Kevin Feige Confirms That Thanos Has Been Cast; Talks BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Showdown

Kevin Feige confirms that Marvel have indeed found an actor to play Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, and also comments on the news that Captain America 3 will be released on May 6th, 2016; the same date as Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman. "We had the flag there first..."

Talking to Empire Magazine, Marvel Studios President and producer Kevin Feige was asked about recent reports that Thanos will indeed be making a physical appearance in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, and whether or not he will be a CGI creation as in The Avengers or if they actually have someone in mind to play him. While he wouldn't divulge any details about how the character will be brought to life in the movie, Feige did confirm that the role has ben cast! "There is an actor. I'm not sure we want to announce it yet." Comic-Con? Speaking of which, it was at last year's event in San Diego that Batman Vs. Superman was announced, and it has since been slotted in for release opposite Captain America 3 in 2016. How does the Marvel boss feel about people seeing their decision to not move as a sign of confidence in the franchise? "Well, I'm glad people think that way. We had the flag there first. What other people do and where has always been less of our concern. It's about keeping our head down and doing what we would believe would be cool for an audience to see. I wouldn't say that necessarily." Going back to Guardians of the Galaxy, Feige had this to say about the role of the movie in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Guardians will feel and seem the most separate. But in a summer where people are going to see a lot of sequels, some of which are ours, and a lot of reboots and familiar faces, we were excited about the idea of bringing something new and totall unexpected to the screen."

Sidney Poitier's son?
Abary - 4/24/2014, 4:56 AM
He'll probably announce it before Comic Con, seeing as how GOTG would have already been premiered to a select audience by that point and they'd see the name in the credits anyway.
KingOnslaught - 4/24/2014, 4:57 AM
Thanos will be at the end credits we all already know that but i wonder who they got to play him lets the speculation BEGIN!!!!!
ATrueHero1987 - 4/24/2014, 4:58 AM
Damn, I wonder who it could be??
ALegendaryPanda - 4/24/2014, 5:00 AM
I'm pretty sure James Gunn said in another interview that Thanos is CG. I'm really curious as to who they got for the voice though
ElShumway - 4/24/2014, 5:05 AM
Feige's ego is getting the better of him it seems. They can't just claim dates long in advance with nothing announced on them and expect every other studio to steer clear. So no, you didn't have the flag there first Mr.Feige. If you had an actual movie announced, fair enough. This was different.

Anyway, even though Disney will probably make Marvel move, I hope they don't. Feige is in for a rude awakening on May 6th, 2016.
AlexanderLykins - 4/24/2014, 5:06 AM
I'm beyond excited to hear who they cast for Thanos.
FusionForce - 4/24/2014, 5:08 AM
[frick] yeah Feige!
Brainiac13 - 4/24/2014, 5:08 AM
So is Thanos in GOTG?
TheBrotherhood - 4/24/2014, 5:09 AM
I smell a Ron Perlman sighting at this year's comic-con...

The actor is Damion Poiter - he played Thanos in Avengers and will do so again. They are hiding the voice actor though for now...

Marvel announced that slot for a upcoming flick back in 2013 - BvS moved to that spot this year. So yes... Marvel had 'the flag there first'

In the Avengers the actor playing him was Damion Poitier - however they'll probably get a big name actor to do the voice when it comes to Guardians Of The Galaxy. I believe Thanos is also motion capture and prosthetics to an extent...
charlie2094 - 4/24/2014, 5:11 AM
Of course he has been, they've finished film and didn't they say he was motion capture?

Still don't doubt that it might be Vin Diesel. Could definitely give him the right sort of voice, the right sort of build and presence for the motion capture, and all that stuff he said about the "merging of brands" and such. Might not be, be could easily be, they definitely kept him as "Groot" very quiet, wouldn't be surprised if there is more to that.
Rulk - 4/24/2014, 5:11 AM
Can't wait for Guardians of the Galaxy!!! Can't wait for THANOS!!!!

