UPDATE 2: Vague First AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Footage Highlights Revealed

UPDATE 2: Vague First AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Footage Highlights Revealed

The first footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron was screened again, but this time we have very brief and quite vague descriptions of what was shown, which includes new behind-the-scenes tidbits!

It was reported last month that Disney has screened the first footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron at the CineEurope convention, but sadly none of the lucky viewers had described, or even hinted at, what they saw. Well, it appears Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige brought that footage to the United Kingdom where he was holding a preview and Q&A for Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanks to both Geek Syndicate and Film3Sixty, we have some vague details of that Age of Ultron sneak peek.
The footage showed a foretaste of the action-packed sequel, including a sneak-peak at Iron Man’s Hulkbuster battling The Hulk, and our first look at Avengers Tower, which houses the heroes, including labs for Stark and Dr. Banner. Director Joss Whedon described Avengers Tower as his – and the cast’s – favourite set yet. The short clip also showed off the globetrotting locations being used, including South Korea, Italy and our very own United Kingdom. About two minutes of footage were shown. The Avengers Tower's interior looks Amazing and is very S.H.I.E.L.D. like but with a Tony Stark spin. Shot of Captain America on a Motorbike. Quinjets on display at Avengers Tower. Saw Quicksilver in action running (but not a superspeed).Saw some animatronics of Hulk vs a Hulkbuster

UPDATE: Now thanks to Radio Times, we have more detailed description of the Avengers: Age of Ultron footage, which Kevin Feige said will "probably" never be shown again. "Also sighted were new brother sister duo Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Scarlet has mysterious reality warping powers (in the footage this mostly involved making some blocks float around) while Quicksilver can run really, really fast (although without the special effects, it was more of a light jog). Scarlet Witch was shown fighting alongside Hawkeye on a ruined Italian street, but earlier in the reel both she and her brother were locked in fancy Perspex prison cells. Designed by Stark out of the ruins of his New York penthouse, The Avengers Tower has floor to ceiling windows, twin laboratories for Stark and Bruce Banner, and parking for supersonic jets. It’s reminiscent of the SHIELD helicarrier in terms of construction, with lots of shiny metal pillars."

UPDATE 2: The Flickering Myth has now provided their quick rundown of what was shown: "Tony Stark holding Loki’s stick from The Avengers. A scene in Africa with Captain America and Black Widow on a motorway. Pre-visuals of Hulk vs. Hulk Buster Iron Man (Joss Whedon said this was the first thing he wanted to have in the movie). Joss talking about the Avengers Tower set being “the most beautiful he’s ever worked on."

Expect some of what is described above and so much more to be shown at San Diego Comic-Con next week during Marvel Studios' big Hall H panel, which takes place next Saturday. If promotion leading up to the convention is anything like Marvel/Disney's previous efforts, expect some official Avengers: Age of Ultron conceptual artwork or maybe a first teaser poster. What do you think?

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.

Talking about the film, Feige pointed out that, unlike characters such as Captain America or Iron Man, audiences would be less familiar with Guardians Of The Galaxy. This being the case, their choice of actor for the central character, Quill, was essential. Discussing the casting of Pratt (who is best-known for NBC’s Parks And Recreations, as well as having been cast in Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World), Feige said, “We knew that the movie would either work or fail based on who we cast as Peter Quill. His character, who is surrounded by talking raccoons, trees, green women and hulking maniacs, is what links and grounds the audience.” He went on to add, “We did elaborate screen tests for our star. I think we saw a dozen, superb, well-known actors. Chris didn’t initially want to come in because he was in Parks And Recreation shape, but his was the most dynamic and charismatic audition we saw, and he gave us that feeling. We have a high barometer now, we have Downey, Hemsworth, Ruffalo, Evans, Johansson, and when we are bringing someone into the universe, that’s a high bar. Sometimes you find yourself thinking, “Yeah, that might work,” but what you want to feel is, “That’s the guy, go get him!” And it wasn’t until Chris came in that we got that feeling.”

As well as this, Feige discussed another of the film’s central characters, Rocket. “He was always going to be a digital character, but wouldn’t be a cartoon character in any way, shape or form, and we knew that the amazing artists at the VFX companies Framestore and MPC would do an amazing job and make him look like a photo-real creature. There were a lot of early auditions of voice actors, and it felt that, under the surface, there was an acknowledgement that it was an animated character. We wanted a character who was great and who wouldn’t play it like a cartoon.” He went on to add, “We had a walk-cycle, which is a 3D rendering where you could see how the character would walk and see how the lighting changes as you move 360 degrees around it. We had this 3D model and we would take great monologues from films and put them against the walk cycle. We did it with Bradley’s scene with Robert Di Nero from Silver Linings Playbook (2012), and there was something about that was very exciting about it for us. We reached out, and the screenplay and James Gunn won him over.”

Whilst bringing a talking raccoon to life was a challenge, it was nothing compared to doing the same for a walking, talking tree, who only says three words. “Groot is very important to James and very important to us. Even though he is a tree-like creature, and only says three words, it was very important that at the beginning of the movie it is funny, even a little ridiculous, and then as the movie progresses you start to understand what he means and you see the differences in the inflections. By the end of the movie, hopefully you will be emotionally attached to him and things that happen at the end of the movie will have you welling up. We needed an actor who could do that. It occurred to me that many years ago Vin (Diesel) did an awesome voice-over job on The Iron Giant (1999) and I was thinking about the similarities between the Iron Giant and Groot. Vin loved the idea, and he took it very seriously, and he made James write out what Groot actually means when he is saying those three words, “I am Groot.”

I just noticed that Joss Whedon is the only writer on this.

Scarlet Witch manipulates Banner to Hulk out. The rumor er whatever stated that he believes a Leviathan (because of SW) is alive and wigs out because of it.

Look at the eyes of the concept art, when Ultron overrides suits, the eyes usually turn red.. right? lol.

I hope they try to explain Extremis better and say Stark's "PTSD" was the reason Extremis was able to destroy the suits so easy.

Because if Extremis can destroy the suits, Hulk should have no problem crushing them all, including hulkbuster.
ComicsBornAndBred - 7/15/2014, 9:13 AM
I'm kinda scared for QS. I never feared that Singer's version would suck. Aaron Taylor Johnson is an on and off actor. He's good in Kick Ass but a film like Godzilla, he was wooden as shit. Idk if he can do QS justice. And the costume scares me. I trust Wheson but his costume history is meh. His Cap costume in Avengers was poop. Russos showed him how to do it with Cap 2. So....we'll see. Whedon get em
