Turning from a company who simply licenses its characters out to other studios in to a studio that makes the movies themselves has allowed Marvel a lot more freedom. However this freedom has sadly run up against the wall of past and possibly future labor issues. Take the jump for why 2009 might only see one Marvel movie hit the big screens.

An ANTMAN Movie? Why? Why not just introduce the Hank and Janet Pym characters (Not the heroes themselves.) In an Iron Man or Incredible Hulk sequel before The Avengers hit theatres. Heck, even in the Captain America movie right at the end. Like, ie: Right at the very end, Tony Stark, Nicky Fury, Thunderbolt Ross, Bruce Banner (Who idolizes Cap.), Hank and Janet are scavaging the North looking for Cap, and Boom, there he is, roll credits. Just like Nick Fury in Iron Man and Tony Stark in Incredible Hulk. To follow that 'last second' pattern only makes sense.

I kind of agree with you. I have enjoyed both of the newest editions to the marvel movies (hulk and Iron man). I reciently purchased both of those on DVD. I have five boys whom all love super hero's I just hope one of them doesn't try to fly (again). However what I have noticed. There are so many subtle hints in both of these movies.. that even though I have watched them now approx. 10 or more times. and well each time I do. I seem to catch some little hint that unless your knowing what your looking for, it wouldn't even make you think.. that is just it.. those movies made you think.. what could be next.. who will they do next...
I do have my own theory's. Paying close attention, how they brought in SHIELD in Iron Man, and Tony Stark in the Hulk, there are other subtle hints also...when Bruce when to Dr Samuel Sterns for the experimental elixur and SHIELD comes to arrest him, after hulk leaves and "bad guy"comes and forces the Doc to inject him with Hulk blood, he gets knocked over, has a cut on his head, and a bit of hulk blood gets mixed in with his own. I didn't quite piece it together until recently, I believe this to be the next subtle link for the next film. Now I am by no means fully educated with comic book history, however I am catching on... I think they are heading for an AVENGERS series. and well quite possibly start with the original cast of characters: Iron Man, Ant Man, Wasp, Hulk and Thor. Not sure if they will make each different move for back ground purposes, not sure how big fan base, however I agree to link both wasp and aunt man together, and then Thor could possibly hold his own..
I know that Captain America did join the group... however not until the Hulk left.. that is what I believe would be a good third avengers movie.. being the first movie to be based on the original group as for mentioned. The second movie, could be used to bring on other characters.. random ones, like Wolverine, Spider Man, Fantastic Four, they would play small parts... bits through out the movie.. cameos of sorts.... and then ending with the Hulk leaving... and then the third movie have Captain America join..... that is what my theory is... I was actually pretty proud of myself that I was even able to piece that together, the same night I finished watching the Hulk on the big screen... as soon as I seen Tony Stark I knew there would be more... and I love them... keep them coming... both the kids and I love it....

I like the idea of an Antman movie. This is a character that plays a huge role in the Avengers, and also has a very human side that most superheroes don't. Seeing his discovery of Pym Particles, and how he develops his powers would be pretty cool. If they could also include his transformation to Yellowjacket and Giant Man, that would just sweeten the pot.
As for Samuel Sterns, he becomes a nemesis to the Hulk known as The Leader.

i dont get your argument.. why give thor a series then? or captain america? why not introduce them in sequels? ant-man is an avenger too and should get a film. if edgar wright directs it'll probably be the best of any avenger's individual movie. it already sounds more appealing than a thor in magical asgard movie to me.

not only is antman an avenger... he's a FOUNDING avenger
and he has had an interesting history, so an antman movie sounds pretty legit
