Amy Acker Cast As 'The Cellist' In Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Actress Amy Acker has been cast as Audrey, aka the cellist Coulson was dating prior to his "death" in The Avengers, in the Marvel TV series. Hit the jump for details.

This casting news comes courtesy of TV Guide, who posted the following (exclusive) report:

Acker will appear in at least one episode of the ABC series as Audrey, the famous cellist first mentioned in Marvel's The Avengers as being the love of Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) life. A talented musician turning heads in Portland, Audrey believes Coulson to be dead and has no idea that he's guarding her from a distance as a super-powered threat from her past re-emerges.

Acker's casting marks a reunion between the actress and Gregg, who shared the screen in S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing adaptation. Currently starring on Person of Interest, Acker is also well known for her roles on Whedon's Angel and Dollhouse, where she worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. bosses Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Her credits also include Once Upon a Time, The Good Wife and Alias.

You might remember that the cellist to whom Coulson was romantically linked was previously referred to this season by Raina whilst tormenting the kidnapped Coulson (in the 11th episode), saying his love had cried for days after his "death". In episode 10, Coulson also described a woman to Ward who had been "particularly rewarding" to him, and spoke of her affectionately.

According to the report, she will first appear in the episode due to broadcast Tuesday, April 22.

was wondering when he'd ( joss) cast her as something. Joss's Angels. Then Eliza Dushku and more Cobie?
themidnightking - 3/26/2014, 9:56 AM
I wonder how good she is at playing the skin flute

incepshawn - 3/26/2014, 10:05 AM
This is cool. I wonder if there's going to he more to her, such as her being a spy or something planted to keep an eye on him.
AstonishingArachnid - 3/26/2014, 10:07 AM
Hold up. A super powered threat from her past? So Coulson's chellsit has been involved with superheroes and villains before?
LMB10 - 3/26/2014, 10:07 AM
22nd of April, not 22nd episode

Glad to see them expanding on that character, figured she'd show up eventually
YeezusWept - 3/26/2014, 10:08 AM
Loved her as Dr. Saunders/Whiskey in Dollhouse.
cipher - 3/26/2014, 10:13 AM
Yeah, she was great as Dr. Saunders.

I loved Dollhouse. I think it's underappreciated, but I'm a bloody idiot, so it's probably best that nobody listens to a word I say.
fortycals - 3/26/2014, 10:17 AM
Love me some Fred. I wonder if she and gun still be in the same episode.
Comedian03 - 3/26/2014, 10:18 AM
Oh look, another character being brought in just for the sake of bringing them in. Shit like this just makes me shake my head.

Why is it so hard for them to just write standalone episodes? This show has the potential to be great just by doing it's own thing, they don't need to keep squeezing in every single cameo, reference, and character they can. It's pathetic. It's like they don't have faith in their own show.
TheTyrantVirus - 3/26/2014, 10:19 AM
I'd die if she turns out to be Jessica Drew, an agent who was spying on Coulson for Hydra. Probably no chance of that happening, but I've been wanting her to be Jessica Drew for a long time now.

@Cipher dont beat yourself up, I have learned great life lessons from you about drinking and from Yoss about women and food, but never ever from Gusto
Tuuralihn - 3/26/2014, 10:21 AM
Awesome! She is brilliant!
cipher - 3/26/2014, 10:26 AM
jrp6048- Hahahaha, that's good to know. Maybe my existence has a point after all.
cipher - 3/26/2014, 10:27 AM
I think the most important thing we've learned about the old man is that the boogeyman only exists if you're under 18.
YeezusWept - 3/26/2014, 10:27 AM
They need to bring Fran Kranz (Topher Brink) on this show; I don't think he's getting any work at the moment... The usual suspects would definitely hate his humor, though. But towards the end of Dollhouse he definitely showed his range.
jrp6048 - 3/26/2014, 10:28 AM
It sure does, every time you get piss drunk an angel gets his wings. Although I am still learning how to get as drunk as you
jrp6048 - 3/26/2014, 10:28 AM
I have no personal problem with him, it's just that he loves my archenemy
Comedian03 - 3/26/2014, 10:33 AM
Oh yes, because bringing in a character that was mentioned once in a movie in a throwaway line, makes peeeerfect sense.

It's just stupid, how about they focus on writing a good plot, and stop focusing on cramming in all these characters. This show is failing so hard, on so many levels. I actually had high hopes for it, but man is it a big turd of a disappointment week after week.

This show needs to die, people need to realize Joss Whedon isn't a god, and then Marvel needs to make more movies in the style of Captain America: TWS.
jrp6048 - 3/26/2014, 10:35 AM
@Gusto thats the devil not an angel
ProfessorX - 3/26/2014, 10:38 AM
@Comedian03: Um, what? The cellist is probably a HYDRA agent or something. Or HYDRA kidnap her and use her to blackmail Coulson. Either way there will be significance to her.
AsgardianHobo - 3/26/2014, 10:38 AM

"This show is failing so hard, on so many levels. I actually had high hopes for it, but man is it a big turd of a disappointment week after week."

Have you even watched the show recently? It has been badass! Oh well, thanfully most people don't agree with your opinion
jrp6048 - 3/26/2014, 10:40 AM
@Gusto ha tricks on you, I roll on roller skates
cipher - 3/26/2014, 10:41 AM
Every time an angel get it's wings because of me.. it tries to fly backwards and ends up ass-backwards in the inferno. Don't drink and fly, celestial beings..

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The old man's spilled some Miley on the page. Eden has been corrupted.
jrp6048 - 3/26/2014, 10:42 AM
Such wonderful lessons @Cipher
incepshawn - 3/26/2014, 10:42 AM
Actually, she was mentioned on the show. Raina talked about her and how Coulson has been keeping watch on her. So, yeah...this isn't just a "throwaway" line. Also, they discussed her on the episode with Blizzard.
jrp6048 - 3/26/2014, 10:51 AM
@Gusto, hey where did you get that pic of me?
CommanderShepard - 3/26/2014, 10:52 AM
Was going to give article a thumbs up until I saw that it was by ProfessorX.
jrp6048 - 3/26/2014, 10:58 AM
I'll unite with you Gusto, it's just my hatred towards Miley. She corrupted someone I had high hopes for, so I must destroy her
Destined - 3/26/2014, 11:05 AM
She is great on Person of Interest so this is a good move.
ProfessorX - 3/26/2014, 11:06 AM
@CommanderShepard: Thanks sweetie.
CommanderShepard - 3/26/2014, 11:08 AM
Chick is hot, though. Amy Acker, not the disease pool known as Miley Cyrus.
jrp6048 - 3/26/2014, 11:09 AM
@CommanderShepard, I agree 100%
TheAstoundingMan - 3/26/2014, 11:40 AM
Have only seen her in Much Ado About Nothing and at the very tail end of Angel Season 2, but she was pretty great in those.
Rambaldi47 - 3/26/2014, 1:12 PM
She is my dream cast for Jessica Drew. Did anyone watch Alias? Her character in the final season was incredible. You think she's the usual awkward dorky character she always plays, but she turns out to be an amazing villain. And she was in an episode of Grimm where she was bad too. She's got range. I would die if she was Spider-Woman. It seems a waste to just have her as the Cellist. Please tell me she's at least a spy!
TelaVizion - 3/26/2014, 4:19 PM
Fred is still so HOT... Loved seeing her again in "Much Ado About Nothing"
