Depp Definitely Doing Riddler in Batman 3... If asked.

Good news for the Batman franchise! On the set of Public Enemies, Johnny Depp was asked outright if he would be the Riddler in Batman 3, and he responded, "I'd definitely juggle it."
Thanks to MTV we have this welcome news...

On the downside, Christian Bale doesn't sound hopeful for the franchise at all in THIS short interview taken at the same junket.

NOOOO i mean Does this look like the riddler to you......

teabag - 6/22/2009, 2:58 PM
HONESTLLY DEPP COULD PLAY THE RIDDLER, ID LOVE TO SEE HIM PLAY THE JOKER THOUGH, HE'S A REALLY GOOD ACTOR..HE SO COULD PULL OFF EITHER ROLE.
GUNSMITH - 6/22/2009, 3:01 PM
For some reason i dont want to see the riddler...id rather see JD pick up the reigns of the joker so that nolan can finish his 2 part tale he had envisioned.
vonstallin - 6/22/2009, 3:02 PM
Yes TeaBag... Yes it does!
shibazz - 6/22/2009, 3:02 PM
Sup shibazz

Where you been honey?

I'm not really jazzed about a Depp Riddler. Would like to see a Ryan Gosling Riddler though. Even the Hugo Weaving idea is growing on me. (props to InstigatorGIRL)
BillyBlack - 6/22/2009, 3:11 PM
the way he looked during the interview is how they should make the riddler look if he played the part, because he looks good for the role. just have the joker referenced and explained to be in arkham, maybe even have a scene of him (unseen) behind bars in a padded cell, and put in stock audio of his laughing crazily from the last movie. to me it'd be enough.

i know what you mean, vonstallin, nolan obviously had bigger plans for joker, but i wouldnt feel right with that. the joker was ledger's crowning acheivement in my opinon, let him keep it awhile.

and holy shit that mad hatter pic is something i would have nightmares of coming out from under my bed when i was younger
JeremyBentham - 6/22/2009, 3:11 PM
VON I AGREE TOTALLY..BUT FROM NOLANS VIEWPOINT...ARTISTIICALLY, AND ALSO KNOWING HEATH LEDGER AND THAT BEING HIS CAREER DEFINING ROLE..YOU THINK ALEX PROYAS WOULD DO ANOTHER CROW WITH ANOTHER ACTOR PLAYING BRANDON LEE'S ERIC DRAVEN?
GUNSMITH - 6/22/2009, 3:13 PM
I say have Calendar Man in the next one. He has a good gimick, and he could be easily interpreted onto film.
THEHAWK - 6/22/2009, 3:23 PM
That picture to me suggests he could pull off both roles.
Gweedo - 6/22/2009, 3:29 PM
CRAP NEWS! RIDDLER is a lame character!

BATS 3 will suck if they go with this!

If you want a character for DEPP watch NINTH GATE! He was born for the role of DR STRANGE! ; )

HOLLYWOOD Sheesh.

Teabag @ No it don't lol!

BAT-3 Villains =

Makes perfect sense with BATMAN on the run!!! ; )

Maybe can get the BLACK MASK in there?

Damn lmao! HOLLYWOOD is so predicable! : D

LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 3:32 PM
lmao, teabag that looks exactly like the damn Riddler, hahaha, oh you couldnt have picked a worse pic for a comparison.

The Riddler is the Joker with a green hat and a sudoku fetish. He sucks. But if Depp was playing him id at least be intrigued.
Rorschach01 - 6/22/2009, 3:48 PM
teabag--Um, that looks like the personification of some acid I took when I was 23.

But is that Depp? No way!
Betty - 6/22/2009, 3:50 PM
I'm sorry but I have to take a very stiff stand on this...

Since rumors of the Riddler have been going around, Johnny Depp has already had his name mentioned early on for the role by many people...after visioning the kind of Riddler he could do, I honestly believe that there is NOBODY else that can match it...

The Riddler part can ONLY be played by Depp...everyone knows how amazing of an actor he is...he could easily do for the Riddler what Heath Ledger did for the Joker
OptimusPrimeTime - 6/22/2009, 3:54 PM
Despite my disagreements with both LEEE777 and teabag regarding Routh, I think LEE777 is right on the money with Deathstroke or Deadshot. However, they're hired guns, who would play the client/financeer? In other words, the new puppet master???

Although I'd prefer Depp, do you people not think that there are absolutely no options of other actors out of the 6 1/2 billion people in the world to play certain roles???

No imagination.
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 3:54 PM
@vonstallin: co-sign again
HAQ - 6/22/2009, 4:07 PM
Phinehas @ Buddy! BLACK MASK maybe?
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 4:15 PM
Yeah, The Riddler sucks. Bring on Depp as The Joker or show us some new, never seen before on film villain(s).
HAQ - 6/22/2009, 4:20 PM
DEPP would make a better DR STRANGE!

You gotta watch the movie, an you'll think the same i promise you! ; )

Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

HAQ @ Bring DEPP in as the JOKER???? : /
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 4:21 PM
It certainly opens doors for Catwoman to come onto the scene, but he doesn't seem sophisticated enough to contract out to Deathstroke. Deathstroke probably wouldn't want to work for a "mere thug" like Black Mask.
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 4:21 PM
I think Depp would be an ideal Joker replacement!
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 4:22 PM
Leave the JOKER for say BATS 4 (maybe) keep it fresh!

