Before And After: Bane's Voice In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Before And After: Bane's Voice In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Remember when Christopher Nolan said that he wouldn't be re-dubbing the character's dialogue after complaints that it was indecipherable? Yeah, he totally did. Have a listen to the audio from the IMAX prologue compared and contrasted with that of the theatrical cut..

He can be a funny one that Christopher Nolan. When quite a few fans complained that some of Bane's dialogue was hard to make out in the IMAX prologue of The Dark Knight Rises which screened in front of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, the director insisted no changes would be made. Well, as anyone who caught both the original prologue and then the one from the finished film can attest to, there were definitely alterations -- in fact, all but one of the villain's lines were re-dubbed. Have a listen..

Either way, Bane is hot.
Ashes2Phoenix - 7/28/2012, 8:03 AM
I personally preferred the original version. Sounded way more intimidating.
NerdyGeek - 7/28/2012, 8:04 AM
Bane sounded hilarious in the prologue!

"Of courshhh!"
JDUKE25 - 7/28/2012, 8:04 AM
Liked the first version better.
MrRogers - 7/28/2012, 8:05 AM
I liked the original voice more also
Boyle360 - 7/28/2012, 8:06 AM
I prefer the old voice, but it was a little too difficult to understand. The new one will do! :D
MarkV - 7/28/2012, 8:06 AM
I knew it! First voice was way better. Cry baby fan boys made him change it.
dahamma - 7/28/2012, 8:08 AM
I knew it!!!! as soon as he spoke i knew it was different!!
ThatOneDude - 7/28/2012, 8:08 AM

I liked the Theatrical Cut dub. While not as menacing, it was a lot more exciting and easier to understand.
NerdyGeek - 7/28/2012, 8:12 AM
What a lovely lovely voice...
heisei24 - 7/28/2012, 8:12 AM
sorry but the theaterical version totally sucks
shiverman20 - 7/28/2012, 8:12 AM
much prefer his new voice, the way he says OF COURSE is one of my favourites moments in the movie!
DarkGrifter - 7/28/2012, 8:12 AM
I see I am only one of few people who actually prefers the final voice :O
The original just sounds too artificial and somewhat robotic but the final version has more emotion and you can tell what words he wants to emphasise, which makes the Bane sound way more menacing.
dahamma - 7/28/2012, 8:12 AM
I like the redubb, although the old one did sound menacing, I couldn't understand it at all.

Actually Bane was my FAVORITE...FAVORITE part of this movie. Although at first i thought i wouldn't liek him.

JUST as I was at the point of saying oh man this guy is great! NOLAN had to make him into a henchmen/bodygaurd/PAWN to talia!!

Ruined it for me, it took away from how BOSS Bane was from the get go. Then he freaking cried people....he cried..why Nolan why lol
Tainted87 - 7/28/2012, 8:13 AM

It was a bit distracting. I actually laughed out loud the first time I heard it because (as I told my sister) he sounds like a drunk Sean Connery.

I didn't mind the original, but I guess they had to clear it up a bit. I LOVED his voice though, so strange and just..creepy at times. When he's talking to Bruce in the prison and he says.."Yes..but not of your body (pause) of your soul" favorite Bane moment. What Hardy does with his eyes there is class.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 7/28/2012, 8:14 AM
Comparing dodgy bootleg recordings from cheap camera-mics placed in different positions in different cinemas is hardly scientific or capable of proving anything other than how the two events were recorded differently. The variety of aural acoustic discrepancies are enormous.
NerdyGeek - 7/28/2012, 8:16 AM
RorMachine: Yeah, only his prologue voice was silly. I was fine with everything else.
MrReese - 7/28/2012, 8:16 AM
yea if stupid ppl wouldn't have complained we would have gotten the 1st voice.Which was better IMO.The movie 1 sounded tweaked 2 a higher pitch.I also noticed how when Bane says (in the prologue): "We have 2 find out what he told u bout us" in the movie they cut out the "bout us" part which I think should have stayed.Either way

Bane = Villain Of The [frick]ing Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s hands the [frick] down!! XD
CBMJamie - 7/28/2012, 8:17 AM
The Prologue version, although slightly less clear, is definitely more evil and intimidating.

The Final Film version seems like it was re-dubbed not only to make it clearer and to rid the film of criticism, but also to make Bane sound more intelligent.

It is clear the majority of lines have not only been greatly edited, but have been replaced with completely new/different recordings.

They needed to find a middle ground between the clarity of the final film's version and the menacing nature of the original prologue's.
DarkGrifter - 7/28/2012, 8:17 AM
Ahh yes, the aural acoustic discrepancies...I see, I see.

jessepostal - 7/28/2012, 8:18 AM
I liked the dialogue during there first fight especially the league of shadows parts, his voice acting in that scene is fantastic
R888 - 7/28/2012, 8:22 AM
I like the voice
R888 - 7/28/2012, 8:24 AM
I like batman voice I think he was saying to bane "where's the trigger" another funy part when he said "we got to get it over the bridge" after attaching the cable to the bomb.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 7/28/2012, 8:25 AM
DarkGrifter: "Ahh yes, the aural acoustic discrepancies...I see, I see."

I like how you've no argument but feel a snarky remark qualifies as a retort.

It's true, the empty can does indeed rattle the most.
DavidGray - 7/28/2012, 8:26 AM
You're all kidding, right? Went the prologue came out all the fanboys were raging because they couldn't understand a single word Bane said. Now the fixed it and everyone's like "Nah, the old voice was coller"

@BizzarroNumber1: My point exactly so many plot gaps, and the story developed like it was rushed or alot of the movie was cut out.It such a boring movie to me everything but the last 5 minutes.Plus the miraculous come back from a broken back...wth. And how could Bruce Wayne of all people stay out of crime fighting for 8 years considering he is such an obsessive person i can't imagine Bruce getting out of shape like that!
BatOnTheBrain - 7/28/2012, 8:33 AM
Banes voice was cool
webheaded - 7/28/2012, 8:34 AM
I love Bane's voice. So menacing. Nolan seems to be dangerously adjusting our characters, but in the end, his vision just ends up being so good that we forgive him!
DarkGrifter - 7/28/2012, 8:34 AM
Haha, you really thought I was being snarky?!
Jesus man, at no point did I imply I was disagreeing with you, in fact I agree with you. I'm baffled as to why you would think this. At most I was making fun at my lack of knowledge of what you were talking about, maybe you should have taken that as a compliment as opposed to thinking people who don't directly agree with you are being negative about your comment.

Maybe hardy has only seen highlander and thought that's how you do a Spanish / south American accent ?
Marqy - 7/28/2012, 8:43 AM
@Bizzaro I know right ? But no, Im not kidding
from Batman wiki:
