ABC's Paul Lee Talks AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Ratings, Lady Sif And More

ABC's entertainment president Paul Lee discusses all things Marvel's Agents of Shield, such as ratings, the inclusion of Sif and the identity of the Clairvoyant. Hit the Jump to read more!

During the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour ABC’s entertainment president Paul Lee took a moment to discuss all thing Agents Of Shield. He had this to say.

“It was obviously disappointing that we started with a very high number and it came down,” he said. “It took a little bit of time to find our sea legs, but now the show is really doing well. Creatively, we are loving what we’re seeing for the back nine. We’re doing a lot of work, and I’m really enjoying doing this with Marvel. We can announce that Lady Sif is coming in, in Episode 15. We’re shooting it now, and that’s going to be absolutely integral to that hour of television. And then, there’s going to be this really cool arc to the end of the season. You’re going to find out who the Clairvoyant is, and it’s going to be very, very cool.”

Lee went on to discuss the troubles the first half of the season had. “It did take us a little bit of time to find our sea legs,” Lee said. “I think the key to us was really starting to work closely with the studios, and really figure out with our showrunners and all the creative brains, how we could have a show that didn’t have Iron Man in it, but did have an incredible amount of the Marvel universe and an incredible amount of the mythology that went through there. We also took a little bit of time to get the balance between a procedural and an arc. I’m so proud of how they’ve now arced out the last nine episodes. But, that’s something that many shows do, as they go through that.”

this as been posted already but has been taken down for some reason.
Abary - 1/20/2014, 3:48 PM
Sif will be on this show? Neat
Lozzy - 1/20/2014, 3:50 PM

Yes I realised that, that's why I am putting it back up.
Curmudgeon - 1/20/2014, 3:51 PM
It was taken down because it was already posted several days ago.
Abary - 1/20/2014, 3:57 PM
Curmudgeon But... it wasn't posted.

You post an article because the same article got deleted because there is already an article like that which doesn't even exist... MY MIND IS CONFUSED
DrDoom - 1/20/2014, 4:01 PM
Keep this article up

The choice is yours
marvel72 - 1/20/2014, 4:06 PM
i'm glad we're gonna get to see more of the lovely jamie alexander.
frova - 1/20/2014, 4:07 PM
Clairvoyant - Scarlet Witch? This would work cause the twins are confirmed to be against the Avengers in A2 before they join the team.

I would also be satisfied if Tim Blake Nelson/Samuel Sterns is the clairvoyant, he was set up really well in TIH and hasn't been used since.

I also want to see Sam Rockwell/Justin Hammer make an appearance... Sam Rockwell was the best part of Iron Man 2 and there's a lot of potential there.

@ nailbiter111

oh i didn't realize that was the reason.
yonny616 - 1/20/2014, 4:09 PM
I watching this episode, just for Sif. I was disappointed when I heard a lot of her screen time was cut in favor of Kat Dennings and Selvic jokes. I was so disappointed I didn't bother going to Thor 2, I'm just waiting for the blu-ray.
DrDoom - 1/20/2014, 4:10 PM

Oh shit, really? Did the article not have a source, or something? What happened?
Abary - 1/20/2014, 4:12 PM
Why would she be on Earth though? Or is it a flashback or something?
Super12 - 1/20/2014, 4:13 PM
Hope it gets better. I have 3-4 still on the DVR, they've just been so mediocre I haven't gotten back to them. I bet it'll pick up though, I hope it doesn't get cancelled soon.
batz11 - 1/20/2014, 4:13 PM
Love Lady Sif, but I want another biggie to make an appearance, and not just a cameo like SamJack...but a 3-5 episode arc with Loki or Banner (Hulk would be awesome) but probably too expensive. But if they did spend the big bucks for sfx, The Abomination would be my choice, following up from The Consultant one-shot on SHIELD would be awesome!

There were articles about the inclusion of Sif, and them revealing the Clairvoyant, when the news came out on Friday.

But neither posted the actual comments from Paul Lee, who first announced both things.

Since you've got more info in your article, I *think* you should be good.

