New Details On Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D & Coulson's Resurrection

Ahead of next week's SDCC panel, EW have managed to uncover some new details on Marvel's upcoming tv series, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. The site reveal a couple of very interesting things about Agent Coulson's (Clark Gregg) return too, so if you don't mind mild SPOILERS, click on..

Next week is Comic-Con time, and one tv panel that has fanboys very excited indeed is Marvels Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. In anticipation of that Hall H presentation, EW have managed to uncover some early info ABC's plans; including some new details on Agent Coulson's much speculated upon return from the great beyond -- It would seem that Coulson is not aware that he was ever dead in the first place! There's also info on how the series will tie into Marvel's big screen output, and whether we'll finally find out who J. August Richards in playing (hint: it probably is Rage) at SDCC.

1. The pilot hints at how mild-mannered kick-ass bureaucrat Agent Coulson (Clarke Gregg) was resurrected to lead the team after being killed off in The Avengers (his S.H.I.E.L.D. colleagues say he must “never know the truth” about his death). Yet you’ll have to keep watching to learn the full story. “We can’t wait to pull the curtain back on that,” says co-creator Jed Whedon. “[But] we’re going to take our time.”

2. The S.H.I.E.L.D. story will work in tandem with the Marvel films, both past and upcoming. In fact, the first episode will pick up a storyline that’s familiar from one of the Marvel hits — and it’s not The Avengers. “We plan on trying to weave in between the films and try to make them more rewarding on both ends,” says Jed Whedon, who points out the trick is to make the audience not ask a certain fanboy-bar-fight-style question: “In any of these [episodes], you can always ask: ‘Why don’t they just call Iron Man?’” Yeah, that would be annoying! So our next question is: Why don’t they just call Iron Man? “They are aware of each other,” Whedon says of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team and the metal-suited Malibu playboy, “but they do have to have their own lives.”

3. Here’s a question from the Internets that will be answered in the pilot: Does J. August Richards play Rage? Expect that and other revelations at the Comic-Con panel, just not a ton of them. “We’ll finally be able to answer some questions,” says co-creator Maurissa Tancharoen. “Though I’m sure we’ll have to stay on the vague end of the spectrum.”

Geotheleo - 7/11/2013, 12:06 PM

TheBeard - 7/11/2013, 12:10 PM
Does J. August Richards play Rage? = Yes
blvdnoise - 7/11/2013, 12:19 PM
This should be fun!
MrCBM56 - 7/11/2013, 12:24 PM
Hope they show the pilot at comic con
FirstAvenger - 7/11/2013, 12:32 PM
I'm calling it. Coulson doesn't know he's a robot.
LEVITIKUZ - 7/11/2013, 12:34 PM
Honestly I have no interest in this show or really SHIELD at all without Sam Jackson.
JoeMomma29 - 7/11/2013, 12:36 PM
He was brought back because of money!!!!!!! Yup Disney had learned how to milk the cow dry!
thenerdicon4 - 7/11/2013, 12:36 PM
i love love love the idea of Coulson coming back and being lied to about it. Only Fury and Hill probably know the truth. This will create some great drama indeed.
ruadh - 7/11/2013, 12:38 PM
"Who is Jed whedon?"

One of the executive producers of the show, and brother of Joss.
Lizardking310 - 7/11/2013, 12:38 PM
They messed up one of the best scenes in the avengers !... Guy took a spear through the heart.. So stupid bringing him back
thenerdicon4 - 7/11/2013, 12:38 PM
the reasoning behind the ressurection maybe money and fan pressure, but i am confidant they have an interesting explination for his death and it wont be "i died now i am back to life get used to it" thats the way a lot of people are treating this. I didnt know people only went to CBM's to see superpowers. I thought they liked character and story. guess im wrong.
TelaVizion - 7/11/2013, 12:38 PM
He's a LMD.... like that Fury one, he doesn't know that he isn't the real thing.

and Jed is Joss' brother I believe
thenerdicon4 - 7/11/2013, 12:39 PM
he still died in avengers, but there is a reaso for his ressurection, just wait folks.
fettastic - 7/11/2013, 12:51 PM
......Who the [frick] is Jed Whedon?
GodzillaKart - 7/11/2013, 12:51 PM
thefirstavenger97: I'm sure you're right. He's a life model decoy.
TheSisko - 7/11/2013, 12:52 PM
@FanofSteel Marvel fan are happy Coulson is back, it is the Nolanites who are not. Coulson is either an LMD or the skrulls are somehow involved.
JoeMomma29 - 7/11/2013, 12:58 PM
@ Gusto

LOL!!! That is funny!!!

