First Look At Shun Oguri In The Live-Action LUPIN III Movie

Spy set pics capture Japanese actor Shun Oguri as Arsène Lupin III on the set of the live-action Lupin III movie. It appears he's wearing the look from Hayao Miyazaki's Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro.

Actor Shun Oguri on set in the trademark black dress shirt and yellow tie. Only thing he's missing is the green jacket. Oguri lost 18 pounds for the role but Japanese fans are mixed on his selection for the titular protagonist.

"Lupin III (ルパン三世 Rupan Sansei), is a 1967 Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Monkey Punch (Katō Kazuhiko) that follows the incredible feats and adventures of Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief of Maurice Leblanc's series which is often described as a French counterpart to Arthur Conan Doyle's creation Sherlock Holmes. That first manga has spawned a worldwide phenomenon that now includes anime, OVAs, a previous live-action film, music soundtracks, video games and even a musical. Considered the world's greatest thief, Lupin III, travels the globe, stealing priceless objects and announcing his intentions via calling card before pulling off the heist. Joining him are expert marksman and Lupin right-hand man right-hand man Daisuke Jige, master swordsman Goemon Ishikawa XIII who is said to possess a sword and skills that can cut anything and femme fatale Fujiko Mine, fellow thief and Lupin love interest. Pursuing them across the globe is Inspector Koichi Zenigata, who has made it his life mission to catch the master thief."

Mecha: They actually made a live-action Lupin movie in the 70s, which is available in English from Discotek. And Gerald Molen was once involved in a Hollywood remake.

The guy really looks nothing like Lupin. Then again Lupin doesn't look Japanese.

Suprised they didnt snag up Zachary Levi.

So did anybody tell them that Lupin is French?
thebearjew - 11/30/2013, 6:53 PM
seriously they couldn't even give lupin his signature side burns?
DZ123 - 11/30/2013, 10:35 PM
irish: Well, that's 'cus Lupin's technically part-Japanese, part-French-hence his being the third generation of Arsene Lupin.

Bojac: Did anyone tell Hollywood that Goku is not white?
AshleyJWilliams - 11/30/2013, 10:53 PM
Bojac - He is half French, half Japanese man. So he should look at least a little japanese.

Being a huge fan of the character over the years I really am not feeling that he is right for the part. I would honestly much rather see them work on a new 4th Lupin series than a Live Action Film. Lupin works best in animation!

I'll just stick with the millions of animated movies and TV shows I have yet to see.
