Don't Hold Your Breath For Marvel Superheros In The LEGO MOVIE Sequel

Don't Hold Your Breath For Marvel Superheros In The LEGO MOVIE Sequel

We'd all love it of course, and it sounds like directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller would love it too, but while chatting to Coming Soon the duo don't sound too hopeful about it. Still, there's a "maybe" in there! Take a look at the video interview after the jump.

It would almost certainly be our only chance to see Marvel and DC comic characters on the big screen together, but alas it sounds like it's just not to be. Here's what the directors of the first LEGO Movies (though they are only on board as producers on the planned sequel_ had to say to Coming Soon about it.

If Disney and WB could work together for Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I don't see why they couldn't work together in The Lego Movie.

Brainiac13 - 6/7/2014, 11:00 AM
Would be cool.........but WB will only promote their own brand.
iZinDiaN - 6/7/2014, 11:01 AM
This movie was exceptional. Never would've thought I'd be saying that about a Lego movie.
DeusExSponge - 6/7/2014, 11:05 AM
Brainiac13 - True, but if they do include Marvel characters in the movie, the lack of promotion they get could lead to a surprise cameo. I'd rather be surprised by their appearence than know that they'll appear in the movie 12 months ahead of the movies release.
GuardianAngel - 6/7/2014, 11:05 AM
Marvel/DC crossover? Maybe we can finally get that Superman vs Hulk showdown.
QuestiontheAnswer - 6/7/2014, 11:09 AM
Introduce more DC characters then. Give me Question!!!
AlexanderLykins - 6/7/2014, 11:11 AM
Warner Bros. has it's motives. Just like Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment does for it's properties. Not going to happen.
monstalova - 6/7/2014, 11:13 AM
Well it is a Warner Brothers production!
But in saying that, WB would be the company to allow some sort of Marvel participation in there... Haha. Lego movie was fun and a lot better than expected. Who cares about DC vs Marvel! Even though DC makes better movies consistently. Instead of Marvels kiddie friendly jokefest. Whoops did I say that...
DarkGrifter - 6/7/2014, 11:13 AM
Well WB Games held the rights for the Lego Marvel game, so maybe they could hypothetically use the Marvel properties for the movie with the right permissions. But then again I have almost no understanding of the business/legal side of movie production.
In my mind, this is how it all goes down.

AlexanderLykins - 6/7/2014, 11:16 AM
It's a good thing Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment has Disney on it's side. Maybe we can get Pixar, Marvel and Disney to work together and put together another universe in animation. It would crap on Warner Bros. animation.
AlexanderLykins - 6/7/2014, 11:18 AM
Also anticipating another Lego Marvel Super Heroes game. That game was so much fun.
AlexanderLykins - 6/7/2014, 11:18 AM
The Lego games are fun in general.
JordanKing - 6/7/2014, 11:20 AM
@TheManFromMars Because we don't live in the 80s anymore.
ManWithNoName - 6/7/2014, 11:21 AM
Well that was expected
Reasonnnn - 6/7/2014, 11:22 AM
Lego Justice League movie tho
Wilmot - 6/7/2014, 11:22 AM
Inferiority complex. WarnerDC, always second behind DisneyMarvel.
MrBlackJack - 6/7/2014, 11:27 AM
Don't worry, I wasn't.
MrBlackJack - 6/7/2014, 11:27 AM
Would have been hilarious to see them in it though.
MrBlackJack - 6/7/2014, 11:28 AM
"Inferiority complex. WarnerDC, always second behind DisneyMarvel."

Lol, yeah, that's why Marvel has never gotten a Lego game from WB befo-, oh wait...
Bekss - 6/7/2014, 11:30 AM
For some reason Lego movie was not as big in foreign countries as in the US
XF14 - 6/7/2014, 11:35 AM
Not a surprise, it is a WB venture, who owns DC, so why would they help the competition by advertising their characters?
TheManFromMars - 6/7/2014, 11:37 AM

BlindJustice - 6/7/2014, 11:45 AM
@GuardianAngel - Hulk would own LEGO Superman. Seriously, Supes was defeated by a piece of gum for crying out loud!
McGee - 6/7/2014, 11:51 AM
No Marvel characters in a WB film? The hell you say.
XF14 - 6/7/2014, 11:51 AM
"Lego Movie was one of the most intelligently written animated films of all time."

This is a joke, right?
Pasto - 6/7/2014, 11:57 AM
So you mean to tell me that MARVEL characters won't be in a film that has major ties to DC properties?

No fooling...
patrat18 - 6/7/2014, 11:57 AM
"Marvel and Disney to work together and put together another universe in animation. It would crap on Warner Bros. animation."

The only movie pixar has that's better than the lego movie is Toy story 1.
SuperCat - 6/7/2014, 12:11 PM
TheKryce - 6/7/2014, 12:20 PM
Well it seems that they are totally allowed to use Disney characters since there were Star Wars characters in the Lego Movie.
RobtimusPrime - 6/7/2014, 12:23 PM
Shocked how good this movie was.

Lego Marvel & DC?
If they maintain the Quality of the 1st, with the right scheduling your looking at a mega-blockbuster that would be #1 for at least 3 weeks.
AlexanderLykins - 6/7/2014, 12:27 PM
Sorry, I meant DC/Warner Bros. would get crapped on.
DukeAcureds - 6/7/2014, 12:35 PM
One day...
We might see this:

As a trilogy, co-directed by Snyder and Whedon.

Just... y'know? That. That.
DCGuy - 6/7/2014, 1:29 PM
I rather just keep playing the lego games LOL, the lego batman film was good but if they start involving heroes too much it will lose a little sense
patrat18 - 6/7/2014, 1:46 PM
AlexanderLykins - If you say so.
DrunkenNukem - 6/7/2014, 2:15 PM
this was expected
Mankzin2 - 6/7/2014, 2:33 PM
Would be neat to watch to see.

"Hail Kobra"
dnno1 - 6/7/2014, 2:41 PM

Superman: "I guess they don't want to come out and play with us"
Batman: "Wimps."

PhilipG - 6/7/2014, 3:05 PM
We need to start crossing these characters over! Would be so cool.
LEEE777 - 6/7/2014, 3:46 PM
IF they can't do it even in a LEGO movie, what hope have we got? Though got STAR WARS and TMNT's in the first one with DC heroes... damn only managed to watch an hour of that, should watch the rest lol.
SCURVYDOG619 - 6/7/2014, 3:49 PM
Marvel, you sneaky bastards..

Apparently they've been working on some OTHER properties...

Yeah...That Department H reference on Agents of SHIELD?