It will tank if they put someone else as the JOKER straight away, doesn't matter whoever it is, it will tank the movie.
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 4:24 PM
Agreed! He's gonna spend sometime in Arkham for now.
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 4:27 PM
See the problem with the riddle is he for people who are comic book fans aka the real fans As much as I would love to see the Joker Nolan has rape him so much im scare he turn Joker into a bigger woman

They Could do the Riddler with the CLock King Two of batmans most underrated character
Supermike - 6/22/2009, 4:29 PM
@Phinehas: Yes, he would. VOTE Depp 4 Joker!!!!!
HAQ - 6/22/2009, 4:30 PM
im not a fan of Depp's but he would probably be a good Riddler.
joshw24 - 6/22/2009, 4:35 PM
OMG there's no hope for you ppl! ; D

HAQ @ do you know supermike??
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 4:39 PM
LEE: i think you mean Simplemike! Im trying to decide whether he says the things he does to piss everyone off or whether he is just an absolute retard. maybe a little of both...
joshw24 - 6/22/2009, 4:44 PM
The first lol, but he's not all there, that's for sure!!! Heh heh.

Makes me feel sane i tell ya lmao! ; D

JOSH @ ; )
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 4:47 PM
LEEE777, you are a genius. I'd LOVE to see Deathstroke or Deadshot.
DarkAvengers - 6/22/2009, 5:01 PM
i think he would just like to work with bale again.
grif - 6/22/2009, 5:04 PM
DarkAvengers @ Cheers man! ; )
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 5:06 PM
Optimus Prime for the Joker....

Photobucket

OptimusPrimeTime - 6/22/2009, 5:33 PM
Haha Leee it seems I have to disagree with you on everything (first watchmen, then Wolverine, now this), but you're still the man ;)

I love the idea of Depp playing Riddler, or Joker, or both ;) Thats the only way I can think of him toping Ledger. Not going to happen, but it would be an interesting show. Though I do like Instigators idea of Hugo Weaving for Riddler too (or Mr. Freeze). Imagine a Weaving/ Depp combo with Riddler and Joker. That would be a cool Batman movie. Throw in Catwoman to mix things up and we're golden. I know that seems like a lot of villians, but this way we already have Joker established, Catwoman can be the love interest (and an interesting one at that), while the movie focuses on the introduction of the Riddler. I think Nolan can pull it off.

Still, your Deadshot/ Deathstroke idea would be cool. Especially if they were hired by someone who doesnt like to get their hands dirty. Maybe a sophisticated crimelord that calls himself the Penguin...
Shadowelfz - 6/22/2009, 5:38 PM
Johnny Depp could play anything, most would agree the guy is great. I'd love to see him as the Riddler.
longbowhunter - 6/22/2009, 5:47 PM
I really rather see blackmask.. if you can't get joker, you could at least continue with the crimeboss thing and have him step up to fill the void joker left
spiderman1985 - 6/22/2009, 5:51 PM
Black Mask would be good. I still like LEEE's idea of Deadshot and/or Deathstroke.
longbowhunter - 6/22/2009, 6:04 PM
they should put harley quinn in it as a side villain trying to break out the joker threw out the movie, and at the end they can just show her blowing up the guards in arkham and walking towards the jokers cell and that could be the end of 3 bring back joker for 4.
jimthefan - 6/22/2009, 6:48 PM
I always thought Tom Petty would make a good Mad Hatter. That picture of Depp is just creepy looking.
Tobuttica - 6/22/2009, 6:49 PM
Shadowelfz @ lol, who for your penguin then? ; )

yeah BLACK MASK would be sweet, plus its a untouched character, just like DEATHSTROKE and DEADSHOT is! If this Franchise wants to carry on they gotta keep it fresh, can bring in all the others later on in more movies! Spidey/Longbow @ glad ya like the ideas! ; )

Jim @ thats a great idea!

Tobuttica @ lol!
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 6:49 PM
i would like to see them really do bane justice
jimthefan - 6/22/2009, 6:51 PM
harley can have bane break batmans back while harley breaks out the joker
jimthefan - 6/22/2009, 6:51 PM
Its too early for BANE.
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 6:52 PM
good way to keep the series fresh 2 have the trilogy end off with a bad note instead of the normal happy ending trilogy
jimthefan - 6/22/2009, 6:52 PM
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! :D

Gasp! Hold up....okay....No wait...okay.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! :D

Though I did wanna see a Crispin Glover RIDDLER, but Depp is cool. :)

SpiderMan209 - 6/22/2009, 6:54 PM
i like depp but riddler is played out
jimthefan - 6/22/2009, 6:58 PM
imagine wattching all 3 in a row then seein the riddler in the 3rd after watching the tdk bein like crap what are all his villians the same
jimthefan - 6/22/2009, 6:59 PM
@LEEE777---I do like the DEATHSTROKE and DEADSHOT hunting BATMAN idea too! That would be EPIC! :)
SpiderMan209 - 6/22/2009, 7:01 PM
riddler is played out from batman forever still
jimthefan - 6/22/2009, 7:01 PM
death stroke and deadshot arent well known enough to both be main villains
jimthefan - 6/22/2009, 7:02 PM
Damn,,, im getting a following lol! ; ) now if only you lot vote Jason Lewis lol! Heh heh,

But Seriously, it does make so much sense to have them characters in it, especially with The Bat on the run!

