Patrick Brennan To Play Marvel Villain 'Blackout' On AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Patrick Brennan To Play Marvel Villain 'Blackout' On AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel has made the latest casting decision for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in which Patrick Brennan (The Next Three Days) will play Marvel villain Blackout. The problem is, there are two versions of the character, so which one will Brennan portray? Hit the Jump to read on!

In Marvel Comics, there is are two villains that go under the name of 'Blackout,' one with the power to suck the energy out of anything around him, and the second is a villain to Ghost Rider, who was played by Johnny Whitworth in the second film. But it appears as if Patrick Brennan (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2) will be playing the first of the two choices, who's comic name is Marcus Daniels, and will somehow tie into 'The Cellist.' Read on to see his thoughts on the role and more!
Here's what the actor had to say about his upcoming role on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: What they told me is this guy, Marcus Daniels, a.k.a. Blackout, was shrouded in darkness, his soul, everything about him was shrouded in darkness until he comes across this Cello player. And the music was the only light that came into his soul, and it gave him hope and it gave him some sense of what light was. I thought to myself, oh my god, you don’t even need to explain anything else. Because music, to me, is what gets me through most of the time. My kids, my wife, and music. That aspect of it totally intrigued me. I thought that was quite beautiful and very interesting, that aspect of the character. So what are your thoughts on Brennan's role in the series? Leave your thoughts in the usual place!

Reprising his role from The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Blackout? Demon Blackout? Enemy of Ghost Rider?

Well . . . . that's interesting, if unexpected.
AgentZero - 3/28/2014, 2:57 PM
Interesting !!!
ProfessorX - 3/28/2014, 2:59 PM
Darkforce Blackout or demon Blackout?
Tuuralihn - 3/28/2014, 3:00 PM
oh I love that idea. That Coulsons cellist-lady's music is his only light. Sounds brilliant!
GenerationX - 3/28/2014, 3:00 PM
nice article title....nothing but Blackout
DrDoom - 3/28/2014, 3:01 PM

DarkForce Blackout. I see now. Still, interesting.
MrCBM56 - 3/28/2014, 3:02 PM
No idea who this is.
ProfessorX - 3/28/2014, 3:03 PM
So he somehow ties in with the cellist? Interesting...
ProfessorX - 3/28/2014, 3:08 PM
It would be awesome if in the finale Deathlok breaks Blizzard, Graviton, Blackout, etc. out of SHIELD custody. That could be the cliffhanger which the season ends on.
AsgardianHobo - 3/28/2014, 3:13 PM
@Rockteur - This show rocks, go cry somewhere else.

Tying him the cellist is intriguing indeed. Coulson is gonna flip, and so will she when she sees he's alive!
ALmazing - 3/28/2014, 3:13 PM
You mean this guy form that awful GR movie?

batz11 - 3/28/2014, 3:13 PM
Dio, believe Ghost is back...

Patrick Brennan (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” “The Black Donnellys”) will make his debut as Marcus Daniels, a.k.a. Blackout in the original Marvel comics, in the series’ upcoming eighteenth episode, “Providence,” before playing a larger role in the following episode.

First appearing in NOVA (1976) #19, “Providence” will mark Daniels’ live-action debut, but with his powers slightly different than in the comics: This version of Daniels will have the ability to suck the energy out of anything around him.

-- Yeah, that’s very cool. I do love that visual of wherever he goes, the lights blink out behind him.

Patrick Brennan: You know what’s cool about that? I thought that they would do that [in post-production] but on the set it was happening all around me, so I got to act with it happening all around me. How cool is that? It was a lot of fun and I’ll be a hero in my five-year old’s heart. And my thirteen-year nephew. All of a sudden I’m cool, which is a great thing.
JoJo1982 - 3/28/2014, 3:14 PM
I thought they was talking about ghost rider villain at first

I was about go crazy
ProfessorX - 3/28/2014, 3:14 PM
@ALmight: No, same name but different character.
ALmazing - 3/28/2014, 3:22 PM
@ProfessorX-I see
Pedrito - 3/28/2014, 3:25 PM
I just hope they don't give the cellist some lame-ass cello powers like the chick from Heroes!
HulkOnion - 3/28/2014, 3:26 PM
cool i guess
CaptainComicBook - 3/28/2014, 3:31 PM
Where are all the DC haters?
Shroombeast - 3/28/2014, 3:33 PM
Seems like most of the people commenting didn't even read the article...
grif - 3/28/2014, 3:33 PM
we can only hope he looks as awesome and epic as deathlok. seriously.... where is the quality control? why cant they design nice costumes for these people? not that i care about this show. but this show is related to the movies. its embarrassing.
TheFox - 3/28/2014, 3:38 PM
Hmm. So that's... uhh... yeah, that's... that's kinda...

... God, this show sucks. Why make a tie-in television series to the Marvel cinematic universe if you're only going to cull from the lowest, most obscure Z-grade characters to populate it?

I swear to God, this show is doing more damage to the Marvel brand than f%$#ing Howard the Duck did.

