THE AVENGERS Initial Concept Sketches Revealed

Although nothing too exciting, hit the jump and check out a few initial concept sketches seemingly created back when Marvel's The Avengers much-anticipated superhero assembly was just an idea!

Roughly one month and a half remains until Marvel Studios' "best outing yet," The Avengers, hits theaters worldwide. And although we have a great deal of promotional material to ogle over, with more to come, leading up to that day, it's always nice to see what was once the only visual representation of a movie. And now, thanks to Les Toiles Héroïques' French press kit, check out a few concept sketches seeing the team assembled.

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to "Marvel's The Avengers," Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including "Iron Man 3" on May 3, 2013!; and “Thor 2” on November 15, 2013.

While all these images are certainly very cool,I'm surprised that Marvel didn't hire Alex Ross to do the Avengers movie poster. I would have bought a DOZEN of those,easily...

These concept sketches have more heart than the posters and Cap's suit still has more impact than the final version. I remember the first promo/costume pics that leaked when Captain America was sin production. The costume in the last image has hints of that costume. That was so much better. I don't want to beat a dead horse but I still think he got the short end when it comes to the design of his modern day uniform. I have the art of the movie book and there were some good designs in there...
