Joss Whedon Says Scarlet Witch Won't Have Her Traditional Costume In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Joss Whedon Says Scarlet Witch Won't Have Her Traditional Costume In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

No familiar headgear for Scarlet Witch in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" says Joss Whedon. However, the director and screenwriter does say her look will be a blend of both the 616 and Ultimate Marvel Universe.

Some comic book characters keep their traditional look when they make the leap to the big screen and others have a complete overhaul. It's too early to say where Scarlet Witch will fall on that line in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" but one thing's for sure, she won't have that weird headpiece. When asked specifically about it, director and screenwriter Joss Whedon (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Avengers) stated, "No. She might wear a headband or something that might echo it. The guys at Marvel, the conceptual artists, are phenomenal, and they are so good at taking the essence of what works and interpreting it for the actual human body, and when they paint something you can not only tell how it’s gonna work on a person, you can even tell what fabric it’ll be. They are very specific, very talented. So I’m excited to see the designs. Obviously we want to echo the look that people know, but there’s the classic look and the Ultimates look, but you have to do it in a way that will work. But it can’t be too old school… she can’t wear a leotard."

It remains to be seen just how much the character's look will be changed. However, if you polled comic book fans on the best costumes, Scarlett Witch's name would be at the bottom while characters such as Captain America and Thor would be at the top. Hence, those two are wearing costumes straight from the pages of Marvel Comics while the Scarlet Witch undergoes a redesign.

Did anyone think she would wear the old costume?

Glad they will update it a bit. But hope they don't use the one from Ultimates either it was terrible.
LEVITIKUZ - 7/24/2013, 1:19 PM
I love being right. I told all of you, it was only a matter of time before y'all hate on Whedon.

History repeats itself with CBM fans.

You fanboys hated on Nolan, Donner, Jon Fareau, Burton, Singer, and Raimi.

Now Whedon joins that club.

Smh at fanboys.
TheSuperguy - 7/24/2013, 1:21 PM
Whatever happens is fine with me. I don't go to an Avengers movie for Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver.
ForeverPowerful - 7/24/2013, 1:21 PM

JDUKE25 - 7/24/2013, 1:23 PM
It'll look stupid.
ForeverPowerful - 7/24/2013, 1:23 PM
Captain America wears his costume to be a symbol of America.

Spiderman wears his because he's a [frick]ing kid and he wants to stand out but keep his identity a secret.

Batman wore black armor to take a beating and to blend into the night.

Why would she ever need to wear that? Ever?
simpleman - 7/24/2013, 1:24 PM
Does anyone hate this decision? No? Neither do I. That outfit would look silly anyway.
sameoldthing - 7/24/2013, 1:26 PM
Costume WILL BE RED...SCARLET is part of her name.
Need actress with nice T&A please..comic chicks are sexy.
Himura - 7/24/2013, 1:27 PM

I could never turn my back on Whedon. He gave me some of my favorite TV shows of all time and I'm glad he's finally at this point where people actually care about the decisions he makes.
JDUKE25 - 7/24/2013, 1:27 PM

I'm surprised Singer didn't announce her for DOFP too.
FirstAvenger - 7/24/2013, 1:29 PM
I don't think anybody thought she was gonna wear that.
LEVITIKUZ - 7/24/2013, 1:31 PM

True true, but when we have Marvel fans on this site saying Whedon can eat a bag of dicks, there is trouble in paradise.

I wonder when will CBM fans evolve.
TTT0809 - 7/24/2013, 1:31 PM
Costume probably won't make such a big difference to the film. (haters gonna hate)
OT: BTW LEVI, why's no one on chat?
maryboo - 7/24/2013, 1:32 PM
I love how Marvel fanboys blindly accept any changes Marvel Studios make but will throw a fit if it's Fox, Sony, or WB.

Make Tony the creator of Ultron instead of Pym? OKAY!

Give the Joker make up instead of tossing him into a vat chemicals? NOLAN RUINED THE JOKER! NOT ACCURATE TO SOURCE MATERIAL!

BruceLeroy - 7/24/2013, 1:33 PM
Good. The headpiece would look corny as hell on the big screen.
kevberg - 7/24/2013, 1:35 PM

Maybe he's falling into the trap of Directors being arrogant after the first movie is a success and then thinking that they have more leeway to change stuff.

