Thanos' Reveal In THE AVENGERS Most Paused Movie Moment Of 2012

Thanos' Reveal In THE AVENGERS Most Paused Movie Moment Of 2012

What Culture have posted their top 10 most paused moments of 2012 - even though not all of the films have actually hit home release yet. Anyway, their top 3 are from movies we have covered here on CBM. See what the other two are after the jump..

Unsurprisingly, a lot of the top 10 consists of nudity and or sex scenes - Megan Fox's boob grope in This Is 40 for example. But a few others are CBM related, and Thanos' appearance in the mid-credits scene of Marvel's The Avengers takes the no. 1 spot..

What they say..

"The previous sequences left us thrilled and confused in varying measures, but no film elicited as many “WTF?” responses as the end of The Avengers (or, sorry, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble), which in its mid-credits sequence made it clear where the evil chain of command led, to this helmet-clad figure who bemused just as many people as he excited.

The nerds were at once screaming, “It’s Thanos!”, while more casual viewers – likely the majority of the audience – were promptly whipping out their smartphones to try and figure out who it was. Indeed, it’s the briefest of glimpses and a pretty ambiguous scene on the whole, so it’s no surprise that this had so many of us pausing our Blu-Rays when it finally hit stores."

The 2 and 3 spots were taken by Prometheus and Cabin In The Woods. The latter being that brief shot of the whiteboard which reveals the various monster names..

..and from Ridley Scott's sci-fi flick, we have that final shot of "The Deacon" - the creature that may eventually evolve into the Xenomorph Queen from the Alien movies..

Joss Whedon sure knows how to catch the eye.
AztecRainGod - 12/30/2012, 4:15 PM
Thanos in the end credits= Great idea.

The way Thanos looked in those end credits= Epic Shitty failure.

Thanos does NOT have baby blue eyes, or human sized hands. SMH, they better fix this shit next time he makes an appearance.
DylansMyDog - 12/30/2012, 4:24 PM
@aztec I dunno what your on about thanos looked perfect
13echo - 12/30/2012, 4:24 PM
No breast shots?! That's what I pause on!
MrYurMomm - 12/30/2012, 4:25 PM
Yes! Thanos baby, ftw! And the Decon pic is pretty BA in my book, could've fooled me into thinking that was prosthetics! :p
BANE5000 - 12/30/2012, 4:30 PM

Thats what I also noticed about Thanos, I'm sure hes supposed to be an enormous figure, maybe about as big as Hulk but he had these average size hands and arms...Not sure if that was on purpose or just got lazy after post production, but if those are gonna fill wat looks be a big Infinity Gaunlet that was displayed at Comic Con, I hope they fix by his next appearance.

Nit picking I know, but all in all Thanos looked awesome and perfect for the big screem in just that one shot :]
marvel72 - 12/30/2012, 4:30 PM
that thanos moment just got me so hyped for what is to come from marvel studios.

best after the credits scene ever!
Wildaniel - 12/30/2012, 4:30 PM
Kinda sucks that everyone here in the USA knew Thanos was in it cause the film was released first overseas. Still it was awesome seeing it in theaters!
AC1 - 12/30/2012, 4:31 PM
Yeah, I remember thinking Thanos had freakishly small hands... maybe that's why he wants the Infinity Gauntlet; to make them look bigger?!
BANE5000 - 12/30/2012, 4:32 PM
Quick Question:

I've been curious to watch Cabin in the Woods but haven't gotten around to it, is it worth the watch?
jimpinto24 - 12/30/2012, 4:33 PM
When I saw Thanos make his debut in the mid-credits of The Avengers, I thought to myself..."Holy sh*t!!! It's Thanos!" Great moment.
marvel72 - 12/30/2012, 4:34 PM
@ bane5000

yup best horror film this year, should also checkout v/h/s stick with it because that has got some f*cked up shit going on in it.
superotherside - 12/30/2012, 4:35 PM
Awesome. Thanos himself would be pleased.
ATrueHero1987 - 12/30/2012, 4:38 PM
I will never forget what one of my sisters said "OMG it's Hellboy"lol.
ThePowerCosmic - 12/30/2012, 4:43 PM
The Thanos scene was my favorite moment in a CBM yet! I was so excited to know that there is a big universe out there that will be recognized in the MCU.

