Just back from watching it. I can safely say I will never trust a movie review again. This is not the best CBM of all time - and quite a distance from it. And before you start calling me a nolanite, i can assure you I'm not!
The cast do pretty well, the dialogue between the avengers is great, it's funny, some of the CGI is outstanding - but that's about it. The plot must have been written by a 5 year old. The movie is a total cheesefest.
Not worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as Watchmen, Iron Man, The Dark Knight. This was a golden opportunity to make a legendary CBM but it fails to deliver. Whedon, go hang your head in shame along with the "reviewers" who were giving it a five star review. And who was the jackass who compared Hiddleston's performance to Ledger's in the Dark Knight???? Dear Lord!
Anyway, if your an Avengers fanatic or you're under the age of 12 you should love it.
I'm back to counting the days for The Amazing SpiderMan and Prometheus. Hopefully they will live up to the hype.

Pfft like anyone will trust your opinion RossBentley. BTW the movie is online for anyone that wants to search for it.

AlexDeLarge87 - 4/27/2012, 3:55 PM
Best Iron Man suit yet! Best Hulk yet! Im definitely seeing this tomorrow!:)

Seriously what is that Leviathan thing? It looks awesome but i would like to know its backstory.
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/27/2012, 3:56 PM
Is it a robot or giant snake wearing an armor or what?

CraptainAmerica - 4/27/2012, 3:59 PM
@rossbentley: The plot does so well at interweaving every aspect that the solo outings laid. It was nothing short of genius to make a blockbuster ensemble movie work.

To say that a 5 year old could write it is so incredibly misguided it's embarrassing to hear. Hiddlestone was every bit as villainous as Ledger's Joker. The point you miss is that they are two, although comic based, very different types of movies.

I refuse to listen to the ramblings of someone who, probably, counts 'Chocolat' in their top 10 movies of all time (because they're pretentious like that). And someone who can't differentiate between YOUR and YOU'RE.
JudgeDeath - 4/27/2012, 3:59 PM
@yossarian. I'm only giving my honest opinion. I didn't like it. But hey, what would I know, I watch outdated alien movies because I'm a nolanite.... does not compute...
BassMan - 4/27/2012, 4:04 PM
@stark link???
JudgeDeath - 4/27/2012, 4:04 PM
@Crap - I think YOU'RE wrong, I don't rate Chocolat in my top ten. It's actually at eleven on my list. ;)
CraptainAmerica - 4/27/2012, 4:04 PM
@yossarian: Don't let any negatives sway your excitement. Despite some VERY minor flaws it delivers beyond what your expectations could be. I had high expectations prior to viewing and it outdone those completely. It's easy for me to seem biased but it really is that good.

Every aspect of each character seems heightened. Parts of them that felt underdone in the solo outings, even though I loved them all, are ironed out. The way they work even further character's evolution into this movie without confusing the overall arc of the story is so well done you won't even notice its happened until you leave the cinema and replay it in your head.

Different strokes for different folks and all but I'd pay attention to the majority. 5 years was definitely worth the wait. It delivers far beyond what it should have.
Frogman - 4/27/2012, 4:07 PM
@GUNSMITH Hulk hardly talks at all.
Gerrit - 4/27/2012, 4:07 PM
@RossBentley, you start by being so polite and then you tell the reviewers who thought the movie was good should be ashamed and calls everyone who liked the movie a 12 year old? Nolanite.
CraptainAmerica - 4/27/2012, 4:07 PM
@RossBentley: sandwiched between 'The Piano', 'Freddy Got Fingered' and some obscure 1960's french gangster noir flick no doubt.
nld3 - 4/27/2012, 4:09 PM
teabag, Your right this Hulk would kick Abomination's butt. That's why we need the real Abomination.

