Does The Post Credits Sequence In Thor Confirm Loki's Appearance In The Avengers?

Does The Post Credits Sequence In <i>Thor</i> Confirm Loki's Appearance In <i>The Avengers</i>?

It's been hinted at, thought to be confirmed, debunked, and then hinted at again. But if this info is accurate, we will most assuredly see Tom Hiddleston's Loki appear in The Avengers..

Many felt it was inevitable that Tom Hiddleston's Thor villain Loki would also pop up in Joss Whedon's Avengers to trouble our mighty heroes. But then everything seemed to be up in the air. Hiddleston wasn't sure, the Skrulls were(and still are) rumored, and then word seeped through that the God Of Lies wouldn't be making an appearance at all.

Now io9 have received the following info from a scooper..

The post-credits scene makes it pretty clear that Loki WILL appear in The Avengers. I think it's worth looking out for Stellan Skarsgaard on the cast list...!

They say they can't confirm it, but we already heard from Skarsgaard that he will most likely be in The Avengers, so perhaps the post credits scene also confirms Loki. Guess we will have to wait and see the movie to be sure. But of course even if he does APPEAR in the movie, that doesn't mean that he will be the main villain, or even pose much of a the rest, it may just be a cameo relating to Thor and not the rest of the team.

I hereby propose a moratorium on the word "epic."

That said, if the above rumor is true, it would be pretty f'ing epi... I mean, groovy.

Long time reader, 1st time commenttor.
Do we know what Skarsgaards role is in Thor? I mean I know he plays "Professor Andrews", but is he good, bad?

I'm calling it. End credits reveal that "Professor Andrews" is Loki all along. That way we can probably guess both actors (Hiddleston and Skarsgaard) will be back for avengers.

I haven't read the script so I could be waaay off.
ROBBEATZZZ - 4/13/2011, 7:04 AM
@Darkmatter..i agree also **SPOLIER** (VIA THOR SCRIPT)Skarsgaard's character has some connection to Banner and DR.Pym.
nordberg - 4/13/2011, 7:07 AM

I believe he's a Scandinavian scientist with some knowledge of Norse mythology, and is thus able to provide a little insight on Thor and where he came from.
JoshJones - 4/13/2011, 7:09 AM
Epic moratorium, bro.@Nordberg
Gmoney84 - 4/13/2011, 7:09 AM
Skarsgaard's character is Dr. Selvig BTW.
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 7:10 AM

Hmm... he looks evil to me. I can definately see him turning out to be Loki all along. Would be the sort of thing the could happen the comics.
SKGannbit - 4/13/2011, 7:11 AM
thank you, Nordberg. the word lost its meaning a LONG time ago.
DCMarvelFreshman - 4/13/2011, 7:11 AM
The after credits scene is awesome! I sort of spoiled myself
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 7:11 AM
Cheers dude. Ah well, maybe i'm wrong, I still think he looks evil. EEVVVILLL!
superotherside - 4/13/2011, 7:11 AM
@BetaRayJim ur idea is pretty good really, although i doubt he's loki... what i think will happen probably is at the end of thor he'll be impersonated by a skrull... think about that would make him relevant in avengers... and since he's a new character they can do anything they want with him... so i'd say that that might be why he's in thor and the avengers...
ThreeBigTacos - 4/13/2011, 7:13 AM
Loki looks cooler than Parallax :P
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 7:17 AM
Good shout on the skrull idea, but as much as I want to, I cannot see the Skrulls being in the MCU anytime soon.
I just think it'll come off too Sci-Fi. Green shapeshifting aliens?
Don't get me wrong, i'm all for it, but really doubt it'll happen.
nordberg - 4/13/2011, 7:17 AM

Well, your theory would definitely jibe with Loki's shenanigans in Ultimates Vol. 2, BUT if Skarsgaard were in fact Loki all along, it would kinda imply that he had foreknowledge that Odin would be banishing Thor to earth.

It could be that Loki whispers in Odin's ear after Thor screws the pooch with his assault on Jotunheim...

CorndogBurglar - 4/13/2011, 7:20 AM
Didn't Kevin Feige say a long, long time ago that there would be characters from Thor appearing in the Avengers?

Since none of the other Thor characters are that important aside from Odin, I thought everyone pretty much assumed Loki would be in it. Or am I remembering wrong?
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 7:27 AM

Agreed, however dare I say it, there is an element of realism to all of the characters you've mentioned. They've had to ground them all to a degree.
Hulk isn't jumping so high he can reach outer space, Iron man's origin was made to be more realistic and gritty, Thor is now a kind of "alien-god" (Which I realise kind of goes against my Sci-Fi argument), Cap is fairly realistic, I mean he's peak physical condition, not exceeding.
I just think little green aliens might be a step too far initially.
Hawksblueyes - 4/13/2011, 7:28 AM
He said that CDB, you're not remembering wrong. However, assuming that THOR is trapped in Asgard as the script would indicate, that would mean that his trusty hammer either lacks the ability to transport him across the realms (as it does in the comics) or he hasn't figure out how to make it do so as of yet. So it would stand to reason that Loki is also trapped and could not be screwing with Earth (at least until the bridge is fixed). Correct?

