TVLine is at Television Critics Association’s winter press tour where ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee talked about a slew of upcoming ABC shows. One of which is Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. show. Lee said that the show has been fast tracked and will be ready for reviews a lot earlier than some of the other shows on the lineup. He also went on to praise the shows script, which he called "Great".

With out giving too much away Lee also said there will be, "a lot of funny male/female relationships." Be on the look out for a lot of action with the series as well. ABC is looking to get this as a co-viewed show, which means parents you can watch it with your kids, with Lee saying, "Marvel has the ability to bring the whole family." The show has been cast already with the major headline being that Clark Gregg will be making an appearance on the show. For the latest on the series make sure to check back here at CBM.

Deadline has gotten a few more quotes from Lee who says Whedon is already working on more episodes. "I don’t want to jinks it we’re very excited about it. Joss is already working on (extra) scripts for the series," he said. He also said that Whedon is very engaged in the project and that he has enjoyed returning to television.

well, that was sure nice of mr. lee to say
Reasonnnn - 1/10/2013, 11:53 AM
Of course a higher-up exec will say the script is great. He said a whole lot of nothing.
Temple - 1/10/2013, 11:57 AM
Will wait and see. I imagine the show to be buffy meets the marvel universe, and you get shield.
MiracleMe - 1/10/2013, 12:00 PM
Clark Gregg making an appearance? I thought he was starring!
And will we see Maria Hill? I LOVE me some Cobie Smulders.
Durf - 1/10/2013, 12:04 PM
Of course he did. Why wouldn't he say nice things about it? That being said, I'm actually excited to see the show
TonyChu - 1/10/2013, 12:06 PM
If its anything like Firey then I'm in.
FirstAvenger - 1/10/2013, 12:07 PM
When does the pilot premier?
StarkRaving - 1/10/2013, 12:14 PM
He might not have said it the script was "great" if Whedon had turned in something that was very different from what they expected and asked him to make revisions. He might have just said "the script is being polished" or "the script is in development", which wouldn't have raised anyone's eyebrows at this stage.

Clark Gregg is starring in the show, but Cobie Smulders is not in it, since her character will continue in the films. The pilot will almost certainly premiere in September.

¡¡¡SEASON TWO!!!. ...¡¡¡NOW!!!
Valandil - 1/10/2013, 12:17 PM
Nobody says something actually interesting about this show: plot, timeline, Marvel characters, etc...
TheFascinatingMan - 1/10/2013, 12:19 PM
@TFA97 I'm guessing it will premire in Fall. Look for it to be like a Friday or weekend night sort-of-deal

Personally I'm extremely excited about this show. I hope that it is successfull. And a fanboy can hope that this could developed into a nerd-night with maybe a back-to-back of SHIELD and Star Wars.
RorMachine - 1/10/2013, 12:25 PM
StarkRaving, nah, he'd still have said it was great.
mr2324jgf - 1/10/2013, 12:26 PM
lol, a show exec. Couldn't you imagine the opposite? So pres Lee, what do you think of the new show you're putting out!? "It's meh." - said, Lee. There you have it folks, no reason to tune in! It's a good thing they have "don't trust the b in apt 23" or that network would flounder! /sarcasm
IronHood - 1/10/2013, 12:32 PM
@BaneSmash Totally lol.

My concern is it has "a lot of funny male/female relationships." & with action? So it's an action comedy?

I don't think it should have too much "funny". Maybe just some light comedy could work. What is it with Marvel always trying to be so light hearted & shying away from the dark? Oh yeah that's right, Disney hates live action dark & gritty. Or don't they & I just don't know any of Disney's 'dark' projects.

All I can think of are those Pixar, animated/stop motion movies. But if they can make Animation dark then why not live action, anyone know any examples?
Metalvodka - 1/10/2013, 12:52 PM
Doesn't that sheild logo look awfully a lot like the logo on the Hall of Justice in DREDD? Loved DREDD and looking forward to SHEILD..
AC1 - 1/10/2013, 12:57 PM
I get the feeling that if this show is successful and continues after How I Met Your Mother ends this or next year, we could see Cobie Smulder transferring over to this role and Maria Hill being upgraded to a main cast member on the show. Also, is it true that Samuel L Jackson wants some kind of involvement? I heard he wanted Nick Fury to have a role similar to Charlie in Charlie's Angels.
AC1 - 1/10/2013, 12:59 PM
@jphoenix667 because none of their projects so far would have fit a dark tone, nor did they need one? Not everything needs to be dark, and The Avengers certainly isn't the type of franchise you'd expect to go into 'The Dark Knight' territory. Marvel have plenty of 'dark' characters; they just haven't gotten around to using them yet.
DanteSparda - 1/10/2013, 1:07 PM
@jphoenix667: "What is it with Marvel always trying to be so light hearted & shying away from the dark?"

