No Hydra Or S.H.I.E.L.D. In Season One Of AGENT CARTER; Will Feature One Major Marvel Villain

No Hydra Or S.H.I.E.L.D. In Season One Of AGENT CARTER; Will Feature One Major Marvel Villain

Many of us expected that Agent Carter would focus on the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it will instead take place before the events of her One-Shot! We also get some hints about Edwin Jarvis' role in the series (sounds like he'll be a lot more than just a butler), and much more!

In the following video interview with IGN TV, star Hayely Atwell and the team behind the upcoming Agent Carter series talk about the setting of the first season, confirming earlier reports that it will indeed take place before the events of the One-Shot which was included on the Iron Man 3 DVD and Blu-ray. That's a little disappointing to hear as most fans were hoping that we would see the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it instead sounds like this will be building up to that point (which seems like an odd direction to take). With any luck, a second season will address that part of Peggy's life. Interestingly, the series is described as being like Fargo or True Detective in the respect that it will be like an eight hour movie. We then learn more about Edwin Jarvis' role in the series, and it sounds as if we should expect to see him heading into action alongside Peggy and Howard! Oh, and a brief Captain America 3 update reveals that it starts shooting next April...

If the writers for this show were smart they'd have Winter Soldier make an appearance in a 2 episode story-arc where Howard Stark and his wife are assassinated. That would be beyond awesome.
DrDoom - 7/31/2014, 6:06 PM

In Arnim Zola's archive reel in Winter Soldier, a newspaper is shown that specifically indicates that Howard and Maria Stark are killed by the Winter Soldier in 1991, so that would be impossible to have happen on this show.
Abary - 7/31/2014, 6:06 PM
I hate to say this, but a lot of my hype just dropped for this show. Part of the reason I was looking so forward to this was because I thought it would be an amazing way to show to origins of SHIELD and how Hydra began to infiltrate them. I thought having Sebastian Stan come on the show near the end showing the origins of the Winter Soldier and having Arnim Zola and other major Hydra villains would be truly amazing to show, and that was why I thought people should give the show a chance. Now, I'm not really interested in what they're doing with it anymore.
Abary - 7/31/2014, 6:07 PM
Having it take place before the One-Shot when she learns about SHIELD is a wasted opportunity.
DrDoom - 7/31/2014, 6:08 PM
But why would it happen before the One-Shot? She was supposedly only at a desk job in the year between First Avenger and the One-Shot. I'm sure Marvel has a plan, but I am curious as to why this is a prequel.

Pasto - 7/31/2014, 6:08 PM
Dang really? That sucks. Would've been an awesome thing to see happen on the show.
NovaCorpsFan - 7/31/2014, 6:08 PM
They'll be fighting Zodiac instead. Maybe we'll even see Jacob Fury, AKA Scorpio.
Pasto - 7/31/2014, 6:09 PM
But in all honesty, Winter Soldier COULD make an appearance somehow. Possibly have it set-up where he kills a high S.H.I.E.L.D official and Peggy has to investigate.
PymParticle - 7/31/2014, 6:10 PM
What the actual [frick]. Is this idiot Louis in charge?
PymParticle - 7/31/2014, 6:13 PM
I was so excited for this but now it just sounds like this will be the same watered down strung out shit that AOS is.
Doopie - 7/31/2014, 6:13 PM
This'll be a nice little forerunner to a fully fledged Marvel movie with a female lead. Who will the bad guy be though?
DrKinsolving - 7/31/2014, 6:13 PM
Sounds interesting, so since Jarvis has a role in this, Howard Stark will definitely be in this too?

That could be really cool, I liked Dominic Cooper in First Avenger

Just finished GOTG.

Favorite CBM this year.

i will still give this show a chance because i really like the character of Peggy Carter and i like the period setting..this could be interesting .the showrunners are the writers of the Cap films and and the other two showrunners are Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas..four showrunners.. D'ESpito is directing the pilot, The Russos are doing ep 2 and 3 and Joe Johnston will most likely do Ep 4

The one shot shows Peggy Carter just getting started at an office job and getting fed up and finally taking matters into her own hands.

How does it make any sense at all for this to take place beforehand.

And if they [frick]ing waste Zemo or some other big villain on this show i'm going nuts.
KurtWagner1225 - 7/31/2014, 6:22 PM
i do like its only 8 episodes..well atleast the first season..will make it streamlined and no filler episodes
Pasto - 7/31/2014, 6:25 PM
Way-way-wait, Agent Carter takes place BEFORE the one-shot?

MexicanSuperman - 7/31/2014, 6:28 PM
I hope the Howling Commandos show up. I hope Marvel makes James Montgomery Falsworth into Union Jack in the show.

SuperCat - 7/31/2014, 6:28 PM

MrCBM56 - 7/31/2014, 6:29 PM

KurtWagner1225 - 7/31/2014, 6:30 PM
i havent seen the one shot in a little while but wasnt it like she was already working for the SSR but also doing her own missions at the same time so maybe this her just starting with it and doing her own missions
KurtWagner1225 - 7/31/2014, 6:34 PM
Superhero96-no the war was done.. we see it in the montage at the end of TFA

also they dont insuniate its Zemo...they just say a Major Marvel Villain will appear
eleven59 - 7/31/2014, 6:35 PM
Hail Tig!!
Pasto - 7/31/2014, 6:36 PM
In the one-shot she was working in a misogynistic environment and kept getting shoved into desk duty. She finally said "[frick] it" and decided to do an actual mission for a change. This show (if true) is basically turning that whole event over on it's head.
KurtWagner1225 - 7/31/2014, 6:39 PM
i think maybe if this gets a second season,i think second season will be the beginning of Shield cause they said Shield will be soon
KurtWagner1225 - 7/31/2014, 6:41 PM
Pasto-ok..i need to see that again to refresh my memory

Superhero96-yeah and she is also a really good actress which is a bonus
InfiniteMonkey - 7/31/2014, 6:41 PM

Reminds me of how AoS was a great idea horribly executed
Inhuman - 7/31/2014, 6:48 PM
Baron Zemo should be the villain in Cap 3.... nuff said
KurtWagner1225 - 7/31/2014, 6:51 PM
i really wanna see how they do the period setting..i love period pieces and superhero stuff or comic book stuff in period pieces always intrigues me
IronMountaineer - 7/31/2014, 6:51 PM
If it is before the formation of shield, that might be smart...

If future movies need to go back and reveal some other big revelation about the past, this doesn't risk blocking that with some other story...

And Zemo is a bit ridiculous, so he may be a better "TV villain"...

Soooo...calm down people...

I shall watch..

homodrome - 7/31/2014, 6:53 PM
I really want Red Skull to come back in Cap 3. I was just rewatching The Avengers and noticed how Loki is being manipulated very much in the way it seems Ronan will be manipulated in Guardians. He gives them both missions that are more or less 'get an infinity stone and destroy/conquer a plant which will likely oppose Thanos's attempt to rule the Universe. So Cap 3 could have Red Skull sent by Thanos, with a mission to destroy the Avengers starting with their leader.
Chewtoy - 7/31/2014, 6:56 PM
The one-shot ended with her basically being called to be the director or co-director of SHIELD... It's not the most exciting point to focus on, as what follows should be mostly administrative stuff. Far more interesting to expand the story of the one-shot, and see her journey to that point. I know fanboys just want a heaping dose of comics continuity and little else though.
DeusExSponge - 7/31/2014, 6:58 PM
Man and I was hoping it would be a follow up of the one-shot.
IronMountaineer - 7/31/2014, 6:59 PM
@Chewtoy My thoughts exactly man
