Jeremy Renner Shares Funny Chris Evans AVENGERS Story And Comments On AGE OF ULTRON

Recalling what Captain America star Chris Evans had to undergo for The Avengers' Shawarma scene, Jeremy Renner explains pressure he felt about playing Hawkeye and teases bigger Age of Ultron part.

Oh dude, I have the funniest one, said Jeremy Renner to Variety when asked if he had any funny stories about Captain America: The Winte Soldier star Chris Evans. I don’t know if I can say. When I think about it every time, I love it. The coda scene that happens at the end of The Avengers, we shot it at the premiere, when we were all together. A year had gone by, and Chris was in the middle of doing another movie, where he had a full beard and he couldn’t shave it off. He continued, “They had to do all these prosthetics over his face. The poor guy, he was in a chair for like four hours just for this three-second scene. He looked awful. He looked like his face was melting. Imagine if you have to put prosthetics over a thick beard, he looked like he got stung by a bee. The names that [Robert] Downey Jr. and everybody came up with. He couldn’t even laugh. It was really quite frustrating, I’m sure. No [you don't see the prosthetics], it’s a wide shot of the whole group at the Shawarma place. We left the premiere, jumped in costume and Chris had to go into makeup for so long to cover that dang beard.”

Like Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner says he, too, felt pressure when Marvel offered him the role of Clint Barton. “You know where that leads you, the amount of time and commitment,” said the actor of where pressure comes from. “You start to step into franchise-land and superhero land. It’s kind of terrifying when you’re an actor. It’s a huge commitment. But I’m glad I did it. All the actors are so awesome, I love them. That’s the main reason I want to keep going back. We all go through the same trials together. We’re definitely a Bad News Bears team.”

As Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon, and Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. have delcared recently, Hawkeye will have a much bigger role in Age of Ultron than he did in the original 2012 superhero assembly. “I can’t give you any details, but yeah, there seems to be more to do this time; I’m excited about that,” he said. Asked if all the costumes are made of the same material, Renner said: “Kind of and kind of not. It all shifts. Even from Captain America to Avengers, they worked their way through looking great and functioning great. I have one of the easiest costumes compared to the other guys, Chris Evans being one of the [harder ones]. The cowl on his head, any time you put it on, the thing gave him a migraine. It hit weird pressure points. But you have to work out the details to have it look great and function great. I feel like my costume might be changing a little bit for [Age of Ultron] Who knows man? As long as the pants don’t split in the crotch, I’m alright. I think it’s happened to all of us. You’re like, ’Ok, we’ve got to take a break. I’ve got a hole where it shouldn’t be.’”

Very excited for this.
HavocPrime - 3/28/2014, 3:16 PM
This is why he had his hand covering his face with a few of them barely keeping it together

The scene would have been better if Banner was Hulk.
niceguyeddie - 3/28/2014, 3:25 PM
I remember Chris Evans told the story about the beard cover up way back on the Doug Loves Movies podcast but I don't think any one here picked up on that.
MrCBM56 - 3/28/2014, 3:25 PM
Such a cool dude. I'm so glad he has a bigger role, and I'm guessing this interview is pre-avengers 2 filming? Either way, can't wait to seem him in the role again!
ruadh - 3/28/2014, 3:35 PM
My wife was actually asking me about that scene the other, and I'd known about the beard. I believe he's also got a wig on, but I think he always did in Avengers.

I think this is actually the first time I've ever read an interview with Renner...kinda made me like him more. The cast of Avengers is a really solid group of people, aside from being great performers.
DrDoom - 3/28/2014, 3:56 PM
Very glad to see Hawkeye getting more screen time as well as looking better than ever.
SuperSomething616 - 3/28/2014, 4:00 PM
Wow if I Jeremy hadnt brought this up would not have known...honestly...
datNAMEtho - 3/28/2014, 4:15 PM
I don't like Renner and I thought the whole shawarma thing was incredibly stupid.
Scarilian - 3/28/2014, 4:20 PM
Why are the least interesting characters getting more screen time? Black Widow and Hawkeye and now two rejects from the X-men universe? Give us Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Ms Marvel, [frick]ing anything other than MCU Hawkeye and Black Widow!
MikesPants - 3/28/2014, 4:24 PM
It's Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian sized bite right at the end that completely kills me in that scene.
thalidomide - 3/28/2014, 4:32 PM
I'm glad Hawkeye has a bigger role on the sequel.
TheAbomination - 3/28/2014, 4:38 PM
I read about Chris Evans' beard during the shawarma scene last year. Does anybody know why he couldn't just grab a razor and quickly shave it off? Was he shooting another movie at the time or something?
Mastyrwerk - 3/28/2014, 4:39 PM
@Nomis Toll Free

Everybody likes the Shwarma scene. It's a great aftermath moment.
Kurne - 3/28/2014, 4:56 PM

People were complaining about Hawkeye and Black Widow being in Avengers instead of Ant-Man and Wasp, then an Ant-Man movie was announced and the character became "lame".