Jim @ So your saying only well known villains can be in BATMAN??? So how many ppl knew of the two in BATMAN BEGINS (Ral & Scare) save us comic book readers, not alot is the answer!
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 7:32 PM
I really hate commercials that are just as long as the video.
redrum010 - 6/22/2009, 7:39 PM
riddler is probably the route they are going to go. which is a relief, because a new movie will most likely give the character justice after being raped by batman forever. though depp seems great for the role, i find it hard to believe that they will end up casting the guy that everyone thinks they should do. they usually end up picking someone that you dont expect, like ledger with the joker. i was so taken aback by that at first, and it was great. so im just takin this in stride

and i think hush or black mask would be good to introduce to the mainstream through the next movie perhaps...
JeremyBentham - 6/22/2009, 7:39 PM
You see?!?! Someone other than Depp for Riddler that could pull it off! Crispin Glover! Thank you Spiderman209! That guy would do that role well, if it were to be.

@ LEEE777: I knew! I knew!
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 7:40 PM
Well I hope they approach him for the role.
Bandrews1 - 6/22/2009, 7:46 PM
Who? Glover, or Depp?
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 8:41 PM
My pick has always been Guy Pierce of Riddler...But WTF do I know...
TucsonRican - 6/22/2009, 9:01 PM
PHinehas & ISM209: "Crispin Glover! Thank you Spiderman209!" Im with you guys!... I definitely want Glover! I posted that on someones thread (I think Hawks) but they didnt agree. Depp is twisted enough, love him, but just a bit overexposed imho. I would be happy with either one but if I could choose.. it would be for Glover =)
KeepItReal - 6/22/2009, 9:06 PM
i agree with supermike lol j/K. who is this guy anyways? well i think the riddler is too alike the joker. but i'm ok with this as long as they bring in another villain, not joker! he had his moment, lets move on to another villain
droopy1317 - 6/22/2009, 9:09 PM
droopy1317: "who is this guy anyways?" Crispin Glover? he is from Charlies Angels (creepy thin man), Williard, Nurse Betty, Like Mike... =)
KeepItReal - 6/22/2009, 9:19 PM
I know that LEEE777 is for Black Mask and Hawk is clearly for Calendar Man, but I think a Penguin with Giamatti would really make for a good installment! He doesn't have to be grotesque in appearance as DeVito's portral had done. His hidden character can demonstrate it.
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 9:21 PM
Phinehas: "His hidden character can demonstrate it." I love how you write. I love the idea as Paul Giamatti as the penguin... he is a really good actor... so far all the roles he has had has been spot on imo...
KeepItReal - 6/22/2009, 9:29 PM
Exactly! Have you seen him in John Adams? OMG, flippin awesome!

Thanks for the compliment, btw.
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 9:36 PM
yes! he was fantastic.. He could go from one spectrum to another. Really, really good actor. Him and Ewan Mcgregor. Love them!

Man, I hope Christian Bale doesnt bale out on this movie 3 (lol). I hope he starts what he finishes. I hope Glover gets the part!
KeepItReal - 6/22/2009, 9:48 PM
Agreed, but I prefer that they let steep a good story so that it will do well. I don't want any rushed stories with huge plot holes. Another series of Schumacher Batman movies will be sorely recieved by this moviegoer. Nolan is a mere man. People seem to think only one person can do something when there are many others. I'd prefer Nolan, but another visionary director would be fine by me. Thoughts?
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 9:56 PM
Hmmm... thats a tough one, Leee. There are a lot of good choices. Paul Giamatti would be fantastic, as hes got the stature and hes a great actor who, with a little makeup, can definately pull off the Penguin. I also like Timothy Spall (Beadle from Sweeny Todd) for the same reason, though I think Spall would make a better Mad Hatter. Jason Alexanders looking for work, but... nah I cant see him pulling of Penguin too well.

Also I always thought Glover would have been a good Joker. Less manic and more creepy, though I can see him playing the Riddler too.
Shadowelfz - 6/22/2009, 10:03 PM
As long as the new director keeps in-line with Nolans vision, than it could happen. The problem with the previous instalment was that Burtons vision of Batman was drastically different from Shumacher, so they didnt feel like they were part of the same series, know what I mean? If a new directer keeps Batman realistic, keeps emphasising suspense and mystery as much as action, and makes sure the villians remeain dark versions of themselves that still nonetheless hold the essence of the characters, I can see getting a new director.

Unfortunately, a new director will probably want to put their own 'spin' on Batman, and thus change things. As such, I'm REALLY hoping Nolan comes back.
Shadowelfz - 6/22/2009, 10:06 PM
With that said, perhaps they should focus on making the Flash and WonderWoman! I've been reading The Flash: Rebirth. And it is pretty good. I hope they do one soon with Barry Allen.
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 10:12 PM
Joaquin Phoenix needs to play a villian in the same movie with Depp. Phoenix as the Penguin, Calender Man or Valentines Day Serial Killer. Or Maybe even the black Mask would be perfect. Let Phoenix hire deathstroke or Bane to try and Whack Batman, severely injuring Batman in the process, but also killing Bane or Deathstroke in the process possibly breaking batmans back. While batman is recovering Gotham is in the middle of a power strugle war between powerful mob families Black mask and the Penguin. Somehow throw in Robin or maybe Nightwing. or Throw in Catwoman to also play the valentines day killer who is killing mob bosses. 1st she kills the guy who helped create her, Maroni, while he's recovering in the hospital. Then she goes after Falcone who is being released from Arkham and then she goes after Black Mask. Then bring out Depp as the joker or riddler. Keep the plots twisted and there isn't 2 better twisted actors than Phoenix and Depp that can complement what Heath Ledger created. And if Phoenix is Black Mask then Paul Giamati is the Penguin.
GOTHAMknights2012 - 6/22/2009, 10:19 PM
Depp Is Riddler!
AssasinOfYouth22 - 6/22/2009, 10:24 PM
I know this will sound crazy, but I haven't heard anyone mention Bradd Pitt playing a villian role. Snatch, 12 Monkeys, Seven he can pull off a twisted sinister minded villian.
GOTHAMknights2012 - 6/22/2009, 10:32 PM
All good stuff guys!!!

