MTV Has Some Really Good Theories On Why Agent Coulson May Become The Vision

The theories continue to spill about how a certain character in The Avengers is destined to become Vision, and these ones are really good. Check them out after the jump!

MTV has listed some very good theories on their page on why Coulson could become Vision..

» Life Model Decoys
It's already been established that there are synthezoids and life model decoys in the Marvel movie universe. Life model decoys have been mentioned several times now, in both "Iron Man 2" and "The Avengers," while synthezoids were briefly discussed in "Captain America: The First Avenger." Since there are already fully functioning androids that exist, it seems only fair to assume that The Vision is just around the corner.

» Lack of Emotion
If there's one thing people remember about Phil Coulson, it's that he rarely showed any signs of emotion. Always appearing calm and collected, even after being stabbed through the chest by Loki, Coulson is already android-like in that regard. The fact that he had the foresight to advise Nick Fury to use his untimely death as a means of motivating the team only adds to Coulson's cool and calculated nature.

» Stark Tower Security
Towards the beginning of "The Avengers," Agent Coulson somehow manages to bypass all of the high tech security that Stark Tower has to offer. How is it that Coulson is able to waltz right in to the home of one of the richest and smartest men in the world? Well, perhaps he has the ability to manipulate his density. You know, making himself intangible and what not.

» One Good Eye
After the death of Coulson, Nick Fury states that he "lost his one good eye." While this is clearly a play on words, being as Nick Fury wears an eye-patch, it could also be a reference to Coulson's codename: Vision. In the field, Agent Coulson would act as Fury's eyes allowing him to see anything and everything that Coulson sees firsthand. Get it? Vision? Eyes?

» Jim Hammond
The only thing that Agent Coulson ever showed the slightest bit of enthusiasm for was Captain America. Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch android, fought alongside Captain America on several occasions back in the '40s, according to comic book lore. he body of Jim Hammond is also the original synthezoid on which The Vision was based. It's a stretch, but that could serve as yet another clue that Coulson will come back in android form.

So what do you think? Do you think Marvel is making Coulson Vision or are these just coincidences and/or just theories? Sound off below!!!

Has MTV read the comics?
CoolantTech - 5/19/2012, 12:00 AM
IDK I hope so, that would be cool if Clark Gregg returned as a Superhero
Oxbow - 5/19/2012, 12:03 AM
i watched it today and I think the movie makes it very clear that he's coming back. It's done with a wink and it's all very subtle, but I think all the signs are there. It's still pretty sloppy though...if they were planning on making him into vision, they should have had Pym instead of Selvig in Thor (as someone else on here mentioned). That way they could have done the Vision story right, f-h-wood
KnobGoblin - 5/19/2012, 12:06 AM
Isn't Clark Gregg still signed on for like 6 movies or something like that?
KnobGoblin - 5/19/2012, 12:11 AM
@Shadow101, I think it's pretty clear by now that the MCU isn't 100% comics accurate.
MarsivNayr - 5/19/2012, 12:12 AM
How do you post pictures on hear?

Forgive my ignorance haha

Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe starts of with nanotechnology in Iron Man 3-- so I think the next step after "avenging Phil Coulson" entails the exploration of "resurrection" (a.k.a. developing cyborgs). It's the natural course of things for the World Security Council to look into safer, more controllable methods of super-powered defenders. Especially considering Kevin Feige's interest in going into Civil War by Avengers Assemble 3.

There's a reason why they're pushing Ant-Man at this point. Vision and Ultron are going lead directly into the conflict for Avengers Assemble 2.
Sanderman - 5/19/2012, 12:12 AM
would be cool if he was vision the entire time. if the do decide to have vision in the next movie i wonder if they are going to alter the looks of it much
Zounds - 5/19/2012, 12:14 AM
There've been a number of other reasons as to how/why Son of Coul could be The Vision, but I hadn't thought of or read this:

"One Good Eye -

After the death of Coulson, Nick Fury states that he "lost his one good eye." While this is clearly a play on words, being as Nick Fury wears an eye-patch, it could also be a reference to Coulson's codename: Vision. In the field, Agent Coulson would act as Fury's eyes allowing him to see anything and everything that Coulson sees firsthand. Get it? Vision? Eyes? "

