Stellan Skarsgård 'Erik Selvig' To Return (And Go Nude?) In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Stellan Skarsgård 'Erik Selvig' To Return (And Go Nude?) In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

The Swedish thespian has confirmed that he'll make his fourth appearance as Dr. Erik Selvig in the anticipated Avengers sequel, and also hints that he'll strip down like he did Thor: The Dark World.

It seems writer/director Joss Whedon has worked yet another familiar face into next year's highly-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron as Stellan Skaresgård has confirmed that he will reprise his Thor: The Dark World role as Dr. Erik Selvig in the already jampacked Marvel sequel. During an interview with Total Film magazine, the Swedish actor was asked how he got involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And after explaining that Thor director Kenneth Branagh had wanted him for the role, Skarsgård admitted, “I didn’t have much clue about the Marvel universe at that time.” He then added, “What I said to Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, was, 'All those superheroes? Still in those comic books? Can you make money out of that?' The whole table just froze and looked at me as if I was an idiot. But you sign on for at least five films, I think. Or I did. I’m going to do my fourth. I’m going to be in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, a small appearance. It’s something really nice. Even if it’s owned by Disney now, it’s really run by four or five people, and they know exactly what they’re doing. I like working with them because if I have a problem with the scene, I have Kevin Feige’s number. I can call the head of the studio. You can’t do that when you work on a normal Disney film or with Warner Bros or Paramount.”

The Total Film interviewer then joked, "You run around in your pants in the second one a lot…," referring to Thor: The Dark World. Stellan replied seemingly hinting that he'll go nude again in Avengers: Age of Ultron like he did last year. “Yeah, I was naked again,” he said. “They called my agent and said, 'Do you think Stellan will mind being naked?' My agent laughed his head off. Yeah, I almost insist! Sometimes with a contract you get a nudity clause, which is fantastic. It’s supposed to protect me from having my genitals exploited, which I doubt anybody would make a dime on.” Skarsgård was then asked if he could reveal anything about Age of Ultron. First of all, I don’t know what I’m allowed to say, he started. But usually they call me in if they need something explained. There’s a lot of explanations to do when it comes to that universe.” Anyhow, it's interesting that Dr. Erik Selvig is returning, given that the titular villain is more technology-based. Of course, besides possibly going nude, he will probably share scenes with Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder, who is rumored to be going through a breakup in The Avengers sequel. It's also worth noting that several Asgardian background extras have been cast in Age of Ultron. What do you think?

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.

I find his character annoying.
Marqy - 8/16/2014, 11:10 AM
A repeated joke isnt funny anymore ... not that it was very funny in Thor. The Dark World
Lozzy - 8/16/2014, 11:11 AM
Oh god, naked Selvig was one of the worst things in Thor 2! Don't bring it back!
Scarilian - 8/16/2014, 11:12 AM
He'll strip down alright... to flesh and bone xD

(Rumoured spoiler)

Apparently according to some rumours floating around his character is vaporized by Ultron in a rather gruesome scene and similar to Coulson's death giving the team motivation - Selvig's death will be used to cause Thor to enter a rage against Ultron.
Marqy - 8/16/2014, 11:13 AM

Well .. in that case ... Ill allow it :)
sjoerdo0 - 8/16/2014, 11:13 AM
lol again
PymParticle - 8/16/2014, 11:14 AM
They really dont have to kill off side characters. It's [frick]ing pointless and i could not care less.

Really. Don't give a shit.

It's even worse if they're brought back and then set to lead an even more horrible TV show.
WeddingTux - 8/16/2014, 11:15 AM
@Lozzy shut yer pouch ya cud-chewing bastard!
Pasto - 8/16/2014, 11:16 AM
Gonna hop on the bandwagon of using this gif today.