I do wish that Thanos eyes were Black like in the comics. The hands didn't bother me because if he looked exactly like he did in the comics it might look a bit ridiculous or too cartoony. Every character will change a bit for live action film. If they make him look like the concept art I have seen I would be very happy. Mainly I was just so happy it was Thanos pulling the strings!!!
marvel72 - 12/30/2012, 4:43 PM
@ marvel87

XD hahahaha brilliant!
BigDamnHero - 12/30/2012, 4:47 PM
@ bane5000

Best horror film years. Watch it, you won't regret it dude. After The Avengers, it's my favorite movie of the year.
Toxin - 12/30/2012, 4:49 PM
That Cabin board was awesome. I love the inclusion of "Deadites" and Angry Molesting Tree" and for some reason "Kevin" made me laugh for far too long.

@Bane5000 Cabin is worth a watch for sure, especially if your a Whedon fan.
Ha1frican - 12/30/2012, 4:56 PM
The deacon is the only reason im even consideing watching the Prometheus sequel
genesis609 - 12/30/2012, 5:00 PM
thanos hadda human little hand lol and looked way to small, he needs to be big as hulk.... I HOPE
Durf - 12/30/2012, 5:04 PM
The Thanos reveal was epic as shit. Also, the Cabin board is awesome.

@BANE5000: Yes, definitely see Cabin In the Woods. Great movie!

@Kamen: that scene is so epic
Toxin - 12/30/2012, 5:08 PM
@kamen I dont know if you ever watched the Buffy series (I ummmmm.... Watched it with my wife haha) but that scene made me think of the "Initiative" break out and how awesome it could have been if the series had more money.
SageMode - 12/30/2012, 5:14 PM
Never did i think id be seeing Thanos on the big screen anytime soon, but Whedon made it possible. Much props.
Durf - 12/30/2012, 5:18 PM
@ZincSaucier: Can't tell what it is either, but it's something that jumps
thewonderer - 12/30/2012, 5:18 PM
Wait so was there ever an explanation as to why Thanos has human hands?
BANE5000 - 12/30/2012, 5:18 PM
Ok thanx everyone, i will have to check out Cabin in the Woods for sure :D
DioFoRio - 12/30/2012, 5:27 PM
@Wonderer handle your tiny penis
comiccow6 - 12/30/2012, 5:27 PM
What's the best thing on the board? Sexy witches.
rockerdude22 - 12/30/2012, 5:32 PM
Are you guys sure those were Thanos' hands? Maybe those were The Other's hands as he was kneeling down. Just a thought.

But yeah, Thanos' appearance was awesome! He's my favorite comic book villain, so I'm excited to see where they'll take his character!
Durf - 12/30/2012, 5:36 PM
@rocker: Yeah I'm not sure either. Also I don't get the whole "the hands were too small" thing. What was there to compare them too?
Gamma022 - 12/30/2012, 5:44 PM
The Redneck Torture Family
MyInnerDork - 12/30/2012, 5:59 PM
Most paused moment? Are you freakin' kidding me?!
Ranger14 - 12/30/2012, 6:13 PM
"Plus, it came out in 2011"

Umm...April of 2012.

Dionysios@ Best comeback of 2012! lol
Supes17 - 12/30/2012, 6:19 PM
How do they know?
Battabing - 12/30/2012, 6:24 PM
Most paused moment?
That is NOT a f.ucking category for ANYTHING!!
CaptainObvious - 12/30/2012, 6:30 PM
@ManOfSuperguy- That was the whole point of the movie. The Angry Gods were a metaphor for the audience who just want the same thing over and over. Marty (the stoner) is supposed to represent those who want something new from the horror genre.

Also, the reason they didn't save humanity was because if it all came down to sacrificing others for the "greater good", then maybe humanity is not worth saving and things need to change.
Mrcool210 - 12/30/2012, 6:32 PM
promtehius and cabin in the woods are not cbm
marvel72 - 12/30/2012, 6:55 PM
@ rockerdude22

its a bit tricky to tell who's hand that is? it could be the other's hand but it does look like thanos is pushing down with his hand while rising from his throne.
