Kevin Feige Explains More On Plans for "Phase Two" Of The Avengers Saga!

Reiterating Marvel projects post-The Avengers, including the Captain America and Thor sequels, Marvel Studios' president explains the big picture for "phase 2" of the saga!

Unloading more from their revealing New York Comic Con chat with Marvel Studios' president of production, Kevin Feige, the folks from IGN also had the head honcho discuss the master plan for "phase two" of movies post-The Avengers.

"We've already announced Iron Man 3 and Thor 2; both of those will be spread out within 2013," explained Feige. "We haven't announced yet the 2014 movies, but we are working on a draft of Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, and some of these other ones we've been talking about for a while. Ant-Man I'm hoping we can get off the ground sometime soon. If these first group of films – "phase one" of this Avengers saga starting with Iron Man and ending with Avengers – has an overarching theme, which it does. As people sort of watch all the movies together and then watch The Avengers movie, they'll see this big picture we've been building towards... we have started working on the bones and structure and threading for a phase two. It does start with Iron Man 3 and if it all works – which we hope it does – culminates in another Avengers film."

Marvel's The Avengers is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

See now that's the type of news I like hearing! Would be really cool to get Ant-Man and Cap 2 in 2014.
blvdnoise - 10/17/2011, 12:18 PM
Homeboy talks a good one don't he?
ThreeBigTacos - 10/17/2011, 12:30 PM
Essentially he's saying

Phase 1 (Avengers): Dangling a twinkie in our faces
Phase 2 (Avengers2): Making us eat the twinkie
Pahse 3 (Avengers3): Looking back, we enjoyed the twinkie

End Story: Marvel's making a beautiful product, one that takes time to 'cook' and is going to leave a beautiful mark on us fanboys.

If Iron Man is starting it all off again. I have a feeling Iron Man III will prob have mention of vibranium and Wakanda. Since Howard mentioned it in Cap TFA. I also bet Thor probably wont be in the Avengers II, and will be replaced with Ms Marvel or someone else on a cosmic level.
ksommer - 10/17/2011, 12:38 PM
@StrangerX, Thor is signed on for more than one Avenger movie...

Hemsworth also revealed that his contract with Marvel includes two sequels for Thor as well as two for The Avengers. Whether Portman would appear in those sequels as well is unknown.
ksommer - 10/17/2011, 12:39 PM
Duh.. Hemsworth, not Thor. But then again, he is Thor. :)
tazmaniak - 10/17/2011, 12:51 PM
Meanwhile, WB haven't announced a single film past Man of Steel.

ksommer- Damn right he is! I think there's never been a better character portrayal than Hemsworth's Thor! RDJ's all well and good but he practically plays himself.
ShinjaTurtle - 10/17/2011, 12:59 PM
Just remember that GL had planned sequels prior to its release as well.
And we all know how well that worked out!
Don't be hasty!
Shaman - 10/17/2011, 1:00 PM
ShinjaTurtle- Tom Jane's Punisher and Daredevil were better than both Fantastic Four movies IMO. But for the most part that's pretty spot-on! :))
MovieMaster - 10/17/2011, 1:05 PM
@Intruder- thats not the point of the pic dumbass
ShinjaTurtle - 10/17/2011, 1:09 PM
That's what I mean. Spend more time making sure people are gonna like the movie and less time planning what you're gonna do with all the success that hasn't happened yet.
Ironnick - 10/17/2011, 1:14 PM
So its like another five to six year plan to do work up to The Avengers 2?
marvel72 - 10/17/2011, 1:14 PM
the avengers 2012

iron man 3 2013
thor 2 2013

captain america 2 2014
guardians of tha galaxy 2014

the avengers 2 2015

they may fit ant-man & dr.strange in there somewhere.
Neo3 - 10/17/2011, 1:14 PM
@tazmaniak Didn't WB say they are not following Marvel. Didn't thsy say to individual movies and just do JLA movie or something to that effect.
Neo3 - 10/17/2011, 1:16 PM
@ironnick why so long. Took 4 year for The Avengers 4 more years would be 2016. I would think Marvel will have 3 in 2013, 2014 maybe 4 in 2015 so a 2015 release is doable.
Neo3 - 10/17/2011, 1:16 PM
CAP2 - 2014
Dr. Strange - 2014
Ant-Man - 2014
StrangerX - 10/17/2011, 1:27 PM
@ksommer- I believe all the actors basically signed up for those type of contracts. However, I don't think That necessarily means each actor will have to appear in every Avengers film. I'm sure by Avengers III if it ever gets to that. We wont see every Avenger from the first movie.
soberchimera - 10/17/2011, 1:27 PM
Let's see Kang mother[frick]ers!!!!!!!!!!!!
marvel72 - 10/17/2011, 1:29 PM
shame the avengers may only be a trilogy,i wouldn't mind say six films.
WolvieCBM - 10/17/2011, 1:33 PM
Cap 2....That's all I want after Thor 2 and IM3. First one was just great.
SHIRO - 10/17/2011, 1:34 PM

