PEANUTS Animated Film To Open Against ANT-MAN

PEANUTS Animated Film To Open Against ANT-MAN

A release date shift for Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the Peanuts gang's animated movie adaptation of the classic comic strip, has pinned it against Marvel's long-awaited Ant-Man movie!

Pretty much all of Marvel Studios' tentpoles have claimed the number one spot for their opening weekend at the box office. And with Marvel's The Avengers success especially, the forthcoming Phase 2 installments to their ever-growing cinematic universe are expected to do the same.

The Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy movies are the only two on Marvel's slate that're introducing lesser-known titular characters to general audiences. And while the nearest tent-pole to Guardians is Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past, which hits theaters two weeks earlier, Ant-Man's late 2015 release had no real box office competition either, until recently.

It was announced last month that Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang, from Charles M. Schulz's classic comic strip and TV specials, were coming to the big screen. And with 20th Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios reportedly aiming for a animated Peanuts franchise similar to Ice Age's, which has a worldwide total gross of over $2 billion, the studio has apparently moved the film's original November 25, 2015 release date to November 6, 2015.

And that's the very date Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures recently announced they'll release the long-awaited Edgar Wright-directed Ant-Man movie. However, given that Disney will surely be banking off the inevitable success of Marvel's The Avengers sequel, Ant-Man not being a major hit wouldn't be a major loss. Of course, it's far too early to be sure. But, what do you think?

Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers 2” on May 1, 2015; “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015.

the peanuts were born in my home state. always good for a bit of nostalgia

mr. wright is a good director. other than that, i care not for an ant-man movie. ant-man and the galaxy guards are the only new things coming out of phase: sequel

i'm hoping phase: three sounds more exciting

It won't be long before one decides to chicken out, and I'm placing my bets that its going to be Peanuts.

Fox are vastly underestimating the amount of hype Ant-Man will have following Avengers 2. Laugh now, but it'll be no contest come 2015.

"animated Peanuts franchise similar to Ice Age's"

I don't like the sound of that...

Im honestly more interested in Peanuts. Antman is such a lame character

Doubt it'll go up against each other. Marvel's going to move Ant-Man's release date probably to 2015 and push Avengers 2 to 2016. That way they could also have Black Panther in 2015. IDK but I think that's probably what they'll do.

Delusional if you think Antman is the one that's gonna win out between these two. Nobody is gonna care more about a film because its attached to a franchise than they will a family movie about a character that HAS been a worldwide mascot for 3 or 4 generations.

Might they see both? Maybe.

Is Antman known and loved like Snoopy? No.

Could Antman be the next Snoopy? LoL, I don't think that's the director's focus.

Ant-Man has to pack a punch which Edgar Wright films do but your going up against a classic. It would be like Michael Bays Ninja Turtles coming out the same day as a new Flinstones movie