I cant believe you lot brought up GLOVER though, i luv that guy! If you ever saw a movie called WILLARD, he's friggin' amazing in it, luv that movie! I dunno about the RIDDLER but he could pull off some BAT villain easy! I always wanted him to be JOKER too, when before TDK was made! He just said JOKER but i suppose he cant be that now!

HEALTH to me is the JOKER now! What lesser know villain could GLOVER play? An if they use CALENDAR MAN, like HAWK said use the guy from BEGINS!

Hopefully we'll get more news soon! ; )

MAYOR @ I suppose PITT could play a nice messed up Bat villian, he's got the acting chops for it! Nice call.
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 10:38 PM
yes, bradd pitt is fantastic in 12 Monkeys! He had me convinced there that he was really a lunatic! I loved it!! Snatch too! But he is kind of over exposed maybe.. Like depp.. Not they are not good actors cuz they are... but it would be nice to see someone fresh to the screen. imho... =)

Phinehas: "With that said, perhaps they should focus on making the Flash and WonderWoman!" Yeah baby! lol...

"All good stuff guys!!!" ***cough*** cough*** gg
KeepItReal - 6/22/2009, 10:38 PM
Cough : D
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 10:41 PM
ohhh... =(
KeepItReal - 6/22/2009, 10:45 PM
Depp is Riddler, but I have to agree with LEEE that he would make a perfect Dr. Strange! He looks and acts just like him
dbzfan - 6/22/2009, 10:51 PM
Depp is talented, and ANYTHING he does will be well recieved by the viewing public. I guarantee it! If he does some obscure villian like, I don't know, Calendar Man? They'll love him in that role! Meanwhile, Glover would do the Riddler!!! LOL
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 10:54 PM
Damn Leee I thought the same thing. Hell, back after Begins people began wondering who would play Joker, and the first person who came to mind was Glover. Then they announced Ledger and I was like "Huh?" ;)
Shadowelfz - 6/22/2009, 11:12 PM
who is cripin glover..sounds familiar? anywyays yes depp would make a great one.
hawkngo - 6/22/2009, 11:19 PM
Me too SHADOW @ Looks like we agree on something lol!

KeepItReal @ Whats up?? ... Oh soz,,, ; )

Hawkngo @ He was the villain in CHARLIES ANGELS and the star of a cool movie called WILLARD where he can control RATS lol!

Anyway if they hav'ta have the damn RIDDLER in it, i vote for SUPERMIKE! That guy messes even my head up lol! Heh.
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 11:19 PM
He was Marty McFly's dad in Back to the Future!!! LOL

Nobody mentions those credits for some strange reason.

"Hello!!! McFly! Hey look! Your shoes untied! (slap) Don't be so gullible McFly...."
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 11:27 PM
Oh an that lol!
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 11:27 PM
oh..i rember him..hes too old now
hawkngo - 6/22/2009, 11:29 PM
LEEE777: "Whats up?? ... Oh soz,,," J/K... :p... gg

Crispin Glover I think is the way to go... but like Phin says... Anything Depp does is good (except Willy Wonka! He creeped me out in that movie!) lol...
KeepItReal - 6/22/2009, 11:30 PM
Lol!

Oh an WILLY WONKA was crap lol, it wasn't even a good remake!
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 11:34 PM
But I think he was intended to be creepy! It was Tim Burton after all. I just don't think that movie is supposed to be creepy. No one told Burton that, it seems.

Why does Riddler have to fit a certain age group? He could be 50 or 25! It doesn't matter as long as he's menacing.
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 11:42 PM
Tim Burton is one creepy dude. He is scary... kinda like some of Stephen King novels... imagine what he dreams.... ***ewww****... I dont like much of his movies...

Yeah, Riddler just needs to be menacing... and genius...
KeepItReal - 6/22/2009, 11:50 PM
I think the only place i wanna see RIDDLER on the big screen again is a inmate in the GREEN ARROW movie SUPERMAX!!! ; )

Cant wait for dat film!
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 11:54 PM
Yes. KIR we agree too easily. LOL

Burton was good in the late eighties (Batman and Beetlejuice) and early nineties. Then, everyone started throwing money at him and he got to big. He's a dime-store filmaker. A novelty. Too big a budget will make his films look ridiculous, and they have!
Phinehas - 6/22/2009, 11:55 PM
Ive heard theres gonna be a EDWARD SCISSORHANDS 2 soon, with RUSSEL BRAND? Dunno if BURTONS involved though?
LEEE777 - 6/22/2009, 11:59 PM
Who's Russel Brand? I know Vincent Price isn't involved this time.
Phinehas - 6/23/2009, 12:01 AM
Arkham Asylum needs to be in BAtman 3 some how.
SHHH - 6/23/2009, 12:12 AM
Hugo Strange played by Vin Diesel....giggles
teabag - 6/23/2009, 12:47 AM
Depp looks like carrot top on crack in that pic! lol.
hawkngo - 6/23/2009, 1:43 AM
Depp looks like carrot top on crack in that pic! lol.
hawkngo - 6/23/2009, 1:44 AM
Depp looks like carrot top on crack in that pic! lol.
hawkngo - 6/23/2009, 1:44 AM
Bring back Keaton as Joker since they wear the same make up......