People were complaining about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch being in Avengers 2 instead of Ms. Marvel, but when she was rumored to have a role in the film, people said it was "overcrowded" and "wasn't right" and that she needed her own movie instead.

People wanted a Doctor Strange movie, and when a Strange movie was announced they called Marvel racist and demanded Black Panther... :/
FearTheLiving - 3/28/2014, 4:59 PM
Hawkeye's my favorite Avenger, so him getting more of a chance to shine in the sequel I'm all for. I really hope at some point he gets into a team-up movie (like Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and Cap 2 or Falcon in Cap 2) that Thor cameo was cool, but we really need to see him interacting with another hero. Hell give him a Hawkeye and Mockingbird movie.
Destined - 3/28/2014, 5:11 PM
@TheAbomination yes, it says in the article he was in the middle of filming another movie, which was probably Snowpiercer. He couldn't shave it. It's bolded in this article. That's so funny people just realizing that about Chris in this scene. That info been out.
jp688 - 3/28/2014, 5:29 PM
Hey, CBN - are we done with that fricking Dodge Ram truck ad yet? Holy CRAP that thing is invasive!!!!
TheRen - 3/28/2014, 5:50 PM
@jp688 tell me about man. I will never buy a dodge truck because of that sneaky ad.
Greengo - 3/28/2014, 5:50 PM
Such a cool dude.
jjd585 - 3/28/2014, 6:06 PM
@Scarilian Hawkeye, Black Widow, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch are all classic Avengers characters. They have every right to put these characters in Avengers movies. I think you should study up on your comic book history before you make stupid comments.
NBAfanaddict - 3/28/2014, 6:19 PM
Seems like Hawkeye is spending a lot of time with Wanda. Wonder if he's going to be the one to turn her and QS to the Avengers side. Would make sense given that he (along with them and Cap) made part of the "Cap's Kooky Quartet" stage of the Avengers.
AnakinsTwin - 3/28/2014, 6:19 PM
Great story

Yahoo, more PURPLE in HAWKEYE's Costume!!
SuperCat - 3/28/2014, 6:21 PM
Had no idea he had a beard during that scene.
figuresmaniac - 3/28/2014, 6:46 PM
Go Hawkeye !
MightyZeus - 3/28/2014, 7:51 PM
I like his attire with out the long jacket.
655321 - 3/28/2014, 8:29 PM
I blinked for a second and almost thought that photo with the mask was real. The color doen't match the costume. I really wish they give him a msk, but I dont think it will happen. Kinda like wolverine never getting one.
furyanhunter - 3/28/2014, 8:43 PM
I bet u die before u see the day they ever truly kill one of their heroes -_-. Just wouldn't make sense.
RolandD - 3/28/2014, 8:55 PM
Funny about the beard. Would be fun to see a clear picture of Cap looking like he got stung by a bee. Frankly I'm fine with the choice of heroes for the Avengers 1. I always thougth Ant Man was lame. I liked Pym more as Giant Man or Yellow Jacket.

I wonder if Pietro will be as abrasive as in the comics. He should be, although I never liked him as a character because of it. Could make for some good conflict.
Bluntman - 3/28/2014, 8:57 PM
Almost got me with that mask pic
mgeoff88 - 3/28/2014, 9:08 PM
Jeremy Renner seems like a cool guy.

I'm happy Hawkeye will have a bigger role in TA:AOU. He is an underrated Avenger.

@Kurne Lol! That chair isn't Hulk-proof.

"I’ve got a hole where it shouldn’t be."

I said the same goddamned thing when I woke up that foggy morning in Gusto's Subterranean Love Palace and Petting Zoo after those two Roofie Coladas, smelling of camel sweat, sloth jizz, and having this strange ache in my groinocological region!!

Gusto, you SUCK.

But dammit, NEXT time, not so HARD...I ain't Miley, even though you fitted be for that twerking aardvark suit!
