The Gotham Observer Viral Marketing Offers Cryptic Clues For THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The newspaper certainly appears to hint at Catwoman and the horoscope seems to be catered to a number of key players in the TDKR universe. Plus,Commissioner Gordon speaks about Harvey Dent.

CBMer WesleyGibson previously posted a snippet of the latest TDKR viral marketing effort but the entire promotion has now been released in full on the Mountain Dew viral site.

You can read The Harvey Dent Act by clicking HERE and also view a new mysterious viral promotion directing readers to Rykin Data Corporation. It looks like the events of The Dark Knight will reverberate throughout TDKR as the demise of Harvey Dent aka Two-Face looks to be central to the plot. Also, can anyone guess who those horoscopes are for, I have a few but not all of them figured out.

I haven't gone to a midnight movie since The Hangover came out, but it's happening for this one. I never knew I had an inner nerd until Nolan started making these Batman movies.
Greengo - 6/22/2012, 7:32 AM
I thought the Joker was a Pisces.
KalEl26 - 6/22/2012, 7:49 AM
Since the movie takes place 8 years after in TDK, I wonder if we'll see technological advancements. It'd be cool if people in the movie were driving somewhat futuristic cars. It would also show Nolan attention to detail.
bestintheworld - 6/22/2012, 7:53 AM

He does have an EMP gun in the movie, that's pretty advanced. Wouldn't mind having one for my boss' laptop right about now....
WorldsGreatestdetective - 6/22/2012, 7:55 AM
Batman is Pisces, and Catwoman is Gemini with Bane as Aries. Sounds about right

What a cool and creative way to promote a movie! All the horoscopes seem pretty obvious except the some one from your past one, although that's probably a Ras reference
bestintheworld - 6/22/2012, 8:55 AM

So Superman decided to start wearing his underwear underneath his clothes? Smart play.

i'm guessing ras or scarecrow is the someone from the past? or maybe they'll shock everyone and do the joker cameo that was rumored long ago. doubt it but it would be amazing to see

Gotham has always felt like a real city in the comics, it's like it's own character, and through this viral marketing their doing a great job of making this Gotham seem like a city that actually exists somewhere instead of just being sets on a back lot. The attention to detail is fantastic.

This takes place 8 years after Batman Begins. The Dark Knight was technically in the same first year, so 8 years later actually brings the story up to date since Batman Begins came out nearly 8 years ago! That's kinda cool.
jmunny - 6/22/2012, 10:54 AM
I thought they already debunked the R = Robin in the movie rumor; all the signs were fan made and some fan brought in that Robin R one to help his buddies spells Rogues and get a little easter egg in all by his lonesome.
jmunny - 6/22/2012, 10:55 AM
I'm hoping Talia is a Virgo and Ras is her surprise visitor.
AnAvenger - 6/22/2012, 11:04 AM

That is pretty cool stuff. The Nolan movies have always been good at the viral marketing stuff.

Seems like Bruce/Batman may have private access to that new library wing. Could be cool....

@ hope420 - That's not completely true: It says under the picture of Dent, that it's taken in 2008 (and it's clear that it's supposed to be from around the same time as TDK takes place. So if TDKR takes place 8 years after that, then we're looking at 2016. It could just be a fcuk up by some dude who made this fake paper, I guess, 'cause you're right about the fact, that BB and TDK takes place within a pretty short period of time, which means then, that BB takes place in 2007/08 ...hmm
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 6/23/2012, 11:30 AM
@hassager good call didn't notice the date on the paper. So what year did BB and TDK take place exactly? I thought if BB came out in 05 then this was a genius idea to have TDKR take place 8 years later so it kinda goes with real time. Oh well it was a cool hypothesis hahaha.:)
educaz - 6/24/2012, 2:56 AM
@ hope420 Yeah, I like that idea better too :) Let's just pretend we never saw the text under this picture, then :D