No Riddler.......

ANd here is your DS LEEEE ....i can see it....

teabag - 6/23/2009, 3:11 AM
I'd love Bane but who to play him, they can have Mr H. Dent comeback after all and they could introduce Hush. On the other hand Ra's Al Ghul released the joker in the first place and started the escalation so have him in the shadows somewhere.
breakUbatman - 6/23/2009, 4:43 AM
Don't waste a talent like Depp on a shitty ass character like The Riddler. Strange won't work in Nolan's universe, Depp certainly looks the part though.
HAQ - 6/23/2009, 5:42 AM
Here is your riddler The Riddler (played by David Tennant) Pictures, Images and Photos
Thorverine - 6/23/2009, 6:03 AM
MMMMM i see Doctor Who with a bowler hat......need more convincing
teabag - 6/23/2009, 6:17 AM
How 'bout this David Tennant as Riddler Pictures, Images and Photos
Thorverine - 6/23/2009, 6:26 AM
THATs better Thorverine but it's shouting out Joel Shumacher....i think your on to something but it needs a subtle tweek between pic 1 & 2
teabag - 6/23/2009, 6:37 AM
keepitreal, i meant supermike lol. but i didn't know who glover is, well now i do. he was the dad in back to the future wasn't he? well he would be a good riddler, and giamatti as penguin, they'd do some damage, as in would be evil
droopy1317 - 6/23/2009, 6:41 AM
I hate David Tenant, when he does that gurning face where his eyes pop out and his eyebrow arches to the point that its almost vertical on his rat like face, it makes me want to throw things at the tv..and sometimes i do!

Dont want Riddler, dont want Penguin, do want Catwoman, Deadshot or maybe Black Mask
Rorschach01 - 6/23/2009, 6:53 AM
@teabag lol yeah,Joel Shumacher
@ Rorschac01 disagree thourghly with you on the first part, but Black Mask would be cool. He comes in when Batman is on the run. The only things is that I can see them having him severly burned and do the two face thing to him.
Thorverine - 6/23/2009, 6:59 AM
Well i want Riddler. Not the panzy they've all given us in the past though. A serious mastermind played by serious actors such as Hugo Weaving or Depp. Enough with the Brooklyneske mob movie, bring in the battle of the witts. Lady Shiva would be a good side villain for some action and maybe introduce Catwoman. But villains for hire or Metahumans would suck.
Shaman - 6/23/2009, 7:18 AM
NO NO NO NO FIDDLER....................im jumping up and down here!!!!!!!
teabag - 6/23/2009, 7:26 AM
The problem with Deadshot or Black Mask is not enough people know who those characters are. Yes done right maybe they could pull off a movie of such caliber. I would go see it and enjoy it fully but I think more people would connect with characters they already know or have a knowledge of such as the Riddler. Still great ideas though.
Kratos6 - 6/23/2009, 7:30 AM
yeah deadshot is minor, i mean he was cool an well portrayed in Gotham Knight, but even there he looked minor.
SirJediFrank - 6/23/2009, 8:20 AM
You have to think of the Riddler in the way that CHRIS NOLAN sees him and will portray him. He will update and fit the character to the world he has already created in the first two movies. In other words, no goofy costume. The costume doesn't make the character anymore than if the Joker has scars or not (did).

I have an immense amount of faith in Nolan, and I think Bale will come around when he realizes how stupid it would be for his career and check book to turn it down.

Johnny Depp would make a great riddler in Nolan's universe, but he is the OBVIOUS choice. Maybe the "Riddlers" gimmick will be to set up minor characters like Deadshot to attack Bats while he pursues his big heist?

HAQ:
Great minds think alike, lol

Tea Bag: (i keep thinking of bagwell from prison break)... That picture is funny as hell...and it also makes me realise that Heath hit that role on the head and Im not sure if i want to see someone else play it now.

At this point, I just want Nolan to keep the vilians psychotics. I like his take on Scarecrow, Ras Al Goul (sp) Two Face, and the Joker. He hit everyone of these character right. (alot of characters for 2 movies)..

I guess after Jim Carry's Joker I lost my taste...

Nolan will Deliver. As much as the movie companies are money hungry pricks I think that they see that no matter how much you sink into a movie (Terminator:Salvation) you have to have the right team and they had it for two movies and made a shit load. wait it out... and the goose will lay the golden egg for a third time.
vonstallin - 6/23/2009, 8:49 AM
Yeah the Riddler we're used to seeing is pretty lame, really, but Nolans vision would make him a lot cooler. Less of a spastic-manboy in a green leotard, and more of a smug yet compulsive mastermind who acts confident yet feels the need to show everyone how much more intelligent he is than everyone else. Have him wear darker, mutted colors, and maybe keep a question mark on his tie and maybe a mask. The mask would be less about covering his identity, and more a piece of his alter-ego. I dont know, the way I'm envisioning it I thihk the Riddler would be cool.

