I can see Tom Hardy as Mad Max. For a little while there I thought they were looking at Sam Worthington as Mad Max. But I think Hardy would be better suited for this role. As much as Mel Gibson is hated these days as a result of him going ape-shit crazy in real life I still like him as an actor and always will. I'd love to see him carry on the role as a much older Mad Max.

@TokenNerd

it wouldnt make sense for this to be a sequel. reboot/prequel makes so much more sense.
what are you going to say? hardy playing the exact say max and gibson did? make references to the first 3 films? keep the exact same tone?

i know its the original director returning but the only way a sequel wouldnt seem odd would be is gibson was back. unless you are talking some kind of bourne legacy idea where hardy isnt even max

I hoped that if they were doing a reboot they'd go back to the first film. I always found that more interesting than the sequels. In the follow ups, the shit had hit the fan already. It was (to use the oxymoron) post apocalyptic. I was more interested in what that actual apocalypse was. Everything and everyone going to hell in a hand basket and these cops clinging on to society. Clinging on to law and order. Trying against the tide to keep the peace. That, to me, was more intriguing and equally terrifying. It wasn't like Judge Dredd, where that is just how the world is and these guys do their job. In the first Max, the cops knew it was all slowly unraveling and coming to an end, which in turn was driving them, well, mad.

Also, wonder if Hardy will be putting on an Aussie accent. It'd be a cool twist if we find out towards the end of the movie that he isn't actually Max, he just uses the name for reputation, and in the last act Mel Gibson turns up, all old and grizzled. That would be an interesting Max to watch. Kinda like 'Old Man Logan'.

@jimoakley666

they would have to get every member of the cast (who isnt playing a foreigner) to be great at australian accents aswell.

All's looking pretty sweet on the reboot front but from what I've seen they've had to cut back on the budget.

wedontdie - 7/6/2012, 11:44 AM
it looks okay, but I'm kind of getting tired of the convey idea for the climax. I mean there was a trailer in the second film at the climax and then there was a train in the third film which almost seems the same... I think they should add ghost towns or something else.
DukeAcureds - 7/6/2012, 12:14 PM
Does anyone else remember when the plan was to bring Mel Gibson back for Mad Max 4 with Heath Ledger as his son?
DukeAcureds - 7/6/2012, 12:18 PM
The only reason I saw The Patriot was to check out Ledger and see if he'd be a good replacement for Mel Gibson, because of all the buzz around at that time.
