Scarlett Johansson Recalls Thinking THE AVENGERS Would Be A Disaster

Commenting on The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson recalls being skeptical (like everyone else) when she found out what Marvel Studios had planned. Check it out!

After bringing the Russian S.H.I.E.L.D. spy to life in the cluster that was Iron Man 2, Scarlett Johansson handily went on to play Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in The Avengers last year. However, speaking with Total Film, the actress recalled being quite skeptical when Marvel first informed her of what was then their penultimate grand plan. “The idea of it is ridiculous!” she laughs. “When they told me that was the next step, I said, 'Oh, no! That is a disaster! You saw Thor, you saw Captain America, you saw Iron Man - those things don't go together!'”

Of course, she couldn't have been more wrong and she's set to reprise her Black Widow role again in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And by the time that sequel (which Total Film mag' also quotes co-director Joe Russo saying has “paranoia at the heart of its story”) hits theaters next summer, Johansson will have just started filming her fourth turn as the character in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Regarding how much she knows about the much-anticipated superhero reassembly, Scarlett admits she only learned of the new title when writer-director Joss Whedon announced it at Comic-Con. “We're so out of the loop,” she laughs. “I'm expecting delivery of the script any day now. When it comes you can guarantee It'll be read in 25 minutes.” Scarlett Johansson has likely received Whedon's script by now as this interview was conducted some time ago. What do you think?

So far starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader, The Avengers: Age of Ultron is directed by Joss Whedon from his screenplay, and is slated to begin production in March 2014 and the sequel is scheduled to release on May 1, 2015.

Should've gotten someone actually Russian
KeefNCookies - 12/20/2013, 10:25 AM
^Or atleast someone who could SOUND like they're Russian
Vegeta - 12/20/2013, 10:29 AM
I like Scarlet Johansson's Black Widow. I would have preferred a Russian accent, but I think she is good in the role. I actually think Whedon done a good job with her in The Avengers. In my opinion, she is the best written character in the movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing her in The Winter Soldier.
anthonyEstark - 12/20/2013, 10:31 AM
I think Scarlett did great as the role, and will continue to do so.

She's ok wait for tws
cdpacheco89 - 12/20/2013, 10:40 AM
I mean she is supposed to be a secret agent, a woman of many faces and she has been with SHIELD since youth so it makes sense for this version of Widow to have an American accent.
superotherside - 12/20/2013, 10:41 AM
I liked her speech to Loki. She held her own against Tom Hiddleston and that's pretty hard to do.
superotherside - 12/20/2013, 10:42 AM
So yeah she is a good actress. I like her as Black Widow.
ATrueHero1987 - 12/20/2013, 10:42 AM
@0mega Right and because of The financial & critical success of TA, FOX & Sony are coming out with their own "cinematic universe". Even WB is trying to make JL again.

SN: I remember back in 2005 when Marvel decided to do movies independently. One of the main things they said they were going to do was make solo movies that will build up to The Avengers. Then BOOM...7 years later....we got it. :)

MrCBM56- Yeah, mate. I probably wouldn't have changed it had my doppelganger not come around.

Heh, you're scowling at me with yours. He looks like he wants me off his lawn.

ItsATrap - 12/20/2013, 10:51 AM
why doesn't she have her AoU script yet? didn't ruffalo get his like a month ago?
Nomis - 12/20/2013, 10:55 AM

All comic book movies will "work" if the movie makers stick true to that formula!
kinghulk - 12/20/2013, 10:56 AM
i loved the hulk in the avengers, whedon and ruffalo made him a monster in the helicarrier scene with widow he actually looked like he would kill everything, and they made him very funny like the scene when he punches Thor.
ATrueHero1987 - 12/20/2013, 11:00 AM
All this talk of the Hulk, I am actually watching The Incredible Hulk movie right now.
cipher - 12/20/2013, 11:03 AM
Yeah, that's one of the things I really liked about the helicarrier scene..

They made him a monster. It's all dark.. he's lurkin' in the shadows, an' shit. You barely see 'im in the light. I just love the way they shot it.
TheVirgin - 12/20/2013, 11:06 AM
The Avengers was magical.
TheVirgin - 12/20/2013, 11:06 AM
Hulk/Mark Ruffalo stole the show!
Abary - 12/20/2013, 11:10 AM
Avengers? A disaster?