Lmfao TEABAG @ An cheers for the STRANGE pic mate!!!

Damn, me an ROR agree on this lol! ; ) We're right though, an why is DEADSHOT etc second rate??? They fit in the story perfect!

Anyway i think if you keep using the same Bat Villains all the time the main public are gonna get bored with it!

I think the RIDDLERS overated and an its a bad move putting him in the third BAT movie, theres plenty of time an movies if this franchise takes it slow! Look what happened to the last franchise, an you gotta remember this is the dreaded number 3 movie! Though i think that's all Bull, they can make an excellent third movie myself. An i also think NOLAN is a lil scared an wants to finish on top lol!
LEEE777 - 6/23/2009, 9:59 AM
Vonst, you meant Jim Carrey´s RIDDLER.

but let´s have faith.

My package jiggles thinking of King TUTT as the villain
teabag - 6/23/2009, 10:06 AM
Nope I still say Hugo Weaving as Riddler. In V For Vendetta I thought he could totally pull it off.

Photobucket
InstigatorGIRL - 6/23/2009, 10:11 AM
Shave that weaving head and you have Hugo Strange....hell he even has the first name right
teabag - 6/23/2009, 10:14 AM
LEEE- What happened to the last franchise was SCHUMAKER and CARREY!!! Riddler's character isn't to be blamed for it. Next to Joker, Riddler has been and forever will be Batman's best villain cause he brings out the detective in him which is quite frankly Batman's most interesting and defining feature (which we haven't seen yet in Nolan's franchise). It is desperately needed cause aside from the short ending bit, Batman got [frick] all in character development in TDK. Nolan's third film WILL FAIL if they put Batman on the side lines again in the next one. He needs to be up front n' centre and to show off prowess and development or else we won't connect with him. A simple mob film with hired guns won't do for Nolan's final act!
Shaman - 6/23/2009, 10:36 AM
Man i think im crawling up shamans ass again cus i agree with what he said.....i want a BATMAN MOVIE.....not the guy who is trying to catch THE JOKER MOVIE
teabag - 6/23/2009, 11:12 AM
teabag- Well i do enjoy it when as many people as possible agree with me at the same time LOL :P

And yes, there's more to Batman then just a charmless rich twat in a bat suit, livin' the life a day at a time.
Shaman - 6/23/2009, 11:28 AM
teabag

If The Riddler can pull off the Goosing in your avatar, how can you argue against him?!

I'm with Shaman here, the Riddler has awesome potential as a villian who can force Batman to be the detective we all want to see. He's also smart enough to pin a bunch of shit on Bats that will keep Gotham's finest hunting him down. Giving ole batsy time to develope an underworld relationship with one Selina Kyle (hopefully played by Carla Gugino, props to Ror01) To make a long story short (too late) there's plenty of meat on that bone boys and girls.
BillyBlack - 6/23/2009, 11:51 AM
I agree with ya, Shaman. Riddler has great potential, but Shumacher screwed him up big time. The next film can redeem the character, especially with Nolan on board and someone like Depp playing him. TDK was my favorite comic book movie, but I really hated how they spent so much time developing Two-Face, only to kill him off before he was able to do anything major. I understand the need to develop Joker, but taking time away from Batman to build upon a villian that that dies less than twenty minutes after becoming the badguy was pretty lame.

On a similar note, I do think they can bring Two-Face back. It would be a stretch, but they can do it. If they can do it to Michael Myers eight times in a row, they can do it to Two-Face. One idea is to have Two-Face wake up in the morgue, kill his way out, then hide in the sewers like he did in The Long Halloween, waiting for the right moment to return. Meanwhile, since telling the public that Harvey Dent is alive and running around murdering people would completely undermine the whole theme of the movie and, essentially, let Joker win, they hold a public funeral for Dent (closed casket since hes burned of course) and hope he doesnt come back. Yeah, I know he's dead, I'm just saying its a movie so anything can happen.
Shadowelfz - 6/23/2009, 12:04 PM
Oh yeah! Three at the same time feels damn good right now LOL :P

Oh and Billy, i'll have to take that credit there for Carla LOL But it's all good baby :P

Shadowelfz- true, very true. You got firm points there. And i do believe that Nolan, Eckhart and Depp (or Weaving) would be incapable of such a sacrilege as Schumaker, Carrey and Jones perpetrated.
Shaman - 6/23/2009, 12:21 PM
Humble apologies wise Shaman

I still think Ryan Gosling could do something spicy with the Riddler role, if given the chance. I like the idea of Hugo Weaving as well, I just think Depp would be too dominating and once again Batman would be a secondary character. Not what I want in the final (I'm guessing) installment of this series.
BillyBlack - 6/23/2009, 12:55 PM
Post #42 seems to contain contrary evidence:

IronTotem - 6/23/2009, 1:18 PM
Billy- True, which is why i'd like them to go with Weaving in that case. I'd never root for a young mastermind. I just don't like that idea. It feels the same as a cheap thong that fits crooked, know wad i mean?

IronTotem- Well that was a complete waste of time. Someone's assumptions is hardly evidence. They say it comes from a reliable source but even the source isn't sure of a damn thing.
Shaman - 6/23/2009, 1:38 PM
i wondered why im sitting funny
teabag - 6/23/2009, 1:51 PM
I hear ya Sham

Although the young Red Skull antagonist in the Earth X book was an exception to the rule. I think Gosling has what it takes to pull something great and unexpected out of the character a la Heath Ledger. At the same time, I'm totally cool with Hugo as the Riddler. He has the voice, kooky look, and overall chops to nail it to the wall. Here's to hoping it happens.