Hardly the best scene in the Avengers. Might of been one of the dumbest actually. He got a spear through the heart which would've sent a geiser of blood right out of his mouth followed by instant death. Instead he lingers, hardly showing any trouble breathing, talking, he even cracks a joke.
It's hard to pick which death scene was more pathetic- Coulson's or Talia's in TDKR.
JoeMomma29 - 7/11/2013, 1:01 PM
@ Nomis

ROBBEATZZZ - 7/11/2013, 1:02 PM
yea LMD..Tony joked that Coulson was speaking with a Stark LMD in Avengers.
WackyBantha - 7/11/2013, 1:06 PM
Jed Whedon is the guy pretending to be agent Coulson. The real Coulson died in Iron Man 2 when he tried to pick up Thor's hammer, mjornudhgugjhkfg.
gaikinger - 7/11/2013, 1:16 PM
their was never a human Coulson....he is The Vision
CherryBomb - 7/11/2013, 1:16 PM

I don't see why they're keeping J. August Richards character so secretive.
Probably because when we find out who he is everyone will hate the answer.

RyGoR - 7/11/2013, 1:16 PM
Can't wait this show will be awesome!!
capcyclopsftw - 7/11/2013, 1:17 PM
Fettastic is at it again!
LEVITIKUZ - 7/11/2013, 1:27 PM
How could you do this to me Nomis?

localman22 - 7/11/2013, 1:32 PM
Did you hear about the devoted Cleveland Browns fan and long time season ticket holder who recently died?

In his will, he asked that the team provide six players to act as his pallbearers so that they could let him down one more time.
WorstUserNameEver - 7/11/2013, 1:50 PM
The only worry is that ABC will cancel before the awesomeness is realised (see Firefly).
SpectacularJoSh - 7/11/2013, 2:27 PM
They are going to make us watch the whole show to learn how a character who should have stayed dead was resurrected? Douche move.
ruadh - 7/11/2013, 2:42 PM
Yet you'll watch.
Marveloverdc - 7/11/2013, 2:52 PM
He's a Life decoy and will be developed into that vision!!!
mgeoff88 - 7/11/2013, 3:01 PM
Hmmm... will the real Agent Coulson please stand up? :P
jaysin420 - 7/11/2013, 3:09 PM
I'll give it a try but I hate that they're bringing back Coulsen. Now whenever anyone dies in this universe we're going to have to question whether they're really dead.

I love the character and the actor, and he's a great fit for the tv show.....but still I'd rather they just bring in a different character to lead this show.
TheRedSkull - 7/11/2013, 3:15 PM
Yay! Bring it on! Coulson Lives!
bagadoosh - 7/11/2013, 3:18 PM
just like when they kill in comics
PeterParker1991 - 7/11/2013, 3:24 PM
That dude in the brown and yellow should be Luke Cage.. and as for Coulson's resurrection, I'm speculating that he's a clone.
AwesomeSauce - 7/11/2013, 3:55 PM
@nowtheresaBATman The stupidest death is now being held by Jonathan Kent of MoS. Clark says "you're not my dad, [frick] you", Pa Kent replies with his eyes "[frick] you back", then Twister the movie comes into MoS and the man of stale hides with his not-mother and Pa Kent forgot that he wasn't the indestructible alien. Pa Kent dies and Clark Parker cries.
AwesomeSauce - 7/11/2013, 3:57 PM
@WorstUserNameEver Firefly was on fox and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will be shown on ABC and Disney owns ABC.