Curmudgeon - 12/20/2013, 11:38 AM
Back when word first came that they were developing an Avengers film (or even the solo films about Cap, Thor, Iron Man, etc.) I couldn't see how it could have possibly been done well.

And I was happily proven wrong.
kinghulk - 12/20/2013, 11:43 AM
i would like to see what whedon would do for a solo hulk film, i feel like he did a good job showing that the hulk is both a monster and a hero so i would be interested in seeing what a solo hulk from whedon would be like.

or since RDJ doesent want another solo iron man film maybe they can do a science bros film that would be cool.
leftcoastpunk - 12/20/2013, 11:44 AM
she has the script, and thats all I have to say about that.
I would hook you guys up with a couple shots of it, but I'm still trying to earn back her trust from posting those nude selfys she sent me 'while back.
Sorry guys, I have to work on "us" right now.

And go cougs!!!
Ocelot - 12/20/2013, 11:49 AM
Blunt would have been better.
patrat18 - 12/20/2013, 11:52 AM
Saw her in Don Jon. Have mercy.
NovaCorpsFan - 12/20/2013, 11:56 AM
How was she in Don Jon, actually?
Wolf38 - 12/20/2013, 11:58 AM
That brief shot in The Avengers where Black Widow is running towards the camera with Hulk behind her is one of the most absolutely awesome sets of visual frames in any CBM. Pure thrill. I just watched that again last week.

I like ScarJo, and I like her as Black Widow. It works for me.
gulducati - 12/20/2013, 12:01 PM
Admit it, we all thought Avengers was a huge question mark when we first heard it was being made.
BatmanHeisenberg - 12/20/2013, 12:14 PM
How much she was wrong. The Avengers is the best non-DC Comic Book Movie ever. Only MoS and TDKT beat it IMHO. Such an awesome movie. I hope Justice League looks how The Avengers knocked it out of the park and do something similar but a different tone and possibly grander universe, like a DC Multimedia Multiverse. How grand the idea! But while I wish she had a Russian accent, I always love Scarlett, so no big judgement. But seriously, what an awesome movie.

I would watch The Avengers tonight if I owned it, but I just got Man of Steel, so even if I did, I am binge watching Man of Steel, hell ya!
BatmanHeisenberg - 12/20/2013, 12:19 PM
It WOULD be a fail if it didn't have a fantastic cast, awesome director and great writer. A film of such big proportions would fall flat on its face if it wasn't done in a similar vein that it was.
BatmanHeisenberg - 12/20/2013, 12:21 PM
No thanks. After sending me this picture, I can't trust you...

BatmanHeisenberg - 12/20/2013, 12:22 PM
Nice cat though. Plus seeing you wave your wang in my face last time has kept me distant.
fettastic - 12/20/2013, 12:25 PM
If he would have treated it like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is what I was afraid of, it would have been a disaster of epic [frick]ing proportions.
TheRationalNerd - 12/20/2013, 12:30 PM
That Loki scene with her was so It wasn't even that dramatic! Film was still pretty good 8.5/10 for me but Age of Ultron needs to be for the fans and not the General audience! Avengers was more of blockbuster fun. Ultron needs to make these heroes lives a living hell.
Indy - 12/20/2013, 12:35 PM
Black widow she didn't belong on the avengers I think. Avenger to me is little over rated I feel it doesn't have good rewatchability its kind of boring film lot of talking and action scene drag out too long. Film just felt very long. Its good movie I enjoy it though can't wait for AOU. O and Loki my favorite parts I was rooting for him.
BatmanHeisenberg - 12/20/2013, 12:36 PM
It only has one seat, Gusto.
TheRationalNerd - 12/20/2013, 12:37 PM
They basically showed all of the good parts for Hulks action in Avengers within the trailers this time I want them to take it easy on that. The only part we didn't see was of course the Loki scene. Did Loki control the Hulk in the film!? I had a hard time understanding if that rod caused Hulk to go against Thor and Widow since Banner was supposedly able to control the Hulk now.
Nomis - 12/20/2013, 12:37 PM
@ TheBlackNerd - Are you serious....That was her best Scene for me. ;)
