UPDATE: Good Grief Charlie Brown! First PEANUTS Trailer

UPDATE: Good Grief Charlie Brown! First PEANUTS Trailer

Charles Schulz's Peanuts characters that first appeared as a comic strip and then later led to numerous television specials is getting a computer-generated update for their next feature film. Hit the jump to check it out, you blockhead!

You can mark your calendar based on which Peanuts television special is being broadcast. Most families still park themselves in front of their tubes and watch the classics: "It's the Great Pumpkin", "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving." And now, we all can look forward, or dread, the new feature-length film that is currently being produced. There hasn't been one of those since 1980's Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown. The good news is that the film is being cared for by Charles Shulz's son, Craig. He's producing this 3-D/CG animated feature. The screenplay was written by Craig's son Bryan, along with his writing partner Cornelius Uliano. Steve Martino is the director. He previously helmed Ice Age: Continental Drift.

For the first time ever, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang we know and love from Charles Schulz's timeless "Peanuts" comic strip will be making their big-screen debut; like they've never been seen before in a CG-Animated Feature film in 3D.

This brings me back to my childhood. The animation looks good.

Like a snapped pencil, this has no point. They look like poorly drawn greetings cards, with half-arsed photoshop colouring over very nice 2D drawing. But, if this is what it takes to bring in the 21st century sugar high, bordering on the retarded child then so be it. Peanuts was great in the old 50's strips. Wasn't overly mad on the Snoopy cartoon. I just wonder if this will be another '90's Little Rascals' movie. Too beholden but not enough, shit or get off the pot, kinda thing. Who knows. It could be brilliant. Could be a car crash. But things like the Top Cat film from a year or two back leave me VERY cynical.

Solid animation for CG, by sticking with 2D designs

RetroFit - 3/18/2014, 7:31 AM
I just hope they don't ruin this like they ruined Garfield and The Smurfs. Those movies were TERRIBLE!
MajorTom - 3/18/2014, 7:48 AM
Looks good for once, please screw this up!
Jaxim - 3/18/2014, 7:56 AM
One good thing about this movie is that there probably won't be crude body/bathroom humor as been done in other recent cartoon adaptations: i.e. Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, etc. Note to Hollywood writers/directors - you don't need to add such humor to make a movie entertaining to kids and adults.
jimoakley666 - 3/18/2014, 8:02 AM
@McGee - You can fuk off too.
MexicanSexyman - 3/18/2014, 8:33 AM

valeriesghost - 3/18/2014, 9:16 AM
I grew up reading Peanuts and loving the cartoon speacials. still do. I really like what ive seen here. I hope it stays true to the heart of the comic strip.
MericawithanM - 3/18/2014, 9:38 AM
this type of cg animation i can get behind.
jimoakley666 - 3/18/2014, 10:22 AM
@TheMexican - Aw, don't cry.
Super12 - 3/18/2014, 10:53 AM
This has WIN written all over it
Ceejay - 3/18/2014, 11:08 AM
This type of animation doesn't look like something to pull in the masses for, especially paying the extra in 3D. Even the kids voice acting sounds a bit phoned in so I'm hoping it didn't cost too much because I don't see it making much at the box office. I hope I'm wrong because I love Peanuts but I feel they should have made this a TV series instead.