AlexanderLykins - 4/24/2014, 5:11 AM
Marvel has nothing to lose. So why not stay? Batman vs. Superman has everything to lose. It'll beat Captain America 3 at the box office but depending on it's budget, it might not perform like Warner Bros./DC want it to.
marvel72 - 4/24/2014, 5:11 AM
thanos is the main reason i'm so excited in seeing guardians of the galaxy, love the comic book hope its great.
HAILHYDRA - 4/24/2014, 5:12 AM
That first week in May was made by Marvel. Everyone points the finger at Marvel/Disney for wanting to keep that date, but the first punch was thrown by DC/WB when they moved from their original 2015 release date to their May 2016 release date. Once again, we Marvel showing DC how it's done and DC clearly took notes.
Scarilian - 4/24/2014, 5:12 AM
Yes. He's essentially the main threat manipulating all the villains in GOTG. I believe he is also their to explain Gamora's backstory.
CherryBomb - 4/24/2014, 5:14 AM
Just move Marvel,
They've proved that Cap can make a ton of money being released in April, so why not release it in April?
Sure Batman vs Superman has more to lose but shouldn't Marvel want to make as much money as they can? Idiots.
Klone - 4/24/2014, 5:16 AM

If they move they look weak and WB's stunt may give other big studios the idea that they too can bully them into submission.
marvel72 - 4/24/2014, 5:17 AM
marvel studios doesn't give a shit about batman vs superman,if or when captain america the winter soldier passes man of steel's box office total, then we'll hear something from warner about date change.

third movies or last in a franchise normally make the most money,so there is your warning warner.

Rulk - 4/24/2014, 5:19 AM
@ ElShumway - You don't think Marvel knew what movie they were opening on that date? They just don't want to show their hand too much to the public as they roll out their cinematic universe. And to play devil's advocate.. WB didn't even announce the title of their movie yet... so they're not much better bro.
DefcoN - 4/24/2014, 5:19 AM
"We had the flag there first". DARN RIGHT.

ezio619 - 4/24/2014, 5:19 AM
Feige may be saying that they wont move but ultimately they are people above feige now at disney that might reconsider and move and he cant do anything about it,ultimatel they want to make as much money as possible
HAILHYDRA - 4/24/2014, 5:20 AM
I really find it hard to believe that no one else released that by moving their film to May DC/WB is basically saying that they want in on the success Marvel has received from that day. And even if Marvel does move, big deal. BvS is the culmination of over twenty years of Batman and Superman solo films. Not to mention the first film based on a DC comic in three years. It would be like if The Avengers was finally going to be released after twenty years of solo films and three years after the last Marvel film and was going up against Green Lantern.
Klone - 4/24/2014, 5:21 AM
Cap 2 is going to make more than Iron Man 2 and by 2016, Cap 3 will also be dickriding off of Avengers 2. Like it or not, it's look more and more dire for WB even if they are using the DC Trinity and their stunt castings won't bring that much of a greater audience. I'm sure some [frick]ers will call me a Marvel "sleeper agent" for not proclaiming that Marvel will be destroyed and raped by WB, but to me it is looking far worse for WB.
ATrueHero1987 - 4/24/2014, 5:21 AM
Marvel are "idiots" because they had that date first and don't want to move? That makes no sense...
Brainiac13 - 4/24/2014, 5:24 AM

ProfessorX - 4/24/2014, 5:24 AM
DC vs Marvel

Kevin Feige is the man.
TheRationalNerd - 4/24/2014, 5:24 AM
Could've sworn Diesel let it slip out already he was voicing another character.
HAILHYDRA - 4/24/2014, 5:25 AM
MAK, Wasn't Man of Steel dickriding off of TDKR. The first trailer was shown there and Chris Nolan's name was thrown all over it. Are we suppose to criticize a company for promoting their movie well?
BlinkyStark - 4/24/2014, 5:26 AM
What a dog piece of filth DC/WB is

moving their crap in the making movie to Marvel's original release date

i'm sure i ain't watching an anorexic wonder woman with cardboard actor superman and douche face batman

eat a d*ck WB/DC
CherryBomb - 4/24/2014, 5:29 AM

At this point, Marvel can't really look weak in any capacity. Especially with the huge success that is The Winter Soldier. They go up against BvS and they'll lose a lot of money. Sure they can afford to but from a business perspective it's a bad call not to move. It's just ego's talking and not analytical brains.
kalelhawj - 4/24/2014, 5:29 AM
If there's a poll on which movie you will watch first on opening weekend I bet 90% of you will be waiting in line for the event movie of the decade for MOS 2. The other 10% are the hard core I do not support DC marvel fans.
