Directors Up For ANT-MAN: Rawson Thurber, Adam McKay & Ruben Fleischer

Directors Up For ANT-MAN: Rawson Thurber, Adam McKay & Ruben Fleischer

Late last night El Mayimbe reported Louis D'Esposito was at the top of Marvel's list to replace Edgar Wright as the next Ant-Man director, but The Hollywood Reporter has heard three other directors are in the mix as well. Come check it out.

When Edgar Wright ("Hot Fuzz") suddenly departed Marvel's Ant-Man, fans were stunned. Who could blame them? Wright had been working on the project for eight years, before the Marvel cinematic universe began with Iron Man. It finally looked like it would become a reality as Wright had shot and presented some fantastic test footage proving that the diminutive superhero could hold his own. We all knew Wright could pull off comedy but we were convinced he could handle action as well when Wright delivered a great choreographed action sequence (bathroom brawl) in 2013's The World's End. Wright's Ant-Man will now go down as one of the great "what ifs" of cinema. So, who will replace Edgar Wright? The Hollywood Reporter believes they know of three directors that are in the hunt:
"Sources say Rawson Thurber, Adam McKay and Ruben Fleischer are among a group of directors that are meeting with the studio to replace Edgar Wright." - Borys Kit

Alright, let's take a closer look at the contenders. First up, Rawson Marshall Thurber. Thurber is best known for directing DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story, We're the Millers and Easy A. Adam McKay is best known for directing Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Step Brothers. Lastly, Ruben Fleischer is responsible for Zombieland, 30 Minutes or Less and Gangster Squad.

Also of note: in previous reports Jonathan Levine, director of Warm Bodies, was said to have been in the mix but The Hollywood Reporter says he was never approached for the job.

Out of those three, which one would you like to see get the gig?

Marvel's "mite"-iest hero will hit theaters July 17, 2015 courtesy of director Edgar Wright, from a screenplay Edgar co-wrote with Joe Cornish. The film stars: Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. The cast also includes: Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Corey Stoll, Patrick Wilson and Matt Gerald.

Hmm. So what do we know about these guys?
Jcool - 5/30/2014, 8:31 AM
Ruben Fleischer would be the one to take this. He needs a hit.
Doopie - 5/30/2014, 8:32 AM
I'd prefer Fleischer out of the three. also are we talking in italics now?
DaVinci31 - 5/30/2014, 8:33 AM

What do you know . . . they're all known for comedy.
rockerdude22 - 5/30/2014, 8:33 AM
I'd prefer Fleischer out of those three
Nomis - 5/30/2014, 8:34 AM
Ruben Fleischer? don't know him but I love those classic fleischer Superman cartoons from the '40s.

Ramiel - 5/30/2014, 8:34 AM

TChalla - 5/30/2014, 8:35 AM
Adam Mckay!
DaVinci31 - 5/30/2014, 8:36 AM

So, It's because they didn't want british comedy?
Gusto - 5/30/2014, 8:36 AM
Three words...Uwe Boll.

80sFace - 5/30/2014, 8:38 AM
Fleischer best out of the 3, but ... damn... not encouraging... Marvel's first true stinker..??
CaptainPete17 - 5/30/2014, 8:38 AM
I was thinking the other day that Adam McKay might be a good choice, weird...
DefcoN - 5/30/2014, 8:39 AM
The one from Anchorman if possible.
SuperCat - 5/30/2014, 8:39 AM
Hard to get excited about any of them. Thought most of their movies were just ok.

Ramiel - 5/30/2014, 8:39 AM

Ruben directed Zombieland. Everything else he's directed has been trash.
soforizo - 5/30/2014, 8:40 AM
Rawson Thurber or D’Esposito
MrCBM56 - 5/30/2014, 8:41 AM

McKay is probably the best out of three of them, but none of them have experience in filming epic fight scenes like Wright has with Scott Pilgrim and World's End.
klaw - 5/30/2014, 8:41 AM
The three directors known for making We're the Millers, Anchorman, and Zombieland respectively. Three of my favorite movies.
BatzFTWfan - 5/30/2014, 8:42 AM
this movie should get similar to Iron Man, where all people were like, "Who is Iron Man?" and then after they watched the movie, everyone love him. If Ant-Man gets the same direction as Iron Man got with a lesser-known director, it'd be gold.