But if what Scar said is even remotely accurate, then I'll allow this.
JAC - 8/16/2014, 11:16 AM
Who gives a [frick]? He was extremely annoying in the Thor movies & The Avengers.
sjoerdo0 - 8/16/2014, 11:17 AM
how do you guys thing the marvel cinematic universe phase 2 collection will look like. I think it will be starlord his boombox or something
JediPhilosopher - 8/16/2014, 11:17 AM
I've heard a lot more good things than bad, so I'll hold off judgement. Done the right way, this could be funny. Somebody looks at him and says "Are you naked AGAIN?"

Doopie - 8/16/2014, 11:20 AM
I like him. Thor 2 didn't do him many favours though
Pasto - 8/16/2014, 11:24 AM
Show Title ideas: "The One With the Scientist", "Scientists of S.H.I.E.L.D", "I Am Selvig", or my favorite, "The Erik Show".
JoJo1982 - 8/16/2014, 11:26 AM
Smh at this

I hope Scar is right about his faith though
DCGuy - 8/16/2014, 11:27 AM

Mike89 - 8/16/2014, 11:29 AM
Smh....... really?
ALegendaryPanda - 8/16/2014, 11:29 AM
Oh..... [frick]ing wonderful..

CarlXVIGarfield - 8/16/2014, 11:35 AM
The quote was "Yeah, I was naked again" ... again in Thor 2, he didn't mean in a Marvel movie, just that he's been naked in movies before, a couple of Swedish ones at least.

Relax people.
Ramiel - 8/16/2014, 11:35 AM
So, Jane breaks up with Thor and Selvig dies in this movie. I think Marvel has been hearing my cries. Let's see what happens with Darcy. I hope she gets stepped on by
Dingbat - 8/16/2014, 11:35 AM
Not that I care much for his character anyway but they really ruined him in Thor 2. Everyone in that movie was a cartoon character.
ALmazing - 8/16/2014, 11:36 AM
AoU is my most anticipated film next year but...

Marqy - 8/16/2014, 11:37 AM

Poor Thor ... All the non-avengers people he cares about on Misgard will either die or leave him.
Marqy - 8/16/2014, 11:39 AM
I liked that scene in Thor 2 Where they see some crazy shit, he dumps all those pills and goes " Theres not a more reassuring moment like when you realize that the world is craziers than you" or something like that. That was cool :)
Ramiel - 8/16/2014, 11:39 AM

All this excites me. The Thor movies need to get far away from science as possible. Thor should be FANTASY and not sci-fi.
GliderMan - 8/16/2014, 11:39 AM
[frick]ing A, they're gonna do some Avengers army bullshit. I [frick]ing hate that.
Pasto - 8/16/2014, 11:41 AM
Why do people hate the idea of an Avengers army? I kinda like it.
Marqy - 8/16/2014, 11:41 AM

I think elves with laserguns and spaceships are a compromise :D
sjoerdo0 - 8/16/2014, 11:42 AM
I want to know

people say that on SDCC there was a shot with stark looking over the bodies of the avengers with hawkeye kneeling besides him, I want to know

did banner also lay with the avengers or

the HULK did it
SuperDude001 - 8/16/2014, 11:43 AM
I don't mind him in Thor movies, I don't mind the actor, but it's just pointless including him in the Avengers. Not one really cares about him now, Selvig is just an annoying expositional scientist.
Ramiel - 8/16/2014, 11:44 AM

Elves with dark matter guns and spaceships was the dumbest thing I have ever seen in cinema. The Dark Elves should have used bows, blades, and magic - like they do in every other fantasy piece.
Marqy - 8/16/2014, 11:44 AM

I liked him the most in Thor. He was like the big daddy protecting Jane and a sceptical scientist but then he became even cooler when he saved Thor and they went drinking.
GliderMan - 8/16/2014, 11:44 AM
@Pasto Too many people.

DUmbest thing ever in a cinema ? Wow ... ok, good for you.

McNyagano - 8/16/2014, 11:47 AM
Well he's probably going to be killed off in AOU.