Frogman - 4/27/2012, 4:10 PM
And RossBentley didn't like it, accept it and move on. How does it make him a Nolanite? Not everything is to do with the petty Marvel/DC war.
Gerrit - 4/27/2012, 4:12 PM
@AlexDeLarge87, I have to disagree with you, I still prefer the Mark. VI. And the Leviathan is a living creature with armor, at least that's what the filmmakers wnated it to be from the talks of the characters and the way the Leviathans act.
Gerrit - 4/27/2012, 4:14 PM
@Frogman he's not a nolanite for not liking the movie, but for insulting everyone who did like the movie. It is uncalled for.
JudgeDeath - 4/27/2012, 4:18 PM
@Gerrit - that wasn't intended as an insult. What I meant was that if you really love the Avengers then the movie will push all your buttons but that it lacks the intelligence of the likes of Watchmen and Iron Man and Dark Knight. Apologies - didn't mean to be offending anyone.
I was just really looking forward to the movie and it didn't live up to my expectations.

And I'm not a "nolanite"! !!
Frogman - 4/27/2012, 4:19 PM
@Gerrit he said if you're an AVENGERS FANATIC or under the age of 12. I'm not ashamed to be called an Avengers fanatic because I thought the film was awesome.
95 - 4/27/2012, 4:23 PM

Sad to hear you didn't like it. I think I'll enjoy, well I hope I will. I read several plot summaries and I think "written by a five year old" is a little harsh. The interweaving of character arcs and storylines, the pop culture references, and theme of civilization kneeling to a superior power is well done on Whedon's part.

Perhaps your disappointment is from your personal experience at the theater? Bad sound system? Noisy kids? Expectations too high? Either way, I can somewhat understand your disappointment.

Can't wait for Superhero Registration story arc!
ejayinc - 4/27/2012, 4:25 PM
@batzach I scrolled down to quote that exact line!
And @RB78 I know that's your opinion but I honestly thought that they did very well with the plot. They stick the the original conflict regarding having the Hulk as part of the team and of course what brought the Avengers together in the first place was the attempts to stop Loki. So in terms of plotting a story that would please both Avengers fan and those who just want to see a good movie, I think they did fairly well, more than fairly well in fact. They kept it simple in terms of casting, as instead of introducing a wide scope of Avengers team members they stuck to the characters that the majority would be familiar with except of Hawkeye who some people may not recognise as apart from his minor role in Thor, the majority of non-Avenger fans may not be familiar with him. The cast, as you say, do a great job and the CGI will definitely be a mark of how good future productions will be but I do think that judging the story against Watchmen, Iron Man and Dark Knight possibly sells both the movie and yourself short. With Watchmen, Tse and Hatyer had the freedom to create a different, much darker DC universe as they did not have previous movies to accommodate. The same goes for Dark Knight as every new production of a Batman movies gives a new lease to the not only the character but the story surrounding him. And Iron Man, well Tony Stark really just does whatever the hell he wants to be honest.
(Sorry for the essay but I just wanted to say what I felt!)

OnLeatherWings - 4/27/2012, 4:25 PM
Hulk looks incredibly fake in that pic. Hopefully not so in the movie????
JudgeDeath - 4/27/2012, 4:26 PM
@Yoss. It's not The Phantom Menace. Don't worry about that!
Jeez, you just brought back some bad memories of sifting through the prehistoric version of the internet for months looking for stills and footage for the Phantom Menace only to poked in the eyes by Lucas when I finally got to see that crapfest!
JudgeDeath - 4/27/2012, 4:30 PM
@3D - do not get me started with the noisy kids. Some dipsh!t went and left a gang of 10 year olds on their own in the back row. And you know how that goes!
Jollem - 4/27/2012, 4:31 PM
for once it's not black widow pointing her butt at ya
NeoBaggins - 4/27/2012, 4:31 PM
They make it too easy to see this online. I had to tear myself away after a good 20 minutes of gawking. Luckily the action hadn't kicked in.
JudgeDeath - 4/27/2012, 4:32 PM
@ejayinc - I don't think I'm selling myself short by comparing it to those movies. Others have been comparing it to them so I felt like responding to the comparisons.
I agree with you that the tone of Avengers is completely different to them.
Anyway, I gave my opinion and I stand by it. But we all have different opinions.
