EDITORIAL: The Future of The Marvel Cinematic Universe

With the recent news for phase 3 I`ve decided to tell all what I think the future will bring.

So a few weeks ago we heard Stan the man say that marvel was planning to bring Doctor Strange and Black Panther to the big screen. And as many of you know this morning Kevin confirmed that both Ant Man and Doctor Strange would be spearheading phase 3.

But what does this mean for the future of marvel and phase 3? I`m here to tell you what I think it means. Let’s start by naming the phases:
Phase One: The assembly of The Avengers and the origins of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America.

Phase 2: What phase 2 is to me is the painful part of the story. They`ve already been introduced but in every hero`s journey there must be sacrifice and death. Coulson was just the beginning. Next probably Happy Hogan then Loki and Frigga then we have Cap (hopefully) getting shot by his best friend and it will probably go on.

So given the theme of the above what will phase 3 be about? Kevin said that phase 3 would be completely different from what we`ve seen and that the characters would evolve in big, surprising ways. So what does that mean? And who are the characters that we will see returning?
Here`s my prediction:

Iron Man: we have already seen 2 films and are about to see the next one so do we really need more? Kevin said that they did have more adventures for the armored avenger but do we need one any time soon? There seems to be about 6 films per phase so if one movie had to hit the chopping block it would be Iron Man 4.

Hulk: If there’s one hero that needs a sequel it`s the hulk. The Incredible Hulk was over all a good movie but I think yes, it could have better. The best hulk that we`ve seen so far though is Mark Ruffalo`s one. After seeing hulk more or less steal the show in the avengers we wanted a sequel! Joss Whedon is currently writing something for hulk and I hope it`s good. I will be writing some fan-fic sometime this month about a hulk sequel. Right now I don`t think it`s very possible that we would get a Planet Hulk movie but we can still get a Ross/Leader team up with the wrecking crew in it and a red vs. green hulk battle at the end!

Thor: With Thor: the Dark World looking EPIC we have almost forgotten that The Enchantress and executioner aren`t in it. What do we really want to see in a Thor threequel? Surtur, Hela and a horse-faced guy named Bill. Thor 3 could be about the fall of Asgard to the fire demons and Thor`s last stand against the evil that threatens the well being of his 2 homes.

Captain America: Captain America can get sucked into the soul gem in avengers 2 and that 6 picture deal with Sebastian Stan could come in handy. Captain America: Reborn could be a title for this one and in it the Red Skull could finally make his return only to find that Bucky has taken over the mantle.

Now for the ones that have just been recently announced:

Ant Man: this is the only phase 3 film that has been officially announced. We have been asking for this for a LONG time and it`s finally coming. I`m glad that marvel is taking advantage of their 2 films a year thing and releasing this and the avengers sequel on the year. My only worry on this film is that it will fail in the box office. I mean normal people might say “wow “ant man” that sounds stupid,” and go see peanuts instead or they might say “Wait isn’t that a marvel movie? Man those guys really know how to make a movie! Honey you can take the kids to see peanuts we`re going to Ant Man!” Ok that’s a long shot but still the only thing that would keep this movie from failing would be people`s faith in marvel.

Doctor Strange: I`ve been wanting this movie to come for a long time and now it`s finally coming. It seems that in Ant Man and Doc Strange they will be taking us to a “whole different part of the mcu” so maybe that means that in future movies they will take us to other parts.. like martial arts (Iron Fist) and the deep sea (Namor).

Well that`s probably it for the solo movies right? * Cups ear * what’s that you say? I`ve missed one? One that we fanboys have been waiting patiently for ever since Iron Man? Ah yes I think you all know who I`m referring to.

BLACK PANTHER!: Yes now that we have Pym and the good Doctor there there`s only one character missing: the king of a technologically advanced nation called Wakanda. I think we all know that marvel does have the strength to pull off this film. When would be a good time? SDCC 2013 if that’s all that we get out of this year I’ll be happy. Or maybe a post credit teaser. Anything would be good as long as we are promised that Black Panther WILL be in phase 3.

And now for the finale:
The Avengers 3: I`m hoping that Ultron will be the villain in this one and I think he will probably kill Iron Man (if Thanos doesn`t do it). This will be the most painful one and probably the final stand of all of these heroes. It could end with an epic battle with hulk smashing Ultron around and tearing his in half.

After that I don`t know. A3 will probably be the last avengers movie so after that the films could lead up to things like The Defenders, The Inhumans and maybe even a GotG sequel.
Well that’s all please be sure to leave a comment and thumbs up! Avengers72 out.

RDJ's contract is up after Iron Man 3. Everyone needs to keep their fingers and toes crossed that he signs on for more films!

I think the mcu should end with a big civil war movie. Or a skrull invasion movie.
TonyChu - 1/26/2013, 4:30 PM
@=CorndogBurglar There is no way in hell RDJ would not sign another contract. Iron Man revived his career and he seems to be loving every minute in the suit.

@ tonychu

Yeah man, he said he would keep playing iron man as long as the fans still liked him in the role and he was still having fun.

Fans obviously want him, but there will definately come a time when he tires of it. I just hope he signs for another handful of movies. No one else could own that role the way he does.

Why do people almost always forget about Ms. Marvel when writing these types of articles?

Carol is officially pissed.

MCU ending? Why do so many people think the MCU is 'ending'? MCU is basically a new universe for Marvel to play in. It's not 'ending'. Marvel makes tons of money off these movies, and from now on, all their self-made movies are going to be set in Earth-199999. Better strap in for the long haul, kids.

Why does everyone think it has to end? There is the Secret Invasion, Civil War, Kree/Skrull War, The Infinity Gauntlet (if Marvel gets the rights to other characters there could be) Galactus, Avengers/X-men, etc.

Iron Man doesn't have to die, there are still tons of stories and villains to be explored. Madame Masque, Ghost, Mandarin (I doubt Mandarin will die in IM3), Firepower, Fin Fang Foom, etc.

Everyone should live unless they do a Civil War story then they might could do Cap dying, but then they'd have to resurrect him sooooo it might be hard...

Yeah I don't see it ending either. The fact of the matter is, Kevin Feige and Marvel have brought to life the Marvel UNIVERSE, not just the Avengers and company. It's as I've been saying ad infinitum, EXPLORE what you have before you try to add onto it.

Tell some stories from villainous standpoints. Make a Pulp Fiction-esque Marvel story with multiple, seemingly unrelated characters colliding from various trajectories. Not because they're going to friend each other on Facebook, but because their interaction would be a sight to see.

When the day comes that the Sinister Six are actually all seen in a Spider-man movie together, I want it told from THEIR point of view, with maybe one or two scenes depicting Spider-man's narrative.

Just remember the point of it all.... tell a story.

I really hope there's a darker tone to the Phase 2 films. They say IM3 will be a very isolated story but I'm curious to know what the connecting theme will be to the other Phase 2 films.
Perhaps, we will see the rise of certain villians, like AIM and Hydra or perhaps more about Thanos.

So you want the MCU to end but also continue?

Yeah, that makes a ton of sense.
