COMICS: AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Comic Coming; Will Incorporate Characters From TV Series

It was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con today that Mark Waid is launching an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series which will introduce the characters from the TV series to the regular 616 Marvel Universe. Hit the jump for details on that and a first look at artwork from the series!

The line between the comics and movie universes continues to blur as Marvel have announced today a new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series from Mark Waid and a team of revolving artists including Carlos Pacheco, Alan Davis, and Chris Sprouse. It will introduce characters from the TV show to the Marvel Universe, and Agent Coulson is set to have a lead role. "He is the coolest Marvel Comics fan ever. E-V-E-R," Waid said of Clark Gregg, the actor who currently plays the character on TV. "He’s amazing at his job, he’s badass, he’s funny—and he loves the history of the Marvel Universe as much as I do." The format of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won't be too different to the recent Moon Knight series, with a run off one-off stories. Each will seemingly feature an appearance from a well-known Marvel superhero though. "Done-in-one stories are more challenging, no doubt—and every story will focus on one mission, yes—but I’d be very surprised if there weren't some evidence of some common thread once we got rolling, something to give each set of issues more of an arc. Oh, we’re definitely bringing the gang in, from May to Fitz and Simmons and beyond," he revealed. "They're the Marvel Universe “versions” of these characters, which gives us license to really delve into them in ways that are tough with limited screen time each week." What do you guys think of the series?

Is that Simmons on the far right with a [frick]ing giant gun?

I'd be down on this if it weren't Mark Waid. AOS has been a mixed bag at best, but if anyone can make it work he can.
Mrcool210 - 7/27/2014, 2:13 PM
As if the show wasn't bad enough.

Darth258 - 7/27/2014, 2:14 PM
What's that monkey on the bottom left?
PymParticle - 7/27/2014, 2:14 PM
"MCU is a different universe/continuity" blah blah blah.

Clearly, it's not!
charlie2094 - 7/27/2014, 2:15 PM
Mark Waid has me interested, without him I'd write it off completely...guess this was kind of inevitable, was going to happen at some stage.
WhiteSAMURAI - 7/27/2014, 2:20 PM
So something really awesome mixed with something that's not cool at all? I'm going to have to contemplate about buying this series for a long time. Why couldn't Mark Waid just continue doing The Hulk instead?

Bl00dwerK - 7/27/2014, 2:37 PM
Not the first time TV has influenced comics: Harley Quinn anyone?
DeusExSponge - 7/27/2014, 2:37 PM
Interesting... Very, very interesting...
jascurio - 7/27/2014, 2:37 PM
Did anyone go to comic con and get the agents of shield comic that's in continuity with show
FastFlames - 7/27/2014, 2:38 PM
Jemma looking sexy in those right pants
Barry - 7/27/2014, 2:40 PM
On AGENTS OF SHIELD, Agent Leo Fitz is always going on about wanting a monkey. I guess he gets one in the comic.
OptimusPrime114 - 7/27/2014, 2:41 PM
YES! I can't wait to see the 616 version of the AoS team!

I wonder if Grant Ward is in it? And if so, is he the good guy this time around or is he still a Hydra mole?
XF14 - 7/27/2014, 2:41 PM
If I had subscription to Marvel, I'd light it on fire.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 7/27/2014, 2:42 PM
Excellent news and legitimizes the new characters and brings them into the fold. The problem with comics nowadays is that there are barely any new characters. It's rehashes of old characters into new situations. This is good news and should kick writers in the ass to create new interesting characters. This can kinda be like Fire and Ice/ Game of Thrones where the comic writers can create solid stories that the tv series can adapt. ;)

@DrDoom Come to the Community Chat so I can give you James Gunn's number
TheRealRemyLebeau - 7/27/2014, 2:44 PM
You LAMES complain about everything. There are worst characters in the 616 universe then these shield characters smdh. Embrace some new Shit for once Damn.
BritishMonkey - 7/27/2014, 2:46 PM
I thought the movies or the movie continuity don't contradict the comics.
DeusExSponge - 7/27/2014, 2:47 PM
BritishMonkey - It's just introductions for these characters though, don't think they're going to use the plot of Agents of Shield in this comic run.
Nomis - 7/27/2014, 2:48 PM
So is the lack Nick Fury in the regular Marvel universe now?

The agents on the show and movies have only interacted with him.

Or will the (white) Nick Fury be in the books now?
TheRealRemyLebeau - 7/27/2014, 2:49 PM
This also makes it official that skye isn't a known marvel character. @Dr.Doom I'm with you lol.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 7/27/2014, 2:50 PM
@nomis I think Nick Fury Jr. (Black) is in the 616.
BlindJustice - 7/27/2014, 2:52 PM
Haters will always hate. Go watch your ponies and sponges.

The show has gotten very good and having a comic book will hopefully keep it running for a very long time.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 7/27/2014, 2:54 PM
You haters complaining stop. New characters to the 616 is a good thing. We need new characters. Hell I want more new interesting Uncanny X-Men characters. I want New inhuman characters and so on. Makes Marvel more interesting when they don't have to fall back on old characters. I hope the movies introduce a new property as well that's interesting. All new stuff isn't always bad. Writing is key though for both and illustration is key as well for comics.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 7/27/2014, 2:54 PM
@blindjustice preach!!! ;)
Nomis - 7/27/2014, 2:55 PM
@ Remy - thanks.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 7/27/2014, 2:57 PM
Where is my boy Agent tripplett? Damn you marvel. Bring in tripplett. Who the hell I have to tweet to ask this question. Anybody can answer this question.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 7/27/2014, 2:59 PM
@nomis No problem OG triple OG lol. ;)
InfiniteMonkey - 7/27/2014, 3:06 PM
The "monkey" must be a secret "[frick] you" to all the 5 year olds with their mother's laptops commenting in this article who hate this is happening.

BlindJustice - 7/27/2014, 3:06 PM
@TheRealRemyLebeau - Yeah, Tripplet is the agents' connection to the Golden Age. Hopefully he'll be in the comic as well. They need to include Deathlok, but maybe cyber him up some more.
Ramiel - 7/27/2014, 3:11 PM

Seriously, who would buy this crap?
spideyindamcu - 7/27/2014, 3:20 PM
like the series but seems lame
Inhuman - 7/27/2014, 3:23 PM
This won't be part of the MCU
DeusExSponge - 7/27/2014, 3:25 PM
Inhuman - Of course it won't! Storm, Thing and Spiderman are in that picture and we all know that Marvel doesn't have the rights to them (movie wise that is)
Nomis - 7/27/2014, 3:25 PM
@ Remy - LOL! Word!
Mastyrwerk - 7/27/2014, 3:26 PM
Awesome! Like Harley Quinn, it's great that adaptations can go both ways.

And Waid is writing?! Make mine Marvel!
