Its good..i wish they would totally share...It also quells any ideas of rights reverting. Inserting say FF into a long storyline (unless already pre-figured into equation) would be really hard with all the crossover...

I want "Secret Wars"...if you read it..its PERFECT from studio crossover...there is a ton of tension between spiderman, avengers, FF, and Xmen...

You can be like Disney/Marvel and have your whole Cinematic Universe mapped out for years or be like WB/DC who has restored to throwing crap against the wall hoping something other Batman sticks.

I rather be like Marvel.

If it's true that they already have the MCU planned up to 2028 then we can forget about the Spidey, X-Men, and FF rights reverting back.

Its a good idea. It keeps the MCU going at least for now.

@TheAbaryMan369

It doesn't mean those plans are set in stone though. They can change as time goes by, I think it's just a map of where they wanna take the universe.
Abary
Abary - 4/11/2014, 2:54 PM
I mean, what if they did get the rights back? They wouldn't do anything with it. When they got the Daredevil rights back, they planned a Netflix series for a reason. They knew fans wanted to see the character really badly, but they had no room to put him in their MCU lineup. So they made a TV Show with him. So if they got other rights back, they'd either:

1. Never use the characters
2. Make TV Shows with them
3. Mess up all their plans to fit in these new characters.

Abary - 4/11/2014, 2:56 PM
Sure, it may just be a basic idea, but why did he change the times from 2021 to 2028? Most likely because he is planning exactly what to do year by year. Sure it may change, but they probably have a good idea of what they want to do by now and they won't want to change it too much.
Abary
Abary - 4/11/2014, 2:59 PM
I think that's why they aren't trying to get the rights back. Remember when they wanted to get Galactus and Silver Surfer in exchange for Daredevil? It's because they are planning what they want to do and some characters don't fit into those plans. But maybe I'm wrong. We'll just need to wait until they announce more movies.

ComicBooks Fans:

"Wow those Marvel Studios planning so ahead in the future are great, with this the whole industry wins as it inspires competition and better overall quality, the other studios will respond with great movies and great quality so we all the comicbookfans win!!!... what a great time to be a comic book fan!!!"

MarvelStudiosRacists:

"Sony, Fox and WB has zero grasp on whatever comicbook character they adapt to the movies, they all should adore Marvel Studios who can no do wrong in the eyes of the whole world... not watching that crappy Spiderman movie as it is not from MS, the same goes to Fox-men... Dc commies should kill themselves"

its great that they have a vision (no pun) and a basic outline for that much material.

but by the time we get to the phase 4 we'll be in total global economic depression.
when we get to phase 5 we'll all be speaking russian and chinese (if we're still alive after our "re-education" vacation to the luxurious gulags) and we havent been starved out by the feds seizing all assets.
when we get to phase 6 it will be about how phase 1-3 were evil american propganda and will be censored and removed from the collective consciousness.
phase 7 will be the glorification of trans-humanism singularity and celebrate the euthanasia of all surviving humans as they are uploaded into an AI. an artificial program SIMULATING the personalities of people long dead.
making human beings (or rather the top .01% ruling class) the only species to willingly go extinct as the final act of hubris and vanity).

phase 8 wont exist because AI won't care about it anymore.

but then ive always been an optimist.

Better to have your cinematic universe mapped out for another decade and a half than to just throw new characters at one character's sequels and hope they stick.

There is a chance, however slim, that there are firm reversion dates for some of the properties that reside at other studios and they are part of those long-term plans or, more likely, they have plug-and-play options on that schedule for if any of those properties happen to revert along the way (one can only hope). Kind of a "choose your own adventure" (dating myself, I'm sure) method where they could move forward with a pre-planned Nova origin film, for instance, or audible and shift to a Fantastic Four reboot upon finding they have the rights back in hand. Then, in such a scenario, the Nova film would come in as part of a later phase.

I'm sure in the 60's someone thought the spaghetti western genre would go on forever.
In the 80's they thought the brat pack were the stars of the future. Horror and one man army genres probably looked like they would be hot forever.

It's assuming quite a bit to think kids of today and the next few years will still want CBMs in 10-15 years.

The character with a rocket-powered chair could also be Kang the Conqueror.

maninfinesuit - 4/11/2014, 3:48 PM
@Thegeekygurl A reasonable argument, but comic book movies have steadily been coming out since the late eighties, and costumed heroes have been popular with kids since forever ago. I don't think it's taking much of a gamble to keep planning these films.

McN beat me to it, but as one who writes business plans, I can assure you that successful businesses know that they have to adapt to change on many different levels. You just don't stick with a plan if you have opportunities or threats that present themselves. You adapt and adjust your plan. Getting the rights back to Spidey, X-men and/or FF would definitely be an opportunity that they wouldn't squander away.

It's probably Thanos and surely it's not MODOK. AIM hasn't had much of a presence in the movies outside of IM3. Hopefully that changes with Ant-man. Seeing them in their iconic hazmat suits on screen would be so awesome!
The only character that I can think of off the top of my head that fits that bill outside of Thanos is Kang the Conqueror but does Marvel own the rights or do they share the rights with Fox because of FF? I'd think that they don't own/share the rights but then again I wouldn't have thought Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch would have been shared properties a few years ago either. I wish Marvel would publish a list of exactly who they own/share the rights to.

Not a fan of "the plan" but it's what should be expected. I mean I don't side one way or another with DC or Marvel, so no one jump on me when I make this statement. But I did absolutely love Nolan's Batman movies, but I was glad that it was only going to be 3. I would have loved for Snyder and company to leave batman out of the Man of Steel movie. I mean Disney knows what they are doing, I don't think they will necessarily run anything into the ground, but I like the idea of movies having a story arc, tell the story, and be done with it for a while. I love a show like Breaking Bad that can end at its best moment, instead of something like the x-files that just wouldn't quit (both had Vince Gilligan to blame for their success/meandering). Anyway just a thought, I've enjoyed the Marvel movies but at some point just tell your story and be done for a bit. I think Marvel has failed to create a cohesive story running through their universe, and have massively failed or misused villains (nolan did it as well with Bane). Red Skull was a waste as was the Mandarin. Loki worked, they should have centered the story there and spread it across the properties as they did in the Avengers and called it a day for a bit. But I guess you gotta keep something rolling as long as it's making money and making people happy. More power to them. It got me Daredevil back on screen, so I guess I'm not complaining to much.
