The Future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: AKA Jessica Jones

The Future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: AKA Jessica Jones

Marvel's The Avengers is releasing in the next couple of months, and after that Iron Man, Thor, and the other heroes will all return to their solo movies. But what about the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? What new heroes will join it? In this series of Editorials I look at possible Movies and TV Shows Marvel has shown interest in and discuss how they could affect the future of the MCU.

Many fans are speculating as to where the Marvel Cinematic Universe will go next - Ant Man? Black Panther? Dr. Strange? Guardians of the Galaxy? The list goes on. Today I'm going to be looking at the upcoming Marvel TV show AKA Jessica Jones, based on the Alias comic seies, which will be set in the MCU.

In 2010, reports came out that Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter of Twilight, was working on a series called AKA Jessica Jones, based on the Alias comic series. And later last year, she confirmed that AKA Jessica Jones would be set in the MCU. SO, what does this mean?

To start, the most obvious is probably cameos and references. Rosenberg has said Stark Industries will be featured in the pilot, and would play a big role. But it also means we could see Agent Coulson or Maria Hill in an episode, other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Heroes and Villains!

Next up: Luke Cage and Ms. Marvel. Both of these heroes will have a part in the series, and this definatley helps set up the MCU further. Cast actors willing to feature in movies, and actors who are GOOD in their roles, and we could see this Luke Cage popping up in a Heroes for Hire movie, or Ms. Marvel in The Avengers 2. The show would also be able to introduce other new characters, who could then go on to feature in the movies. Iron Fist, for example, could feature in an episode, further increasing chance of a Heroes for Hire movie. The chances of lesser known characters being introduced in the MCU would be much higher.

And for one final point, it could also help flesh out events that happen in the movies, even if briefly. For example, how the World goes on after Loki and his army invade in The Avengers. It would only need to be one or two lines but it would make this universe seem even more fleshed out.

So these are my ideas on how AKA Jessica Jones could expand upon the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Any thoughts of your own? Leave them in the comments below!

Nice job, but watch your grammar. If Avengers is successful, (and I'm optimistic it will be) the possibilities for the Marvel cinematic universe will be endless.

It will be a great way to fill in any gaps that the movies can't squish in. A way to introduce a character that they can

I don't really know much about this character but I'm really quite excited to see what the MCU can bring us. I'd love for it to be expanded on to the small screen and if this is the way it's going to be done then I'm up for it, as long as it isn't cramming stuff in for the sake of it

Awesome. Anything they can do to enrich the universe is a good idea in my opinion. It's almost like an HBO series where you develop relationships with the characters and the world they live in. It will be advantages for Marvel as well because you'll have fans introduced to characters they've not neccessarily been fans of before through the ones they are fans already. I wasn't a Thor fan AT ALL before seeing the movie and now he's one of my favorite characters. I probably wouldnt have even seen it if not for Hulk and Iron Man. Just my 2 cents.

I just hope that if the AKA Jessica Jones show introduces a multitude of characters that the series does not result as a "Marvel" version of Smallville.

@Intruder, here:

"Marvel TV properties in general will exist within the Marvel Universe in comics. That’s the continuity we watch," Loeb added, putting to rest any speculation that the series will be connected to The Avengers movie in any way. "There’s nothing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that goes against the publishing Marvel Universe, so we’d pretty much follow in that way."

Not that the statment makes much sense... but it is Loeb. Though if the other stuff isnt in the MCU id like to think the TV would all be in the same universe