As far as the cheap thong comment goes, I'm afraid I'm not the one to ask. In a costume such as mine, underwear of any kind fits crooked. Free-balling is the only way to travel my friend. ;)
BillyBlack - 6/23/2009, 2:32 PM
I hear ya comando and yes Gosling is meant for great things! Hopefully he'll get the superhero role of his lifetime sooner than later!!!
Shaman - 6/23/2009, 2:39 PM
Riddler has been done and Jim Carry made me never want to see the character on film again, make Depp the Joker and then I'll be sold on him being in Bats 3
Osiris - 6/24/2009, 7:22 AM
Yes well Kilmer and Clooney practically shat out turds dressed up in bat suits and called them "performances"... doesn't seem to bother you to watch Batman Begins, TDK and being "sold" for a Bats3.
Shaman - 6/24/2009, 7:59 AM
i suppose that is true Shaman.... but I would still rather see him play Joker to continue the story from where they left of and go with Nolan's original plan.

and if they don't go the route of continuing from the last movie then I want to see someone new to the live action movie's
Osiris - 6/24/2009, 9:36 AM
Well i do like Depp and i think he could pull off Joker but i'd really want to see Riddler. I don't know if Hugo Weaving as Riddler with Depp as Joker would be too much...
Shaman - 6/24/2009, 11:10 AM
EAT THAT DEPP HATERS!!!!!
TheSoulEater - 6/24/2009, 4:22 PM
Riddler is the worst of Batman's main set of villains. They need to start looking at other major villains that haven't been used before. Like Killer Croc. That would be awesome.
BlackAdamLantern - 6/25/2009, 11:33 AM
Killer croc, yes an oversized texan with a skin disease... that would fit right in with Nolan's reality oriented universe. Not to mention the amount of depth and character development he would generate... *yawn*
Shaman - 6/25/2009, 1:50 PM
i dont want to see the original riddler from comics and other movies, but DARKER.

1- have edward nigma be investigating joker

2- have riddler be a rat for the mob, and have him like the zodiac killer

depp could pull this role off so well

now the joker should be extremely sychotic at arkham. have nicholson come back and do it.

now as for the mob... bring black mask into the picture, and to have him be protrayed by roy liotta.

this shall be the final batman movie in nolan's franchise.
kyle dalton - 6/28/2009, 12:05 PM
im with keaton as joker, and depp all the way as riddler, but if not depp ........ doctor who should do it, or even the guy who plays ben from lost. [ wich by the way is the best show on earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
legder20 - 6/30/2009, 8:21 AM
O.K. After wasting about 45 minutes of my life over the dribble posted on this thread, I have concluded that most of you have no idea what you are talking about. Holy smokes batman, we have some dimwits out there.
Here's my two cents for what's its worth (starting from beginning and skipping over a lot of 'shtuff'):

LEEE777 - I agree the Depp can and would probably play a good Dr. Strange. And he would do a good job as the Riddler as well. It's too bad Nolan is not filming his film in the Amalgam Universe, you could have half your wish come true. And as for Daedshot/Deathstroke, they're as entertaining of character as Bulleye's ever was; another gimp/gimmick in a suit. "I never miss"...
If done right, Black Mask can be done right, and would be current with what's going on in the Batman universe right now.
Phinehas - I would like to see Catwoman come on screen, but she would have to be more than a woman in leather, Not that there a problem with that, but her character has developed a lot over the years.

Supermike - You are a troll

jimthefan/Phinehas/KeepItReal - I agree, the Riddler in the previous movie (which will never belong to my collection) was horrible. So did DC comics, and they have revamped his character twice recently; both versions ideal for the big screen. The Private Eye, or even better, the Riddler that emerged from "Riddle me That", Legends of the Dark Knight #185-189, 2005. The break down as I would see, with the actors mentioned, would be as follows:
Depp - Private Eye Riddler
Mcgregor - Pretty boy Riddler with a mean streak, read "Riddle me That"
Giamatti - As The Penguin, I have to admit, I did not put the two together, but I can see. He would portray the Penguin with more class than DeVito did. although I have to admit, I like Devito as the Penguin.

Teabag - Adding that Beetlejuice/Joker pick to my collection.

Shadowelfz - Who said anything about Two-Face being dead. If I recall correctly, no one in the movie ever said that Harvey Dent was dead, in fact, the one scene that leads you to believe that he might have died was missing one very important clue, no black strips over the badges. Now, after doing some homework on this subject, I have come to the conclusion that Harvey Dent the District Attorney is dead, but the Two-Face is tucked away somewhere, like, oh I don't know, Arkham Asylum. And with Health Ledger unable to make the third film, they might want to hold onto that Two-Face Crime boss Card. If any of you actually read the comics, you are fully aware that just because the airplane blew up 30,000 feet in the air, in the middle of the ocean, with a Cat 5 hurricane raising hell, does not mean the villain/hero died.

And once all the fuss and commotion settles down, here's come in Shaman with some wise words.

Shaman - Agree, they need to focus more on the detective park and less on the kicking butt aspect.

