WRECK-IT RALPH Deleted Scene Reveals An Abounded Game World

Forget Lincoln, forget Zero Dark Thirty, or any other film that is being considered for Best Picture, for me, Wreck-It Ralph was the best film of the year. Hit the jump to check out an animatic of a deleted scene from the Disney animated feature.

IGN Movies: So I first want to discuss this deleted scene and Extreme EZ Livin' 2. Can you talk a bit about the context of this clip, the Bobby Dunderson character, and how it originally fit into the story?

Rich Moore: Well, Extreme EZ Livin' was this idea that was floated out to Ralph by Bobby Dunderson, who was this kind of ne'er-do-well Hero's Duty character. He told Ralph about this other game that sounded like paradise. It was a place where there were no good guys, no bad guys, just guys -- and girls and sun and surf. It was kind of this Shangri-La where Ralph could forget his troubles. It was a game sort of like The Sims meets Grand Theft Auto, and it was a little amoral with no object to the game. It was just about collecting what we called "Like Its" from other characters in the game, depending on how well you were dressed or what kind of accouterments you were wearing. It was a place where Ralph could drown his sorrows in a hot tub with margaritas. Eventually, in the story, it was the place that Ralph was going to go once he disappointed Vanellope and himself. You know, it was another game world that came very late in the story that people were finding a lot to digest in a movie of about 90 minutes long. In fact, it was making our movie about two hours long, which is pretty long for an animated film. Unfortunately, even though we all loved the idea of this place and what seemed to be a paradise for Ralph as well as a real bottom for him, it was just too much to add in the film. Hopefully, we'll maybe get to revisit that idea, because I think it's one that's worth exploring. It just didn't make the cut for the first Wreck-It Ralph.

Wreck-It Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?Available on DVD & Blu-Ray February 12!

Lincoln sucks.

Of course you thought it was best film of the year- it's a mindless entertainment for children with short attention spans and a kitsch story with lame geek references thrown in.

FYI. The Digital Download Copy is released tomorrow, but the DVD & Blu Ray won't be available until March. Ignore the last sentence of the last paragraph.

The movie was fun, definitely not the best of the year, but very enjoyable.

This scene would have been cool.

Also, Zero Dark Thirty was absolute shit. The last half hour where they raid the compound was alright, but overall it was just so slow.
HavocPrime - 2/11/2013, 4:48 PM
Guess it wasn't grim and dark enough for some then...

We done this a lot withAvengers & TDKR!!

So Lets NOT bring other great film into "forget that, this is the best" shit!

Lincoln was Amazing & I'm British & yes I laughed hard at the anti-Englishmen joke! It's a great film! If its not your taste then that doesn't make it a bad film!
Same for ZERO DARK THIRTY; after all the CIA controversy; I don't know HOW much was real & what was Added for film! But still a great film!
So was DJANGO & Avengers & TDKR & SKYFALL & LOOPER & Les Misrables & my fav (along with TDKR) is ARGO!!
All of them are highly rated by critics & loved by people so stop this COMPARING shit!

Oh & BTW; last night ARGO rolled over... OSCARS in BAFTAS!
The only thing ARGO defeated was ACADEMY'S OLD & OutDated Mentality that'll keep Ben Affleck for ARGO & NOLAN for Inception out of Best Director nomination even!!
David O Rusell apparently did a better job cuz his 4 actors got nominated!
Or KINGS SPEECH's (& Les Misrables) director TOM HOOPER apparently did more hard work than NOLAN on INCEPTION or FINCHER on SOCIAL NETWORK or DANY BOYLE on 127 Hours!
That's the sick & bullshit mentality of old Oscar voters is what's need to be changed & as once our own BATMAN (as BRUCE WAYNE said!) "People need Dramatic examples to shake them...." We'll I guess, "AGRO's FVCK ACADEMY" sweep might just help!!
We all need that shit to STOP!!!

it was good but could have been way better. sugar rush was giving me a tooth ache after awhile ....I just wish they'd explored more of the arcade games before getting to sugar rush. and this scene would have made no real sense...

I like Wreck-It Ralph but I thought ParaNorman was better animated movie.

I think they should get a different director for Zero Dark 31. That series could use a reboot.