Although this SW costume thing isn't a huge deal...not like the Hank Pym / Ultron thing.
Ocelot - 7/24/2013, 1:35 PM
Would have looked stupid in live action just like how Wonder Woman's costume would.
Ocelot - 7/24/2013, 1:36 PM
Wouldn't be able to take it seriously at all!.
kevberg - 7/24/2013, 1:37 PM
Its not like anyone expects pietros costume to be a baby blue unitard with a huge white lightning bolt...but the design can take ELEMENTS from those.
BruceLeroy - 7/24/2013, 1:42 PM
The folks trying to make this a problem must've been pissed when Whedon didn't give Hawkeye his old costume.
Mechagino - 7/24/2013, 1:42 PM
Wait... Why does batz11's picture come from epic

If you ask me, it's epic win.
ATrueHero1987 - 7/24/2013, 1:43 PM
Yea, i'm not surprised and I'm fine with this.
CherryBomb - 7/24/2013, 1:44 PM
I'm okay with this, the costume is great for comics but it wouldn't look good on screen.
I hope they go with the Ultimate costumes for SW and QS!

superotherside - 7/24/2013, 1:44 PM
LEVITIKUZ Some have always hated on Marvel. I remember people saying The Avengers looked like Transformers. So yeah. Trolls will be trolls no matter what it is or what movie it is.
ABLEE337 - 7/24/2013, 1:44 PM
@ batz11
Spideyshawn - 7/24/2013, 1:45 PM
so no antman!
(still time) but is black panther in this universe!
New ultron origin
Non mutant quicksilver & Wanda
no coulson explanation
-__- Faith in the film but come on.
jcfrommars9 - 7/24/2013, 1:46 PM

Exactly. Personally I don't give a damn if they have Scarlet Witch in plain clothes as long as the character is accurate.
Danbojohnj - 7/24/2013, 1:46 PM
If you don't have faith in the source material then you shouldn't bother.
kingshnake - 7/24/2013, 1:48 PM
I dreamt yesterday that I watched the reboot of Fantastic Four but it was made up of Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Iron Fist and DC's Booster Gold XD sorry for the randomness lol
CherryBomb - 7/24/2013, 1:49 PM
How cool would it be to see this:

I hope Joss just doesn't give her the power of "magic". I hope he focuses on her Probability Manipulation, that's what I liked about Ultimate SW, her powers were more thought-out with the mathematics and it was pretty cool.
CherryBomb - 7/24/2013, 1:49 PM

@Kingschnake WOW, that sounds amazing haha!
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 7/24/2013, 1:51 PM
@Batz Wow that first pic you posted has so much photoshop done to her waist haha.
MarvelWeiner - 7/24/2013, 1:51 PM
lol Whedon is doing something right...
PeterDarker - 7/24/2013, 1:51 PM
@LEVI, exactly who is hating? And how did you come up with that after only three post (agreeing with Whedon) that hatred would occur? That's fantastic. That's very "Derren Brown" of you. Whedon knows what he's doing. I'll make Billions of dollars. He's right. You're wrong. MMM.
WinterAvenger - 7/24/2013, 1:53 PM
If it still has the cape then yea if not then shame
Amazing512 - 7/24/2013, 1:53 PM
This really isn't that big of deal. Anybody whose ready to freak out should grow a pair of balls first
AverageDrafter - 7/24/2013, 1:54 PM

Seriously. Save it. I like saying Wimple.
LEVITIKUZ - 7/24/2013, 1:54 PM

In Avengers 1, Whedon did that movie fairly simple and faithful. I've often felt that the Avengers storyline is similar to Ghostbusters in a while. Either way Whedon make a CBM fairly close to the source while keeping the comic book fans and audience happy and entertained.

So for the sequel, Whedon comes up with his own story. One that is not as faithful as the first but one he believes can be as good as the first.

Whedon just gave us one of the biggest [frick]ing CBM's of all time. Why doubt him? Why question him?

He gave you a film close to the source material, now let him do a film showing more of his creative knowledge than sticking to source material.

If you want the movie just like the source material THAN READ THE [frick]ING BOOK!!!!!!!!! DON'T TURN IT INTO THE [frick]ING MOVIE WORD FOR WORD, THING FOR THING, IDEA FOR IDEA AND ALL THAT!!!
davidwiz - 7/24/2013, 1:56 PM
i hate the trend in comic book movies that costumes have to be looking like what real people would wear. i wanna see half naked women, all you guys suck thinking it has to look real and be taken seriously. oh, so sorry, just pissed. you guys dont suck lol
LEVITIKUZ - 7/24/2013, 1:56 PM

I got nothing against Whedon. Love the man and his work.

That was directed at dumbasses on this site with the Avengers 2 news.