Yeah...all Marvel films not made under Marvel Studios
I think Marvel Studios has been doing a good enough job with their films
Out of all the MCU movies the only one that really disappointed me was Iron Man 2
Even with that i still found it more entertaining that alot of the Marvel films made by the other studios
druzod2501 - 10/17/2011, 1:52 PM
No hope for a TIH 2? the hell?
CaptainTall - 10/17/2011, 1:58 PM
@tazmaniak, Consistently, WB has referred to Man Of Steel as the first of a series of Superman films under Zack Snyder (Best director ever, IMO). Meaning there are planned sequels for MoS, they are just only currently being hinted at. Not trying to start an argument, I'm just correcting you.
ShinjaTurtle - 10/17/2011, 1:58 PM
Yes their independent MCU is coming along nicely (I'm even one of those who liked IM2), but Marvel was involved in bad decisions in the past movies, so I'd prefer they not get too cocky just yet.
jazzman - 10/17/2011, 2:01 PM

all the movies u mention are not produce by Marvel Studio get with the program
genesis609 - 10/17/2011, 2:09 PM
Avengers 1: Loki & Skrulls
Avengers 2: Ultron (Introduce Antman/Wasp/Black Panther/Vision)
Avengers 3: Thanos (Introduce Ms. Marvel)

Iron Man 3: Mandarin & Fing Fang Foom
Thor 2: Enchantress & Executioner
Cap America 2: Baron Zemo & Wintersoldier
Antman: Kang
Black Panther: Man Ape

Thor 3: Surtur
Cap 3: Red Skull returns Crossbones
Hawkeye: Constrictor?

all hopes....
vtopa - 10/17/2011, 2:14 PM
I think that the cameos in this flick will not be of the superhero variety (i.e., Dr. Strange, Ant-Man) but rather, actors from the previous movies. Like Pepper Potts and Bettie Ross bumping into each other at a coffee shop as Iron Man and Hulk race by on their way to fight some skrulls. Stuff like that.
ShinjaTurtle - 10/17/2011, 2:21 PM
Very relevant!;)
blue18 - 10/17/2011, 2:48 PM
They really do like to tease us, don't they? Dang their souls! BRING ON THE EPIC-NESS!! I'M READY NOW!!! :D
dancingmonkey08 - 10/17/2011, 2:50 PM
Dont get me wrong, I am dying for a Dr Strange movie & Guardians of the Galaxy, awesome ideas for movies but shouldnt they focus on completing each of the big Avengers movie trilogies first. Sure Iron Man will be done, Thor is on his way. But Cap should be made into a trilogy first, Hawkeye should be given a movie looking into his origin & have Black Widow appear in it too

My point is make all the movie with these characters first while the actors are still young and very enthusiastic about making these movies

Then when each character has had a trilogy (except for Hawkeye) & Im including Black Panther, Captain Marvel etc in that, then move onto other characters who dont need to be in any potential crossovers with the big Avengers. So what I mean is move on to Dr Strange and all the rest then
TheIronHulk - 10/17/2011, 2:59 PM
What happen to the incredible hulk 2
JackBauer - 10/17/2011, 3:03 PM
Original Guardians!

jjmeylar - 10/17/2011, 4:40 PM
I hope that they only do ONE more "Avengers" film. It would be nice to see Ultron or Kang in it. After that, though, they need to move on to building some other franchises.........such as "Young Avengers" or even "Skrull Kill Krew".
Gnyah123 - 10/17/2011, 5:47 PM
im pretty sure THANOS will be 1 of the other main villians in the avengers i cud be wrong...
but this dude basically said avengers 2 will indeed happen.AFTER another round of movies?
such as CAP2 , Thor 2, Ironman 3...and i have no idea what guardians of the galaxy is? never heard of it but sounds n seems pretty cool
are they part of the avengers? or is it there own little team??
Gnyah123 - 10/17/2011, 5:48 PM
and i agree i think they shud have a hawkeye movie at least! giving us a back round check n history of him wit black widow appear in it..
defenderofthefaith - 10/17/2011, 5:55 PM
I think Natalie Portman was either still pregnant or just gave birth when shooting started for the Avengers so she couldn't be in it. She is already confirmed for Thor 2 so she is not going anywhere.
HeyVanity - 10/17/2011, 6:53 PM
@ShinjaTurtle- Not one of those movies were produced by Marvel Studios, lol. If you want an accurate sample of the quality of their films, look only at the ones leading up to the Avengers.

How in the world do we still have people on here using Fox and Sony films as evidence that Marvel is capable of making bad movies?
Fogs - 10/18/2011, 6:58 AM
I understand by ShinjaTurtle's image that it means MARVEL knows how to make a good avengers movie, something Fox and Sony don't.
