Derek Luke To Reprise Captain America 'Gabe Jones' Role In The Avengers!

Derek Luke To Reprise Captain America 'Gabe Jones' Role In The Avengers!

Actor Derek Luke, whose portraying 'Gabe Jones' in Marvel & Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger film will reportedly reprise the role in The Avengers. Check it out!

Well-known for his role in Antwone Fisher, actor Derek Luke's appearance in Marvel & Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger film as 'Gabriel Jones' was revealed when the actor's name was spotted on an official poster. While hes lacked Captain America promotion, a possible reason for that has been offhandedly mentioned via Variety, which essentially highlighted the actor's upcoming Seeking a Friend film.

Luke will soon be seen as Gabe Jones in "Captain America," a role he'll reprise in "Marvel's The Avengers."

So could Derek Luke's lack of Captain America promotion be that he'll rather have a cameo in the film, presumably in the present-day bookends, and will play 'Gabriel Jones' fully-on in Joss Whedon's crossover spectacle The Avengers? Could the opening of The Avengers film actually be Captain America's WW2 setting? Could he actually be playing 'Gabe Jones Jr?' With endless possibilities, What do you think?

Via Wiki - Gabe Jones appeared as a regular cast-member in virtually every issue and annual of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos. In present-day stories, initially in the feature "Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." in Strange Tales, he appears as an agent of that fictional espionage organization — inexplicably aged very little, like fellow WWII vet and agent Dum Dum Dugan, despite a retcon explanation for agency head Nick Fury's youthfulness. As a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Jones has appeared in issues of The Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, the first two volumes of Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the 1988 miniseries Nick Fury vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston & Stellan Skarsgård, the film releases May 4, 2012!

Great find @dcmf
ComicsCommando - 5/12/2011, 7:19 PM
He must be pretty important in Captain America. I'm guessing he'll be Cap's connection from his movie.
Ironbat95 - 5/12/2011, 7:21 PM
does this mean Dum Dum Dugan may appear in avengers???/
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 5/12/2011, 7:35 PM
The cast of the Avengers is getting more & more Epic,
MIIIK - 5/12/2011, 7:37 PM
Must be a flashback scene.

Awesome! Highlander style, lol.

Reasonnnn - 5/12/2011, 7:53 PM
Maybe Gabe Jones, Dum Dum Dugan will get the Infinity Formula too?
Ironbat95 - 5/12/2011, 7:57 PM
@reasonnn if they do get the infinity formula, there is no reason for SLJ to not be in the WWII scenes leading the COmandos with Cap
imnotahero - 5/12/2011, 8:00 PM
he dies in captain america. he is impersonated by a skrull to make steve go insane.
spideyvic - 5/12/2011, 8:06 PM
@imnotahero I agree with you. most likely this will be the case. Also, @ironbat95 if dum dum dugan doesn't appear for this film he eventually will. he is too important to just be ignored.
Sephiroth - 5/12/2011, 8:42 PM
i think he would've been a great choice to be cast as Black Panther
cashsteele - 5/12/2011, 9:33 PM
I haven't seen him any many images for Cap at least nothing in WWII, hes probably a part of the bookends...
moschops - 5/12/2011, 10:19 PM
He be playing a MUCH older version of himself in present day?
JoshJones - 5/12/2011, 10:28 PM
According to the leaked script details, Marvel's The Avengers opens with a flashback to Cap during WWII ala Ultimates. He probably has a bit part during that sequence.
FrankGarret - 5/12/2011, 10:43 PM
I honestly don't know what to make of all this.

Might be the Skrulls impersonate his old unit to screw with his head?
Unmasked - 5/12/2011, 10:51 PM

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!

That answer seems more logical. After all in the animated Avengers movie Cap did run into older allies.(An older Bucky Barnes.) So I'd imagine Cap running into Gabe and them talking about the war and what happened.

You've been UNMASKED!
moschops - 5/12/2011, 11:17 PM

It would be more of an emotional meeting. Cap still looking like a young man and Gabe a bent old guy with a walking stick.
NeoBaggins - 5/13/2011, 1:58 AM
FrankGarret I hate fan trailers and fan cast, but I checked you out anyway because it was interesting to be plotting CA2 so prematurely. At work this week we encountered a crackhead. He looked like the dude from "New Jack City" so I looked up the video to show my friends where he kills Nino Broan and says "YOUR SOUL IS REQUIRED IN HELL!". You have this guy fan cast as Gabe Jones. LMAO!

Thanks. It's been a rough week.

marvel72 - 5/13/2011, 9:30 AM
its got to be a flashback.
MissMystique - 5/13/2011, 9:53 AM
maybe they will make him older in avengers
ManThing - 5/13/2011, 11:03 AM
I for one am grateful that there is at least ONE actual Howling Commando in it.
jazzman - 5/13/2011, 11:48 AM

maybe Gabe Jones is actually Nick Fury. Nick Fury could be his as a codename :P lol
spectre88 - 5/13/2011, 1:19 PM
Flashback or dress him up as an old man.
EarOne - 5/16/2011, 11:06 PM
if they're just gonna have an OLD Gabe in The Avengers, they could've just hired an OLD actor for the role. a heavily made-up Derek would just look funny, no matter how good the make-up is...i think.

i also think Derek Luke should've been cast as either Black Panther (T'Challa) or Falcon (Sam Wilson, a modern day agent of SHIELD, the ultimate version).
BigMas1979 - 5/21/2011, 7:46 AM
dont know bout this one..........
Dechiriko - 5/25/2011, 10:24 PM