Three words...Uwe Boll.

LMAO! Miley must have really worked you last night!
m0th3r - 5/30/2014, 8:47 AM
Ruben...Zombieland rocks..but any of these guys i am more comfy with then the inhouse guy they were talking about. Meet the Millers was not bad, and as long as McKay keeps that stupid [frick] Ferrell miles from the movie, im ok.
charlie2094 - 5/30/2014, 8:47 AM
Eh, not really any Edgar Wright's....really not bothered who of those three gets it, lost a lot of interest in it now...
WYLEEJAY - 5/30/2014, 8:47 AM
I liked all three of those films.
ezio619 - 5/30/2014, 8:48 AM
Davinci-yeah, they are known for comedy, so were the Russo Bros who did episodes of Community and Arrested Development and directed"You, Me and Dupree" and they directed a superhero political thriller that is considered by many to be great..even the best marvel studios film so far

i think Ruben Fleischer is the best choice out of the three
BigChuter - 5/30/2014, 8:48 AM
My God. I wish I would have said something earlier, but when I was looking at my blu-ray shelf trying to fan cast a director to replace Wright, Adam McKay was my top pick. He and Paul Rudd could make some magic, and perhaps even make this movie one of Marvel's most unique.
Dinotron - 5/30/2014, 8:48 AM
Watch Antman be a huge hit
m0th3r - 5/30/2014, 8:48 AM
@Davinci Yea, those comedic us crap movies like Cap:TWS...

Comedy is about timing...100%. Comedy > Action is EASY...action is pacing and TIMING....

Lets all say it together now..Ruben, Ruben, Ruben!
ezio619 - 5/30/2014, 8:48 AM
charlie-well there is only one edgar wright...maybe a trailer will get the interest back
LEOSTRATOR - 5/30/2014, 8:50 AM
Forget this movie already.
ezio619 - 5/30/2014, 8:53 AM
i still would love edgar wright to miraculously come back and do it, but thats just wishful thinking but i think ruben fleischer is the best choice out of the three
BatzFTWfan - 5/30/2014, 8:54 AM
@Dinotron: I feel that man, its just interesting every movie with "Man" gets successful, like Iron Man, Batman, Superman, Spider-man expect some like Watchmen. lol And if its opening Phase 3, it should be careful to open the new phase of MCU.
Dinotron - 5/30/2014, 8:54 AM
What if the reason wright left was because Marvel decided for Antman to have a connection with Ultron after all and that wasn't in Wrights vision for the character which would ultimately change a lot of things within the movie.

Because of this total change in the direction of the character weight decided to disband from Marvel
BatzFTWfan - 5/30/2014, 8:55 AM
@Ezio: Wright is still screenplays with another even though he's not the director anymore.
ezio619 - 5/30/2014, 8:56 AM
they are still gonna make this movie because i feel that marvel wanted to include and connect the movie to the MCU more and wright just wanted to make it standalone and it just didnt work out so maybe this film has things in that expand the MCU more
ezio619 - 5/30/2014, 8:56 AM
Batz-yeah,he and joe cornish are still credited for the screenplay
BatzFTWfan - 5/30/2014, 8:58 AM
@Dintron: maybe, it was first Whedon and Feige who announced Ant-Man doesn't have connection with Ultron, and Ultron will have a different storyline, like its creator is Tony Stark. MCU isnt adapting everything that's from Marvel Universe, it changed some things from the real universe, like Thor hasn't his alias aka Donald, but Thor is called Thor Odinson.
SpiderFraud - 5/30/2014, 9:01 AM
I personally don't care for any of them. Hype levels are at 0% now.
soforizo - 5/30/2014, 9:03 AM

I guess we agree yet again. IMO comedy is harder to pull off than action; having a good sense of humor seems more instinctual than anything. While you could always support yourself with a good team of choreographers and stunt team for the action.
Gusto - 5/30/2014, 9:04 AM
LOL...Sofo, no...but, my bartender sure did!!!!!!!
