Filming For THE AVENGERS 2 Heading To South Africa?

Filming For THE AVENGERS 2 Heading To South Africa?

It seems that, in addition to the United Kingdom, some filming for Marvel's hotly anticipated sequel to The Avengers may take place in Cape Town of South Africa. Check it out after the jump for details!

With Iron Man 3 currently the No. 1 film in America, Thor: The Dark World in post-production, Captain America: The Winter Soldier filming now and Guardians of the Galaxy in pre-production, Marvel Studios is on track to commence filming early next year for The Avengers 2, which is the culmination of its Phase 2 slate. Earlier reports said that the sequel will shoot primarily in the United Kingdom, but it seems some filming may take place in another country; that isn't the U.S..

Multiple listeners of South African FM radio station 5FM suggest that Earth's Mightiest Heroes could be reassembling in Cape Town, according to the Chairman of Cape Town Film Studios. During the radio session, the chairman mentioned that Marvel reps have phoned them requesting permission to shoot the next Avengers movie in South Africa's jewel city, and 2nd-most populated.

If true, Marvel's early inquiry for filming in South Africa could be an indication of a new setting or, predominantly, a new character in Joss Whedon's (developing) Avengers 2 script. Coincidentally, rumors surfaced just last week attaching a potential leading actor and a 2014 start date to the Black Panther movie. However, considering that Marvel hasn't announced an adaptation of the first black mainstream superhero, we can only assume that T'Challa, and his advanced African nation Wakanda, will appear in The Avengers 2; based on the possibility that it will film in Cape Town.

Marvel's The Avengers 2 wouldn't be the first film to shoot in Cape Town, South Africa. The stunning scenery and great value of the primate city of the Western Cape has also lured recent films such as Dredd, Safe House, Dark Tide, and Chronicle. Anyhow, starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, The Avengers (untitled) sequel is written & directed by Joss Whedon, and hits theaters on May 1, 2015!

It will be an insult if they film over there and T'Challa doesn't have at least a 1 sec cameo
DamienA - 5/16/2013, 4:51 PM
Cape Town I don't think will be a stand in for Wakanda.

Looking at photos of Cape Town, it looks nothing like I imagined Wakanda would look on the big-screen. But there's still hope

Lets have a great twist in it like Thanos is actually a nerdy kid on earth. Hows about we gay up a character like Cap or Loki for a clever twist. I hate you Shane Black....I HATE YOU!

Well...I guess anywhere in Africa is the same as anywhere else in Africa, so...yeah, definitely gonna be Black Panther! There's absolutely no chance that Cape Town won't be used for Wakanda. (sarcasm)

This is so sad. Guys, come on...Cape Town is a touristy, resorty kinda place. It's like filming in Las Vegas, and assuming they're going to have Alpha Flight because, by God, it's the same continent they're from!

I think BP, Falcon and the twins will be the new Avengers
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 5/16/2013, 5:03 PM
I love black panther. One of my favorite characters but I doubt this is Wakanda. Wakanda is supposed to be even more technologically advanced than the U.S.
BraxtonHicks - 5/16/2013, 5:04 PM
ok, so no Wakanda...I see ocean...NAMOR!!!! just kdding, and very true, it's a big maybe that Black Panther could appear still...

siggisuperman - 5/16/2013, 5:05 PM
Guys have you watched the ultimate Avengers animated movies ? Where in the first one the chitauri attack and in the second one they introduce panther and wakanda, along with a side story with Hank Pym and Wasp
gaikinger - 5/16/2013, 5:06 PM
Make him gay or better yet make him a white guy but everyone assumes hes black.....make him a white effete Brittish guy...yeah thats it. We will call it thinking outside the box......I hate you Shane Black!
ruadh - 5/16/2013, 5:07 PM
Filming in Cape Town isn't the same thing as filming in other parts of Africa. Look at all the films that have been shot there. You don't shoot there to get a Wakanda-esque landscape.
capcyclopsftw - 5/16/2013, 5:08 PM
Uhhh guys, come on, they've filmed how much in England and how many times have you seen Captain Britain?
gaikinger - 5/16/2013, 5:09 PM
Honestly im hoping for Namor. Who is Black Panther? Does he have a famous arch enemy? Does he have his own book? You guys are shaking the tree for this?
ruadh - 5/16/2013, 5:09 PM
@Intruder has nothing to do with Black Panther. Use that part of your brain.