This can easily be accomplished using the existing characters and introducing one or two more into the mix. You don't want too many, or you will get another fan film flop. Ra's al Ghul is still out there, and he does have a beautiful daughter running around. She can introduce herself to Bruce Wayne, work her way into his heart, only to find out this Devil does where Prada.
The Penguin could be a background character, building up his empire, buying his way into the inner circles of Gotham's elite, and worming his way through its underbelly. I would leave out Catwoman until a the forth movie. Can't have two beautiful women chancing after the Bats, although I can see a (pg-13) story line forming in my head; I'll leave that for another thread.
Riddler, depending which approach taken, should be one of the main characters. He can easily confuse the already cross wired Two-Face to do his grunt work, or could be hired by the Penguin to rid himself of the ever intrusive Batman. Either approach, the story should focus on Batman having to use his intellect to get himself out of cross-hairs of the GCPD, and have a villain story or two to make the 'kids' happy. Now, here's a HUGE stretch, why not introduce another superhero. One that could exist in the Nolan reality, one that could potentially spin off into its own movie. Kinda like what Marvel is currently perfecting. He introduce a little surreal with Sup's doing a fly by, I don't care, but DC should break out of this One superhero Universe movie, and branch out a bit. I read Green Lantern got picked up, heck, I sure Ryan Reynolds would not mind making a guest appearance as Hal Jordan in the next movie.

But heck, what do I know?

unholi - 7/19/2009, 2:34 PM
Agreed on one thing: anyone could play a better Riddler than the one from Schumacher's piece of shit. I can't blame Carrey because Schumacher set the tone for that film and he also made the mistake of casting a comedian for the role. The Riddler, in my oppinion, should be a calm, collective character; Carrey's Riddler was basically Joker in green tights (which were terrible). As for Depp, I've alawys thought that he should be cast in a Comic Books film. And, yes, the Riddler had crossed my mind as his role before. One thing is for sure, though, the Riddler can't hold the story of the next film by himself. I disagree with Penquin being in the next film. Nolan has done a good job of introducing Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow to the big screen, so I think it would be best to use a villain that we haven't seen yet. Deadshot and Deathstroke wouldn't be the best because the majority of the non-fan public won't recognize these characters. As for other suggestions, I'm speachless. Catwoman should be in this next one. I think Kate Beckinsdale could play a good Catwoman, no? She'd bring back the original black-haired Selina Kyle and she'd bring something to the plate besides good looks (the Underworld movies were pretty sweet).
AxlKomix - 7/22/2009, 9:53 PM
there are alot of great actors that could probably bring the riddler back to life and depp is one of them...but i think i have someone who would be a better fit...john malkovich....this guy is intense...just a thought, what do yall think?
crackgem - 7/22/2009, 11:42 PM
John Malkovich would make better for a replacement Joker, if the makeup team could pull it off.
Suggestions for Riddler's Co-Star:
Black Mask (This one's for you, LEEE777)
The Ventriloquist (minor villain)
Killer Moth (minor villain)
The Terrible Trio (minor)
Lady Shiva
Hugo Strange
AxlKomix - 7/23/2009, 7:18 AM
I can't believe all the people claiming that the Riddler sucks... and who do they suggest as an alternative?...
Oh, some brainless twat with big guns who just shoots a couple people and then movies on.

What exactly are you trying to create? The 30 second Batman movie?
Deadshot and Deathblow are by far much worse villains to use in ANY movie, unless you are trying for ridiculous bit parts. Even their names suck, they are like random Mary Sue made up garbage fanfic names. They're whole existence boils down to "I'm gonna shoot person A" and so they either shoot person A or Batman beats them up and that's the end of the movie. That's not a movie, that's a damn comic strip at best!

The Riddler is one of the best villains you have in Batman and always has been. He's nothing like the Joker except waaaay back in the day when ALL Batman villains were basically carbon copies. There was no more difference between Penguin, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, etc. and the Joker back then either.

If you can accept a Joker who isn't shooting gumballs at Gotham police, driving around in an ice cream truck, shooting guns that make little flags that say "Bang!" on them and generally being a clown, then there is no reason to hold Riddler to his most basic and kid-friendly form.

While the Joker is just a clown that commits random violence to try to prove that the world is screwed up, Riddler has motivations, plans and brilliant intellect. Riddler is the master of plans within plans within plans. He is a plotter whose ultimate goal is to solve every mystery and pull others along for the ride.
With Batman being hunted by the Gotham PD, you cannot have a better antagonist than the guy who has both the means and methods to unmask Batman. It makes fr a much better, much more interesting story than "hey, look! Random masked guy is shooting everyone in sight! Go stop him, The Batman! Show him that your bat-terang and bat-mobile and bat-computer and bat-shark-repellent is better than guns!"

Now, I could see another villain being involved to be used by the Riddler to be pitted against Batman in a game that the Riddler would intend to see both defeated and him walk away with the spoils of victory. And that villain could be anyone from Black Mask to Penguin to Catwoman. But the main point is that Riddler, no matter how you play him, as long as you keep him in the more serious, modern tone makes for a brilliant foil to a reasonably mortal and flawed Batman.
Hobgoblyn - 7/26/2009, 5:27 PM
even if nolan sticks with the reality aproach there are better villians and actors. does any one know the creeper. that yellow skinned green haired mink wearin daredevil who becomes a good guy after his run in with the bat. batman was created during the 1930's and today closely resembles back then. we should not be tied down to villians 10 yearolds know, but look into ourselves. am i the only one who sees how close to the heart the dark knight movie came.
i would like to see a college course about such events in our lives.