BetaRay: Hulk jumped his happy ass out of Brazil. We were with him as he watched it all dwindle as he flew over the mountains only to wake up miles away. They didn't show it but thats what was implied.
SageMode - 4/13/2011, 7:28 AM
Well, Loki was the first major villain that the first iteration of the Avengers battled anyway, so his appearance in the film is pivotal.
marvel72 - 4/13/2011, 7:36 AM
i think maybe it could be one of two endings.

1st loki from asgard gazes upon the hulk & witness his destructive force.

2nd loki meets up with shield agent coulson & we see coulson change back to his true form......a skrull.
Gmoney84 - 4/13/2011, 7:37 AM
I'm really miffed as to what the post credit's scene could be. Up until now all of the post credits scenes have referenced another movie in the MCU. I think they will have to do something to either tease The Avengers or Cap.
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 7:40 AM
@Hawksblueyes - We didn't really see him jump, it was implied, and over the course of a night so it could well have been lots of (while still huge) 1 mile jumps, not quite space reaching jumps like the comics.

@Darkmatter - I reckon stick with the classic Avengers story, Loki does something to the Hulk, Hulk goes crazy, Avengers take down Hulk. Then I think they'll throw in something else, be great if we had some infinity gauntlet or cosmic cube action. Dead happy to be proven wrong on this, I think the skrulls are great.
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 7:51 AM
@Darkmatter - Totally agree, I love TIH but it didn't really show how silly powerful Hulk is. I try to explain to my friends how Hulk is basically move mountains strong, and they...... well they tell me to stop being a geek but that's another story.
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 7:56 AM
@brazilianbatman True, and if they can fit it in and make it work i'll be well chuffed.
Ryguy88 - 4/13/2011, 7:57 AM
Nice find Ror, and it's good to see an article with some positive and constructive commenting going on too.
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 7:59 AM
@Ryguy88 - "positive and constructive commenting"
The internet needs more of this.
Orphix - 4/13/2011, 7:59 AM
NOT reading this...NOT reading this...NOT NOT NOT.....

SmokinIndo - 4/13/2011, 8:10 AM

You know what the after-credits scene is? OMFG you have to tell us!!!
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 8:11 AM
Hmm.. I have to disagree here. Spider-man stopping the train is well within the strength of Spider-man. Hulk should have no limits when it comes to strength, he could stop that train with absolute ease.
BetaRayJim - 4/13/2011, 8:16 AM
Lol I wonder sometimes, although they all liked Iron Man and Hulk, so i'm hoping to win them over with Thor, Cap, and Avengers. I'm Marvel guy so couldn't care less about Green Lantern or Batman (sorry, not being a fanboy, just not really interested).
marcvader1 - 4/13/2011, 8:26 AM
I'm guessing Loki will take up the guise of Dr. Selvig or a Skrull will. You watch
Knightfall1103 - 4/13/2011, 8:54 AM
I think the skrulls are a definite possiblity because in the first Iron Man he upgraded the armor to be able to reach freezing temperatures and Jarvis even joked about travel to other planets
capcyclopsftw - 4/13/2011, 9:22 AM
i agree with it like TIH.
Otcet - 4/13/2011, 9:26 AM
I think at the end of Thor they destroy the bridge and Thor can´t return to earth. Loki is going to be in the Avengers, because they bringing back Thor to defeat or stop Loki´s plans...very simple
Hawksblueyes - 4/13/2011, 9:30 AM
EvilEye: This will be the disappointment of the century.

That's the way to get excited about something.
TayDee - 4/13/2011, 9:34 AM
What was the after credit sequence, I dont remember reading about that in the thor script
SFCamerica - 4/13/2011, 9:50 AM
@grif - really bro? You're going to pay $15 to see the movie, but you won't stay an extra 10 minutes to see a great scene forshadowing future events? Please...
I know your MO is to annoy people, but now you just sound like a moron.

Don't kid yourselves people, you are on a comic book movie website all day, every day! I think it's funny that some people say they aren't seeing that or this will be crap. You are in the wrong place!
SFCamerica - 4/13/2011, 9:55 AM
Lastly, awesome conversation on this article, keep the ideas coming, it's fun to hear different ideas and speculation! Can't wait till April 28th. Once again, if anyone is in the Twin Cities area, hit me up, I can get you passes to a pre screening!

What was the after credit sequence, I dont remember reading about that in the thor script
Gmoney84 - 4/13/2011, 10:11 AM
There wasn't an after credit sequence described in the script. They always write those after the fact. In IM 1 they wrote it literally a day before they shot it according to Sam Jackson.
Ryden - 4/13/2011, 10:12 AM
Hulk's power level is hinted at in TIH, once we seem him get angrier he begins to kick Abomination's ass! And he's enjoying it too, remember it's all about "the angrier hulk gets, the stronger hulk gets" in TIH Hulk had never actually faced an enemy that's a threat before which is why he wasn't doing great against Abomination initially. He'll be more experience by the time Avengers comes out.
