Joss Whedon On How THE AVENGERS Prepared Him For AGE OF ULTRON

Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon discusses how his experience prepping and filming 2012's The Avengers has prepared him for the sequel. "I want to be clearer about how I engage the audience, where I take them."

Avengers Age of Ultron Joss Whedon
Here's another snippet from the extensive Entertainment Weekly discussion with "it" director of the moment, Joss Whedon. Inside the magazine's pages, Whedon touches on what filming The Avengers taught him and how he'll apply those lessons in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Said the geek icon, "I want to be clearer about how I engage the audience, and where I take them. I want more control visually, more time to prep it. Not that I didn't dictate every shot - I did. But there's only so much you can do when you're making a summer film when the ball is already rolling as fast as it was when I got in. Why do it again if you can't do it better?"

On looking back at his 2012 smash hit, Whedon reflected, "I don't think you'd look at it and go, 'This is a model of perfect structure.' You'd go, 'This is working.' I like it. I'm proud of it and I like its imperfections. The thing I cared about most - making a summer movie like the ones from my childhood - is the thing I pulled off."

You can read more from Whedon in the latest edition of EW, available on newsstands now.

All Hail Joss!!!

Lol, i love Joss's talent, and I love the character-driven way he does everything. He's definitely the right man for the job.

Bring on Ultron!

marvel fans should be so happy they have a great director who actually wrote comics............... it shows

gmoney0505 - 8/26/2013, 11:48 AM
Have a story that is better than some of the EMH stories from the cartoon because that was a shit story for 5 years of buildup
SageMode - 8/26/2013, 11:48 AM
CBM of 2015. Can't wait to see set pics and footage for this.
Grayson7954 - 8/26/2013, 11:50 AM
Just cause its not as "big" doesnt mean cant be better, it can easily be better without having something top an alien invasion, that doesnt dictate better storytelling, i say this to the soley visually stimulated fanboys
MarvelWeiner - 8/26/2013, 11:50 AM
Visually, it can be WAY better than the first...
ndwwrestler2 - 8/26/2013, 11:52 AM
I'm gonna predict he kills off Stark in this one.
anthonyEstark - 8/26/2013, 11:52 AM
After seeing it again last night, I saw that Jarvis is getting too smart. He's acting too much like Ultron.
anthonyEstark - 8/26/2013, 11:53 AM
@ndw I don't think so. Downey is comin' back for A3 also.
DioFoRio - 8/26/2013, 11:53 AM
for coming in late writing while filming and scrapping the script that came before it...Not a bad job mr Whedon! Fave CBM numero uno.
ndwwrestler2 - 8/26/2013, 11:54 AM
You know it would be interesting if this took place in a post apocalypse New Your after Ultron has taken over.

It's not gonna happen, but it would be sick (in a good way) if they went that route.
ndwwrestler2 - 8/26/2013, 11:54 AM
@anthonyEstark Heroes come back from the dead all the time.
knocturnalzen10 - 8/26/2013, 11:56 AM
I wonder what his wonderwoman script was like ?
ndwwrestler2 - 8/26/2013, 11:57 AM
@MrSundayNight Wash was everyone's favorite character off Firefly (besides Mel), and Wheadon obviously didn't give a damn.
thewolveRAYne - 8/26/2013, 11:57 AM
Enough of Joss giving two cents every day about A2. Just go make it and come back when you have some video to show.
superotherside - 8/26/2013, 12:00 PM
Can't wait. Hope he gives Pym a reference in building the brains of Ultron at least. I don't mind Stark building the robots or integrating him into Shield's OS or something but I'd like Pym to get at least a mention.
TheAbomination - 8/26/2013, 12:02 PM
When this film is released, the MCU will surpass the Harry Potter movies as the highest grossing franchise of all time.
thewonderer - 8/26/2013, 12:03 PM
As the one person who thought Avengers was merely okay, please step up your game Joss.
Azazel1 - 8/26/2013, 12:03 PM
Let's hope it is indeed better than the first one...

Most overatted CBM of all time...

@Manofreel-Actually I think Joss Wheedon is more scared of Days of Future Past then he is Batman and Superman...
MrCBM56 - 8/26/2013, 12:08 PM
Avatar is probably going to be more anticipated by the GA than this

Are you [frick]ing crazy?! Cameron's Avatar hype is gone. The general audience probably doesn't know a sequel is even coming out.
ndwwrestler2 - 8/26/2013, 12:08 PM
Star Wars Episode 7, Superman vs Batman, and The Avengers :Age of Ultron.

I think we can rightfully declare 2015: The year of the nerds.
