COMICS: Marvel Announces AVENGERS: RAGE OF ULTRON Original Graphic Novel For 2015

The comic that Avengers: Age of Ultron is named after was pretty terrible, so Marvel have other plans for the titular villain in the pages of their comic books next April. Hit the jump for details and artwork from the Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña original graphic novel...

Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña received almost unanimous critical acclaim for their run on Uncanny X-Force and they will be reteaming next year for original graphic novel, Avengers: Rage of Ultron. The book was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con today and is being lined up for an April 2015 release to coincide with Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is set in continuity, and Remender was quick to point out how excited he is to be reteaming with Opeña and colourist Dean White. "Jerome is a nutjob. He's a lunatic. I've been working with him for a decade, and it's so great to be back with him. The storytelling comes first, and the absolute labor he puts into it. An OGN is perfect for him. It's literally the work of his life, and to be teamed back up with Jerome and Dean is so great." Will you guys be picking this up next year?

"In continuity"?

Does that mean 616 or 199999?
JordanKing - 7/24/2014, 5:45 PM
woooow, how long did it take for them to come up with that shocking title?
ALmazing - 7/24/2014, 5:48 PM
Arts looks amazing, looks like Cap, can't tell whether it is Sam or Steve, is going back to his classic look again.
clement445 - 7/24/2014, 5:50 PM
awesome this is such a great title cough sarcasm cough
ATrueHero1987 - 7/24/2014, 5:53 PM
I heard their last GN that came out his year(or was it last year?) was OK.
IAmNotGr00t - 7/24/2014, 5:55 PM
So we will have Falcon Cap at least until April next year...hmm
StarkAnthony - 7/24/2014, 5:55 PM
Classic Cap uniform, but from the ear it appears to be Sam. Could just be the lighting. I think they'll give Sam at least a year as Cap, and they could even keep Sam as Cap around the release on Avengers 2 since movie viewers will know Sam from Cap 2 and it wouldn't be that hard to follow
IAmNotGr00t - 7/24/2014, 5:56 PM
I'm guessing this will put the recent Thor, Cap, Hulk and Iron Man news back to the way it is currently.
ThePowerCosmic - 7/24/2014, 6:03 PM
Age of Ultron was far from terrible. I thought it was pretty damn good!
ATrueHero1987 - 7/24/2014, 6:10 PM
Whoops my bad, the GN I'm talking about wasn't written by Remender, it was Endless Wartime by Warren Ellis. I might check this depends.
Kong - 7/24/2014, 6:12 PM

You see Cap's ear...? That's a black ear!!!
PymParticle - 7/24/2014, 6:13 PM
Well well well, is that Carol Danvers being saved by Captain America?

There we go.
CapitanAmerika2 - 7/24/2014, 6:49 PM
@ThePowerCosmic: Age of Ultron could have been waaaaay better than it was. I didn't like the whole traveling back and forth in time for it took away attention away from Ultron. I would've liked it better if they just focused on the Avengers' battle with him in the future.

I think Avengers: Age of Ultron is actually a very loose adaptation of the comic that is twisted so much that it is far superior to the comic.

And yes I will be getting this comic. I've been wondering where he had disappeared to.
dapug88 - 7/24/2014, 6:55 PM
So I guess iron man won't be superior and Thor will get the sex change reversed for this. L

MercSoul - 7/24/2014, 7:22 PM
....i hope that they dont make a piece of sh** like it was age of ultron
TheBrotherhood - 7/24/2014, 7:33 PM
They just added an R, if you know what I mean.
jimjim - 7/24/2014, 7:33 PM
yeah that age of ultron mini series by Brian Michael Bendis was trash. so this next ultron event has to be better.
CinemaHero - 7/24/2014, 8:01 PM
Are you serious? I was going to make a fan film called "Rage of Ultron"! Hahahaha! I never seriously thought Marvel would actually use a name like that...
Ramiel - 7/24/2014, 8:24 PM

Looks like Steve Rogers returns as Cap next year. Good news.
huckfinnisher - 7/24/2014, 8:40 PM
Uuuh i thought ultron got permafried after hank time traveling at the end of aou? If not then what was the point of that?
drlevin - 7/24/2014, 8:55 PM
Probably is set in the past.
LittleDanglyThing - 7/24/2014, 10:07 PM
Age of Ultron was a really disappointing comic and I doubt the movie can possibly be worse than that.
ChiliConCarney - 7/24/2014, 10:46 PM
From Age of Ultron to Rage of Ultron... Do I smell some sequels???

Cage of Ultron
Minimum Wage of Ultron
_____ Mage of Ultron (could just be Mage [or Sage] but you could specialize Arcane, Fire or Frost or any other type of Mage...)
Tire Gauge of Ultron
Kenneth the Page of Ultron
Dunejedi - 7/24/2014, 10:46 PM
Sick. Remender/Opena are basically the Claremont/Byrne of the modern age. They could do a Josie and the Pussycats comic and I would be salivating until I got my grubby mitts on it.
Makiveli21 - 7/25/2014, 12:12 AM
Your all so.... ah i cant... just because it fits into continuity, doesnt mean that its CURRENT continuity. Its steve rogers as cap, not falcon. Because this is a story that happend before current continuity. And its not a comic book. Its a graphic novel.
Equivocal - 7/25/2014, 1:49 AM
SageMode - 7/25/2014, 2:29 AM
Remender and Opeña together on this? Count me in.
MattSpatola - 7/25/2014, 5:24 AM
Remender has said story takes place in the present and in the past, during the Roger Stern/John Byrne era of Avengers. So we have flashbacks to then- with Steve as Cap and then we will be in the current time as well.,
Alfredo27 - 7/25/2014, 8:21 AM
I bet he has all that rage because of how bad Age of Ultron was.
TheAbomination - 7/25/2014, 9:58 AM
Seems like a good promotional move. Just hope it doesn't suck like Age of Ultron.
ScionStorm - 7/25/2014, 2:31 PM
Opena on a full GN. An Avengers GN? Awesome. Age of Ultron was a complete waste of time. This is inevitable better than that.