People really need to Stfu about Wanting Iron man or any other avenger to appear... They already said that this show would not be focusing on the big ones (Heroes) before the show even began to air.. It's called Agents of Shield.. AGENTS of Sheild. Looking at what's going on behind closed doors, you know.. Being an actual AGENT.. Not fighting super villains as you guys claim u want in the show.. Leave that shit to the ACTUAL superheroes. So hop off this show that you apparently don't like so the rest of the vewiers can get on with the party ;)

Here's the rest of the interview:

"Ok fine. Look....we know the show is shit. It's not like we live on another planet. We cringe and roll our eyes in all the same places as anyone who watches. So it's not that we're unaware of the overall lack of quality, it's our total and complete ineptitude. No, seriously. We walk around the editing suite saying "What's this button do?". That's like, every day. So we were sitting around picking our noses a couple of weeks ago when someone, I think it was Joss' brother, said "We're going to be out of a job soon you know." That's when it dawned on us that we'd better do some sort of job security thing. So we said "Ok, who from the Marvel Universe can we actually afford to bring on the show? We thought about the lowliest, most ridiculous characters we could so it wouldn't cost much. That's when we came up with Sif. She's perfect! She's like totally in more than 1 movie, but nobody really gives a [frick], so she's cheap! That'll show those Marvel fanboys that we're trying. It should buy us a couple more weeks of goodwill from the hardcore fans anyway. I mean eventually they're all gonna realize we're a sham, sure. But let's stretch that IMDB page as much as possible before it all comes crashing down on us.
KnobGoblin - 1/20/2014, 4:28 PM
You can bring in whomever you want, it wont help. The problem with the show is that it's just so generic and dull. The tone is flat, the characters uninteresting, and the action is boring. It's just lame at it's core. To geeky for the mainstream, and to watered down to appeal to a mass audience for the geek crowd.
Spideyinthemcu - 1/20/2014, 4:31 PM
This show was over hyped. Still waiting for a live action spider man show in the mcu.
batz11 - 1/20/2014, 4:31 PM
Well I like the show, watch every week, but Marvel has about a million characters already, just don't think they need to keep making up new ones just for the show...SHIELD is the agency that keeps track of the super-powered beings, whole premise of the show, so they shouldn't show any super-heros or super-villains? That doesn't make much sense, this show IS part of the MCU, another reason to have 'them' show up every now and then, in my humble opinion; )
AF613 - 1/20/2014, 4:38 PM
anyone else think they may use Skye as a replacement for Thane...?

the way they made her out to be seems similar as to how they moved Thane around in the inhuman world during INFINITY
KnobGoblin - 1/20/2014, 4:39 PM
Some people can say what they want about ARROW, but that's at least a show that understands it's audience, and delivers with some exciting/gritty action and likable/interesting characters.
LoudLon - 1/20/2014, 4:39 PM
The cool thing about shooting 22 episodes a season is that most episodes air only a couple months after being filmed, so when you have show like this which starts off weak, the creators get enough feedback early on that they can shift things and make improvements for episodes yet to be filmed. And they've obviously taken the criticism to heart if the last couple episodes are any indication, because they're marked improvements over the first half of the season.
MercwithMouth - 1/20/2014, 4:40 PM
Almost a waste to comment, as most of us fans already talked in length on the original article. Thanks for the repost though!
MercwithMouth - 1/20/2014, 4:42 PM
But anyways...

Damn good show! Blizzard is gonna be a beast, and I can't wait to see what kind of powers Skye has. Although her being an Inhuman makes sense, since she had powers as a baby.
3DWitchHunt - 1/20/2014, 4:50 PM
What a shitty disappointment of a show.
JustDame - 1/20/2014, 5:01 PM
The clairvoyant night be the leader
KrazyForKomix - 1/20/2014, 5:02 PM
Show had a rocky (read that "dull") start. But the last few episodes have been better, capped off by a VERY good "Seeds" episode. It's headed in the right direction as the writers find their footing.
cipher - 1/20/2014, 5:08 PM
I hear ya, yoss. I mean, what the f*ck? I've been putting in some work, goddammit. Nobody appreciates anything.

Fishnets. Whip. Fuzzy cuffs. F*ck me boots.

THAT is a Level 9 Dizney Dominatrix at the very least.

AlexanderLykins - 1/20/2014, 5:11 PM
This show doesn't really do it for me.
Chewtoy - 1/20/2014, 5:19 PM
The show is taking off more and more... Looking forward to the second half of the season.
AimForTheFlatTop - 1/20/2014, 5:19 PM
Lady Sif is Skye's mother.
JorL5150 - 1/20/2014, 5:25 PM
Necaxa1011 - 1/20/2014, 5:25 PM
Loki is the clairvoyant
GliderMan - 1/20/2014, 5:26 PM
but did have an incredible amount of the Marvel universe
Shut the [frick] up, Lee.

If Sif is Skye's mother, I will praise the show til the heavens collapse and quit hoping it'll be cancelled.
GliderMan - 1/20/2014, 5:27 PM
I think it'd be cool if Loki turned out to be the clairvoyant, but he's not. Why would he want to be, when he's the [frick]ing king of Asgard? He's got all he ever wanted.

But damn, Marvel needs to put Loki in everything <3
