Tom Hiddleston Talks More About Loki's Motivations In MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS

Hit the jump to read Tom Hiddleston's take on how Loki's nefarious plans change between the events of THOR and Marvel's The Avengers, as well as how the villain copes with taking on the superhero team.

In the latest issue of SFX Magazine, Tom Hiddleston has talked more about his role as Loki in Marvel's The Avengers. Commenting on how the God of Mischief evolves following the conclusion of Thor, as well as the way the villain faces off against each member of the superhero team, the British actor offers up a fascinating insight into what we can expect from Loki this coming April.

"There is a personal engine but it's behind a degree of megalomania. When you see Loki let go of that spear at the end of Thor, he lets go of Asgard, he lets go of Asgard and his need for that place and his attachment and need for the affection and respect of Odin and his brother. As he disappears in that wormhole, that's a literal way of saying, "I'm done. Asgard is gone and I have other things to do." At the beginning of The Avengers, you see the beginnings of what Loki is planning and if he doesn't belong in Asgard, where might he belong? In that tragic place of confusion of "Where do I belong in this universe?" Loki's answer is "I will make myself belong", which dark and menacing and dangerous.

"I think Loki is very flexible and adaptable to the present context. With each Avenger, he faces a different threat, a different strategy and methodology. Some pose more of a threat than others in his mind, but they all have their own unique superpowers. I say it's like tennis. You'll never play the same game of tennis with a new and different opponent. The magic happens in the space between you, not just with the characters but the actors too."

MovieMann - 3/8/2012, 3:14 PM
I don't understand the hype for this guy.

Sure, he delivered a solid preformance.

But I can't find one scene with him where I just think "Wow, this guy is freaking great"
Ghostfire - 3/8/2012, 3:23 PM
Very true. We do get the blu rays before you, but I still hate you brits for getting The Avengers first!......DAMN YOU!!!

Cant wait for this Movie to come out !
Zarog - 3/8/2012, 3:33 PM
@Moviemann Because his character was actually nuanced. Watch the scene with Loki and Thor together right after Thor flips over the table. He's good at conveying what's really going on in the scene.
gunner - 3/8/2012, 3:33 PM
Hail Hydra ?
Hail Loki !!
finaljustice671 - 3/8/2012, 3:34 PM

Vence - 3/8/2012, 3:40 PM
I like it.
Ghostfire - 3/8/2012, 3:42 PM
My thoughts exactly. One would think it would be a worldwide release, but hey, there's nothing we can do about it. Let's just rejoice that we have an Avengers flick. So enjoy it bud, and let us know how it turns out.
Ghostfire - 3/8/2012, 3:56 PM
I agree with that IM53.
GreyChaos13Zero - 3/8/2012, 4:05 PM

Tom Hiddleston is so [frick]ing awesome. And awesome in the role.
Ghostfire - 3/8/2012, 5:39 PM
So true, but the sad part is, that others don't see it that way. They have their heads so far up their asses that they don't realize that we are actually spoiled for getting all these great films.
luckylu - 3/8/2012, 6:33 PM

hiddleston is go awesome. as a long standing thor fan boy he was so great as loki i could forgive the few missteps the thor movie had. him being the villian for the avengers is the best thing the flick has going for it.

xXkryptoniteXx - 3/9/2012, 3:35 AM

I agree his a great actor that added more into Thor then anything, his performance is great it's just they should have more of him or even his change to a good guy to a bad guy. The ending with his confrontation with Thor in the was great as well. I can't wait for the avengers.
MB007 - 3/9/2012, 4:18 AM

So has anyone thought of the theory that Howard Stark's flying car (in CATFA) at the Stark expo is using the same technology that the helacarrier uses to fly in Avengers?
crazyray - 3/9/2012, 7:01 AM