ProfessorX - 3/28/2014, 3:38 PM
@shroombeast: The article was in construction for a long time. It did't have the info it does now.
ChiliConCarney - 3/28/2014, 3:43 PM
@ Merc

That literally made me laugh out loud.

@ article

I was really hoping for the demonic Blackout but this could be interesting... Apparently, this Blackout tangled with Nova, and was involved with Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil.

ProfessorX - 3/28/2014, 3:45 PM
@TheFox: Only an imbecile would ask why they're using lesser known characters for a TV show (- because the best characters are saved for the films, obviously!). If you think the show sucks then how about you stop watching and GTFO of these articles?
Namor - 3/28/2014, 3:47 PM
I was kinda hoping they somehow introduced the Wrecking Crew as Villains. Thought that would of worked well, with the tie in's to Thors world..
JerBear - 3/28/2014, 3:49 PM
"Why make a tie-in television series to the Marvel cinematic universe if you're only going to cull from the lowest, most obscure Z-grade characters to populate it?"

This show is not like Arrow, it exists in a bigger universe. They can't just introduce characters willy-nilly. Deathlok, Lorelei, Graviton, Blizzard these are exactly the kind of characters that SHOULD be appearing in this show.
Polygame - 3/28/2014, 3:50 PM
let me guess..his costume will be a black leather jacket...
anthonyEstark - 3/28/2014, 3:51 PM
Marvel probably would have done the demonic Blackout, but we just saw him in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and we all know how well THAT turned out...
ChiliConCarney - 3/28/2014, 3:56 PM
@ anthony

You mean THIS Ghost Rider?

... yeah, those made Green Lantern look good.

JerBear - 3/28/2014, 3:57 PM
What if Marvel introduced a character like She-Hulk and then later on decided she'd be better served being introduced in her own show/movie or Daredevil? Now they've given AoS fans the expectations of seeing She-Hulk every so often, when in retrospect she never should have been introduced on AoS at all. The characters they've introduced on AoS are characters that will continue to appear on AoS.
JerBear - 3/28/2014, 3:59 PM
Also, as Kevin Feige said they don't believe A-tier, B-tier, C-tier, etc. It's Marvel's job to make them all A-tier.
JoJo1982 - 3/28/2014, 4:05 PM

It's going to be 3 yrs from now

And haters are still going to be talking about "cancel this shit"

If they hate the show that much just don't watch it duh

MercwithMouth - 3/28/2014, 4:06 PM
Thankfully I never saw GR2.

Don't know anything about the character, so could be cool. I just want my AoS!
TheFox - 3/28/2014, 4:07 PM
@ProfessorX: It's not an imbecilic question-- you're just reading into the wrong part of it. OF COURSE they're saving their more well-known characters for the movies... THAT'S WHY THIS SHOW HAS NO BUSINESS EXISTING. If they can't do better than characters like Graviton, Blizzard, and Blackout (the LESSER-KNOWN Blackout, at that), then why waste the budget, the time, and the goodwill of their audience? When DEATHLOK is your big star attraction, what kind of mediocre pile of garbage have you produced?

The forced synergy with the Marvel Cinematic Universe is KILLING this show. But I want to like it-- I really do! That's why I keep coming onto these articles! But I also want to see them to the logical, entertaining thing and introduce recognizable-yet-low-tier characters like Spider-Woman, Wonder Man, Taskmaster... guys who will never end up in their own movies, but who would give this series some energy and some color!

Blackout (the other one) is not a step in the right direction. And if I want to bitch about it, well, that's what the comment section is for.

(And if you want to bitch about my bitching, then feel free-- that's ALSO what the comment section is for.)

@JerBear: Thank you for being less insulting in your response. But the Marvel Universe has more than just A-, B-, and Z-level characters. There's a happy medium between Iron Man and Graviton, and this show is completely ignoring it.

Besides, if they're going to go and make this a Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-in, why not go full-tilt? Let the crossover go BOTH WAYS, and introduce someone on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. who might pop up in a movie one day. Worst case scenario, you recast the character for the movie and give him a more expensive costume... but you've also already introduced him to audiences, and it spurs interest in the show when he pops up in a movie.

Anyway, that's just my thoughts on the subject-- at this point, I'm not expecting much at all from this show. Still, I was expecting a little more than this.

SpoonWielder - 3/28/2014, 4:10 PM
Isn't the guy from Ghost Rider called BlackHEART?
TheFox - 3/28/2014, 4:14 PM
@SpoonWielder: Blackheart? That's the villain from the FIRST movie-- Mephisto's son. In the SECOND movie, we meet Blackout-- a demonically-powered guy who can isolate people in a realm of darkness, or something... and in the film, he can decompose stuff with a touch.

BeyondTheGrave - 3/28/2014, 4:15 PM
was kinda hoping they'd introduce Ghost Rider in Agents of shield, it could work. The agents are down south investigating something suspicious and BAAM supernatural and here comes johnny blaze.
marvelmaniaco - 3/28/2014, 4:17 PM
I really hope this show is picked up for a second season! I loved the first episode but then went off it but now I love it! It was slow to start to do character development and each character brings something new to the table! Plus I love all the Easter eggs and mentions from the films! I really want to know who the clairvoyant is and see more cameos from comic book characters!
