accent and stupid bird hat the entire movie. Maybe next time, Armie.

Still, I'm sure it will be a huge hit. You could cast Depp along side a slew of rocks with faces painted on them and people would go see the movie.

There was nothing "quirky" about Benjamin Barker. He was stoic and grim.

Which is how he should have played Barnabas.

Disney movies always look great but end up being okay at best.
Tron, John Carter, Prince of Persia, Alice in Wonderland.

Jesus, that was horrible.

Sorry, I won't be spending money on this abomination....

Oh good, Taylor Swift has a new boyfriend. I'll look forward to the next post-breakup "I hate my ex" song, then...

Also, Lone Ranger looks...disconcertingly bad.

I don't completely disagree with your rebuttal. Yes, Benjamin Barker's character was stoic and grim. Was he like completely off the wall like Willy Wonka? Of course not. But I still felt Depp played on the eccentric, offbeat elements of the character instead of making him the truly frightening anti-hero he could have been. I still felt like I was watching Johnny Depp.

And as for Barnabas... yes, again. You are right. The script called for a fish out of water character. The entire film was based on that premise, disregarding the seriousness, all-be-it campy soap opera element, of the original series. So, Depp certainly played to his strengths on that film.

Is he a bad actor? Of course not. He's proven he can be a very dramatic character actor. His performances in Donnie Brasco and Blow are terrific. And his early work in independents like Benny & Joon, Gilbert Grape and Dead Man are what proved he could carry a film.

But as to Lone Ranger? Putting a bird hat and some war paint on him, then having him do a crappy accent while speaking broken English doesn't make me believe he's an American Indian, despite his real-life ancestry. It still seems like I'm watching Johnny Depp in costume.

Time will tell, but I suspect this film would have benefited from a smaller budget and a lesser known star playing Tonto.

Depp needs to chill for real. They could have found a proper Native American actor to play that role.
