MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS Briefcase Set To Be Released Spring 2013

MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS Briefcase Set To Be Released Spring 2013

Following the legal problems surrounding the release of Marvel's The Avengers in a replica of the briefcase used by Nick Fury in the superhero ensemble, it is now being reported that the set has been pushed back to an unspecified Spring 2013 date. Read on for details!

Entertainment Weekly reports that the "Phase One" briefcase set featuring Marvel's The Avengers, Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk and Thor on Blu-ray will now be released on "an unspecified date next spring, according to sources at parent company Disney." Originally set to be released on September 25th, a German luggage firm have filed a lawsuit because of the similarities between the replica briefcase being used for this set and one of their products. The set, which includes a glowing replica of the Tesseract, is now being redesigned. What will happen to the discarded plastic briefcases and what this new version will look like is unknown.

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures Marvel’s The Avengers--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Wow Disney, epic fail!
DarkGrifter - 9/6/2012, 11:06 AM
I guess they'll have to get rid of those "trademarked parallel ridges" that make Rimowa's cases so iconic.
D117 - 9/6/2012, 11:22 AM
Wtf!! What a waste of a pre order smh
papadac - 9/6/2012, 11:23 AM
wtf! now I have to buy the regular blu-ray version of the Avengers or wait six months to get this one?!?
Fogs - 9/6/2012, 11:23 AM
incredible that this was the cheaper solution. Because make no mistake, that was all that this was about.
ThreeBigTacos - 9/6/2012, 11:23 AM
I had it preordered via Amazon since the original once was announced... so what happens now? Does that preorder carry over?
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/6/2012, 11:23 AM
B00uWhore692 - 9/6/2012, 11:24 AM
The Avengers are crazy enough to take on Loki...but a German Luggage Company? Noooo thank you.
Moakynubs - 9/6/2012, 11:24 AM
DARN guys! We're going to have to give marvel more money to make great movies with! :(
GoILL - 9/6/2012, 11:24 AM
Good thing I was only getting the standalone blu-ray release. I feel for those who ordered the set and now have to wait.
DrDoom - 9/6/2012, 11:24 AM
All pre-orders are to be cancelled and refunded. That suitcase company RUINED Disney with this box set. No one will care about it by the time it is released.
ADomenick91092 - 9/6/2012, 11:25 AM

I've had a pre-ordered item get delayed on Amazon before, and nothing happens. Your pre-order stays and you'll get it as soon as it's released.
ATrueHero1987 - 9/6/2012, 11:25 AM
WHAT?!?! NO! I was looking forward to this!! I was ready to have all the phase one movies on Blu Ray! Dammit!
SpoonWielder - 9/6/2012, 11:26 AM
Ugh.....I guess later is better than never. But still six months!?1 At least my roommate is getting the Blu-ray Combo pack. I guess I can just watch his.
SpoonWielder - 9/6/2012, 11:28 AM
They better make up for the delay by giving digital copies with the set.
iJackSparrow - 9/6/2012, 11:29 AM
I'm still buying it whenever they release it. My copy of The Avengers came today!

Tonight I'll be at a gig and tomorrow is a holiday around here, so it'll be The Avengers Day in my place.

DrDoom - 9/6/2012, 11:32 AM
The Red Skull wins this round . . . .
buzzman - 9/6/2012, 11:32 AM
Ugh. WTF.
HelaGood - 9/6/2012, 11:32 AM
glad they are waiting and not totally abandoning it. cant wait to get one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
StrangerX - 9/6/2012, 11:35 AM
I don't own a blu-ray so it doesn't matter
crazycharliemma - 9/6/2012, 11:36 AM
Fogs - 9/6/2012, 11:36 AM
@yoss - not cool, man.
jimpinto24 - 9/6/2012, 11:36 AM
WTF??? With the lawsuit, they will probably change the suitcase. :(
CharlesLord - 9/6/2012, 11:38 AM
wait so does this mean my pre-order is cancelled? or that i wont be gettin it until next yr?
NorrinRaddical - 9/6/2012, 11:39 AM
not sure why they couldn't settle with the original suitcase engineers, but at least the suitcase folks keep the integrity of their intellectual property, and rich-as-Croesus Marvel/Disney refute the indignity of having to write that check. they'll probably spending the same amount redesigning and recalling and reproducing.

whatever. mini-toy arguments aside, Disney wanted to squeeze more out of the agreed upon original contract and didn't want to pay.
HelaGood - 9/6/2012, 11:44 AM
just dont get any splooge on the cube... itll activate it.
BmanHall - 9/6/2012, 11:53 AM
I already got the other movies on Blu-ray anyway so I'm good. Still, sucks for you guys who already ordered.
docgl - 9/6/2012, 12:08 PM
ijacksparrow How could your copy of the Avengers have arrived already. It hasn't been released yet you goof.
Bodwulf - 9/6/2012, 12:14 PM
They should replace it with the briefcase armor suitcase. Damn Germans first ya start WWII and now this.
Shawarma Road, The Fab Four of 2012
BlueHawaiiSurfer - 9/6/2012, 12:25 PM
Well shit I already paid for this lol. WTF?!?! Germans...still [frick]ing up shit for the rest of us decades later. :o(
CPBuff22 - 9/6/2012, 12:43 PM

Disney was already throwing more extras in the regular Blu-ray (four disk set) release than in this box set. You get Disney reward points, one of the five theatrical posters with option to get the other four for a total of $19.99, as well as the ability to cash in your Disney points for free exclusive merchandise.

As far as this briefcase issue goes I am unsure as to why Disney didn't win. First off they were given rights to modify a briefcase from this company and put it in the movie. Under patent law if you give permission to modify a product the then modified version can have a replica made. This German company never released a briefcase with a clear hole in the top featuring a Shield logo. That is enough of a cosmetic difference that this should have been thrown out of court.
EtriganTheDemon - 9/6/2012, 12:51 PM
I wonder if I'll ever get something I look forward to on the specified day of it's release, nothing ever releases as scheduled. However, if they lose the model Tesseract and the sleek suitcase design, they won't be getting a cent from me.
comiccow6 - 9/6/2012, 12:58 PM
At least we're still getting it. Yep, I'm positive.
Bane2099 - 9/6/2012, 12:58 PM
Its kool, I'm happy with the Best Buy steelbook cover I got the other day for when The Avengers comes out on DVD :]
marvel72 - 9/6/2012, 12:59 PM
(shrugs shoulders)so i'll have to wait until spring 2013,no big deal.
TheAbomination - 9/6/2012, 1:02 PM
And this is EXACTLY why I'm gonna torrent the Avengers next month.
DudeLove721 - 9/6/2012, 1:02 PM
About distribution before the lawsuit goes to court, I'm still pretty sure the plaintif has to file a request for the offending product to be banned. From there, they have a hearing and a judge decides whether or not the product is allowed to be sold or has to be pulled from shelves. Unless Disney is suspending the production and release of this product voluntarily, this news still doesn't make sense to me. I also don't know why they would do so voluntarily, considering the money they'll lose by delaying and redesigning this product. Unless the actual case is being used in future movies and they don't want to ruffle feathers, I don't understand the reasoning behind this -- unless the lawsuit can't go forward until the actual product is sold and they just want to avoid it altogether? I'm waiting to hear what distributors say about the situation.
REDSTORM - 9/6/2012, 1:06 PM
Maybe the case will look nicer next time around? I can imagine something with the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on it looking [frick]ing beautiful.
Ceejay - 9/6/2012, 1:18 PM
Soooo not bothered!

Novelty box sets are tacky shite that takes up more room than they need in the house!