Nice one.
Luigi - 5/19/2012, 12:17 AM
So Vision's a Skrull?
Bomblu - 5/19/2012, 12:20 AM
I want him to return, and all the signs "clearly show" that he could be the Vision - however i'm afraid of all this coverage etc. People might end up assuming that he's definitely the Vision, thus losing the surprise in the next films, and they'll end up scraping the idea since it's not "innovative" any more :'(
95 - 5/19/2012, 12:21 AM
I've heard that "One Good Eye" possible-Vision-reference before on this site a couple days back. Pretty clear, people want Clark Gregg employed and with Marvel. Agent Coulson has, to my surprise, been a highlight of the comedic moments for all six films. Just the sight of him garners applause and laughter. While I've grown to like him as a character, he's dead. Let Vision be it's own thing. Coulson's body can be used for other cyborgs, but not Vision. I'm sure we'll see Coulson again. SHIELD still has his body-- and we know how SHIELD treats their "possessions".
Mego - 5/19/2012, 12:21 AM
MTV? Are they an authority on comics or movies?? I would rather see Coulson simply be alive than see a Data type cyborg or android.
I hate Mtv but I wouldnt mind if Mtv gave me head! So Mtv if youre reading, Hey, suck it!
Destroyer7 - 5/19/2012, 12:24 AM
Agent Phil Coulson will become the Vision?
testamentsol - 5/19/2012, 12:28 AM
WOW!!! MTV is reaching like a muther[frick]er!!
BANE5000 - 5/19/2012, 12:29 AM
I still think when it comes to the MCU, instead of having Vision be a green and yellow android walking amongst SHIELD agents...they just " re-visioned " the character and changed him to be Phil Coulson, a human but gave him Vision's lack of human emotions.
Jimdlux - 5/19/2012, 12:30 AM
@3D...So you are saying you didn't see Thanos at the end of Avengers 1?
LordHuck - 5/19/2012, 12:33 AM
please no just let him die. This has nothing to do with vision nor should it.
MarsivNayr - 5/19/2012, 12:34 AM
95 - 5/19/2012, 12:44 AM

Where did I say that?

Thanos is beyond The Avengers. He's Marvel's Galactus (while Fox owns him). Cyborgs are going to be the core of Phase 2. Marvel's Cosmic adventures will have Thanos as their core-- but he's beyond Earth-centered stories. Guardians of the Galaxy will probably be The Avengers of the Cosmic Side. That's where Thanos will come in. This way we can get two arcs going at once: Space-faring stories and Earth-centered.
cmax - 5/19/2012, 12:53 AM
grasping at straws.
ElApe - 5/19/2012, 1:15 AM
Coulson will be back, I hope it's not as Vision.
Floke - 5/19/2012, 1:31 AM
He died with a weapon made from the Destroyer in his arms, perhaps they use the rest and turn him into a cyborg. Not Vision but someone else. Perhaps this one:
"Former S.H.I.E.L.D agent" And look at the gun he is holding..
RealDCGuy - 5/19/2012, 1:37 AM
He's Dead Jim. And to retcon his death is to lose whatever impact it had.
AVEN - 5/19/2012, 2:00 AM
Coulson will be back as Vision?... No thanks
tylerox9 - 5/19/2012, 2:08 AM
I kinda like the idea. It would be huge. A twist that nobody saw coming. It would be the biggest twist in comicbook movie history. Nolanites are prolly afraid that if they pull this one off, it will knock down any twist Nolan made with his DK movies, which is one of the bigges tthings they got going for them.
Mego - 5/19/2012, 2:17 AM
@Durf6199 I think they purposefully left the door open for him to be alive. They were on a flying Aircraft carrier, Id think they would have enough med personnel that they would attempt to save someone from a stab wound. They called it really quick.
The DVD BLU RAY has something extra called a one shot, it could be a little story about Coulson or who knows.

@Goomba Its always possible they left the door open but will choose to leave it alone too. I liked Coulson but having people return from the dead, even if you say they were never dead is lame. But not as lame as putting a human in an android body. As for Fury, he lied in Caps face about the Hydra weapon.
Cap: "Let's start with that stick of his. It may be magical but it works an awful lot like a Hydra weapon."
Fury: "I don't know about that but it is powered by the cube."
SHIELD had Hydra weapons in their possession and Phase 2 was an attempt to create more of those weapons as like Hydra's, using the cube.
RorMachine - 5/19/2012, 2:52 AM
He's dead.
mob7medina - 5/19/2012, 2:55 AM
I Liked Coulson But he should stay dead, and If they use Vision Keep It true to the source material(Comics!)..
Mego - 5/19/2012, 2:59 AM
@Goomba Marvel Comics rapes it Cannon quite often. They rewrote Norman Osborns death and then some maniac wrote that Gwen Stacy had sex with Osborn. And they did the "Brand New Day" story and now are doing a story that says Logan not Prof X, started the X-Men. And I disagree that Marvel cares about their properties.
Marvel began putting "star creators" before their Icons in the late 80's early 90's. They let them use the characters as they saw fit. DC is guilty of this too.
Those "star creators" knew what some fanboys wanted and gave it to them because it made the "creator" more popular.
Some like to diss Raimi and others for not following comics with exact detail, but Raimi for one treated Spider-Man more respectfully than Marvel has in over 20 years and the essence of Spider-Man was alive and well in those movies and Spidey was entertaining, while not so much in most of the comics.
This was an example of Marvel not giving a damn about their biggest character when they let a writer do this scene just for another Death And Return story.

i agree y'all this is REACHING pretty [frick]ing far! just b/c we all read/love comic mythology doesnt mean "death" is the revolving door it is in the comics on screen. and yes "one good eye" comment has been referenced several times. how could you frequent this site and not see that RUMOR. leave it, he's dead! sorry but that was the emotional crux of 1, COULSON did his part. its over. and the VISION will have nothing to do with him!
dellamorte1872 - 5/19/2012, 3:20 AM