So far it have worked for them, but then again Marvel's Phase Two looks a little darker than Phase One, just look at the Iron Man 3 trailer for starters, then we have Thor: The Dark World which looks more serious than it's predecessor and also it's being helmed by Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor, then we have Captain America: The Winter Soldier which is based on the comic book arc of the same name, a story far darker and grittier than that of the first movie, then we have Guardians of the Galaxy and judging just by the fact that James Gunn is directing I'm sure there will be some dark and/or mature themes in it, finally we have the Avengers 2 and Joss Whedon have already said that he want it to be very different from the first one, more personal, so probably it won't be as light hearted as the first.

Note that I'm not saying that Marvel is getting gritty and all serious, I'm just saying that is geting a little more serious, I think it would be safe to compare Marvel's Phase One with the Golden Age of comics and Phase Two with the Silver Age in terms of tone and plots.

I thought the accused was a love story between a few men a woman and a pinball machine
DioFoRio - 1/10/2013, 1:09 PM
@DioDickshus...that wasn't funny

Give us a trailer already!!
HavocPrime - 1/10/2013, 1:25 PM
Really looking forward to this show, but i really hope it doesn't turn out like Smallville.
Inhuman - 1/10/2013, 1:35 PM
i wonder when this series takes place. if coulson is in it then its obviously during phase 1
MatioShack - 1/10/2013, 1:35 PM
They could really use this show to flesh out some stuff from the movie universe. Abomination in lock up? What happened to Stone's armor from Iron Man 1? Stuff like that. They could also use it to set up stuff for Phase 2. Or they could do a Warehouse 13/X-Files thing where they're coming across and covering up the existence of famous Marvel artifacts (like Thor's hammer). I'm stoked.
RPD - 1/10/2013, 1:38 PM
It probably IS good...
RamonSuarez - 1/10/2013, 3:09 PM
As usual so many of you miss the point.

Who cares if Lee said the script was "great"?

Its the fact that he's fastracking it for production that actually shows he believes in the show.

AUSSYACE - 1/10/2013, 3:35 PM
The script may be cool until Sam Jackson steps in and tells them how it's gonna be and when he wants to appear etc...

siggisuperman - 1/10/2013, 3:41 PM
Joss Whedon has already started working on more episodes. That is fantastic. Most guys in his position would just do some work on the pilot and then move on or take a vacation. This show will rock..!
Chewtoy - 1/10/2013, 3:50 PM
You guys do know that shows at this stage aren't done deals, right? There are a bunch of new shows for next year handing in pilot scripts and only the good ones will get pilots made, let alone make it to series after that. There's no real reason to think "Of course he's going to say it's great!" when (if) he's the same guy who will look at the pilot later and have to say "Yeah, this show isn't worth a time slot" if it doesn't work.

The only reason to plug it publicly is if he really does think it's going to be a good show and so will almost definitely be on the fall schedule.
DanteSparda - 1/10/2013, 4:23 PM
"This show is going to live or die by its cameos."

That's the dumbest thing I have heard in this entire topic, seriously I'm rooting to see the cameos just as everybody else but in the hands of Joss Whedon I'm pretty sure this show would do fine even without them.
TMW1987ProudProWrestlingFan - 1/10/2013, 5:21 PM
Really cannot wait for this show!

Personally, was never a fan of Buffy & never got into it, but I know it had a huge following & its fans loved it & Whedon knew what he was doing.

LOVED Firefly & Serenity.

Have high hopes & faith for this.

Like everybody else though, still hoping for some at least Cameo appearances from Super Powered Heroes & Villiains in some way or form.

Reckon they have the cash to at least pay to have 1 or 2 episode appearances every so often for the likes of Cap, Iron Man, Thor, etc?

I was hoping Cobie would get a lot of time as Maria Hill in the show & surely Sam has to have some role, it is SHIELD after all so ya kinda need Nick Fury.

I know it's not the main goal or purpose they're going for, but I hope that somewhere down the line they try to intergrate the TV Universe & the MCU together, that would be the next big ground breaking step to achieve after doing an interlocking movie universe & managing to assemble (no pun intended) the Avengers finally on the big screen.
scapegoatjones - 1/10/2013, 5:21 PM
if this show rocks they would be fools to not do some sort of Damage Control spin-off.
cleaning up the chaos, the public perspective of all these super powered catastrophes, they could use it to use as auto-viewing saps for sure.
mgeoff88 - 1/10/2013, 11:51 PM
This sounds like it will be the same style as The Avengers. Very nice.

With everyone trying to make movies and TV shows dark these days, this show will be a welcome change.
ComicBookGoth - 1/11/2013, 6:40 AM
just hope there are Powered characters featured.

be them villains or extras.

i trust joss.
i just hope its not a season of shield dealing with AIM soldiers and the next is them dealing withing the resurgence of Hydra.

I'll take that happily, with good writing/acting.

but id like some hero/villains to be dealt with, if not directly on screen then within the background of the day-to-day.
Rambaldi47 - 1/11/2013, 12:51 PM
I want Spider-Woman to be on the show, preferably played by Amy Acker. And the show would be a good way to reintroduce Daredevil and Elektra.
