Christopher Nolan On Bringing Bruce Wayne's Story To An End In TDKR

Christopher Nolan On Bringing Bruce Wayne's Story To An End In TDKR

The director speaks about wrapping up his Batman trilogy, making it very clear that this will be The Caped Crusader's final flight. He also reveals that the "great ending" has been planned for a while..

Will Batman die at the end of The Dark Knight Rises? That's the question on everybody's mind when it comes to the final installment in Christopher Nolan's trilogy. It might seem silly to even suggest such a thing, especially considering the fact that though this may be Nolan's last Bat-flick, Warner Bros. will will most definitely not be done with the character. But this is Nolan we are talking about, and if this movie is to be the finale of his bleak vision of The Dark Knight, many feel that he will give us a bittersweet ending - perhaps involving Joseph Gordon Levitt's mysterious John Blake and a "passing of the torch"? Anyway, it's all just speculation at this point, and one thing is for sure, we won't get a thing from Nolan. However, while speaking to Total Film Magazine the director does make it clear that TDKR will be the end of Bruce Wayne's story at least, and reveals that whatever they are planning for the character has been on the cards for years..

"Our telling of the Batman legend has always been centered on Bruce Wayne's story. We somewhat left the audience hanging at the end of the last film in terms of Bruce's story and we want to bring it full circle and have a complete tale. We've a great ending we've been wanting to tell for some years now. We're just thrilled to have been able to bring our story around to its conclusion."

For much more on The Dark Knight Rises be sure to pic up the new issue of Total Film Magazine, out now.

This movie will be the worst Batman movie ever. This guy is only worryed about the photography, the angles, the psicological issues but not in giving us an exciting movie of one of the most wonderfull superhero of all. This movie will be art, Avengers is an exciting, thrilling and full of action superhero movie. A Catwoman who`s not sexy, a Bane that is shorter tham Bruce Wayne...but what freaks me out is when he talks about an END OF A LEGEND...[frick] you Nolan.
Comix - 5/12/2012, 5:18 AM
I seriously hope MoS does good, I think supes kinda lost his popularity. I think they put the movie on hold so that they could get an animated series to make him relevant again...well, thatd be the smart thing to do.
RorMachine - 5/12/2012, 5:19 AM
"This movie will be art" said like that's a bad thing. Seriously, go watch Transformers.
GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 5:24 AM
Good damn Nolan is [frick]ing beautiful in that scarf. :D
GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 5:36 AM
@goomba lmao. :)
thalidomide - 5/12/2012, 6:02 AM
Oh shit is he going to die?
theomegasanction - 5/12/2012, 6:11 AM
liked the previous two movies and expect to like this one as well. I do not need to see all CBMs match the source material exactly as long as it is done well and this franchise has done that so far. Sure there are always things I would change like Hathaway for Catwoman because she looks supermodel fragile and not athletic ass kicker, same problem I had with Jessica Alba for Sue Storm; super model yes, woman of science no. But like I said Nolan is 2 for 2 in my book and expect good stuff. Also I like CBM that are for adults, there is plenty of stuff for kids.
FANBOY2012 - 5/12/2012, 6:20 AM
This movies is gonna make avengers look like justin bieber in front of slash...
GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 6:25 AM
This movie is going to make Avengers look like Zeppelin in front of Johnny Cash. A little more accurate.

Not saying Johnny cash is bad btw.
aztony1975 - 5/12/2012, 6:25 AM
Bruce will stage his death, so he can be Batman 100% of the time. Leaving Fox in charge.
thalidomide - 5/12/2012, 6:28 AM
More accurate? LMAO!!!!!
GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 6:30 AM
@thalidomide Lol. What was so hilarious about that?
Kalel219 - 5/12/2012, 6:30 AM
Omg @thewonderer

I LOVE the nolan batman films, but you are so far up the guy's arse, NO ONE should take anything you say seriously.

"The awkward moment when you realize Nolan's batman films are MORE accurate than any of the marvel films"

SERIOUSLY!?!? You truly believe this?....Dear lord
GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 6:32 AM
@thalidomide Allow me to clarify. Zeps style is jamming the [frick] out in your face, and Cash is more poetic and dramatic.
kemuael - 5/12/2012, 6:35 AM
Dont worry theirs always the reboot in 2 years....ah yes another Batman movie.....

dc will always be a FAILURE!!!
ZigZagStuffa - 5/12/2012, 6:36 AM
Can't believe some of you guys are hating on TDKR without any real information at all... NOLAN the cast and it's crew have been tight lipped the whole time and trailers really haven't told us much at all. I can't wait till the movie comes out and you [frick]ers change your minds quicker than you jizz.
Supes17 - 5/12/2012, 6:37 AM
OMG enough of this rivalry bullshit! The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises are players of the same team, CBM's!

My God, you guys are worse than my sister with the team Jacob Team Edward nonsense.

The 2 movies aren't even alike! And why are you guys so afraid and dreading that The Avengers is possibly better than 2008's Dark Knight?

Isn't THAT the whole point? For CBM's to get BETTER each year?
Stop bitching about movies you haven't seen yet.

Love ya guys:P
Ha1frican - 5/12/2012, 6:37 AM
@OubleD you overestimate many parents today. You know how many little kids I know that have seen both Batman Begins or TDK or both? People will go see it regardless of what age they are.
thalidomide - 5/12/2012, 6:39 AM

The hell is your problem? Did I attack you personally? Did I say something that offended you? Loosen up it's just a movie you [frick]ing retard!
StrangerX - 5/12/2012, 6:41 AM
I like that fact this movie will be a work of art.
JRM1995 - 5/12/2012, 6:42 AM
Marvel has done nothing but saturate the industry with DRIVEL. They finally got it right with their latest films. Avengers was great, but the only reason it's done well is because they put all those characters together, peel back the onion, and you get nothing but a weak story wrapped up with good character moments.

DC/WB started this in 1978, in 1989, and blew it up again in 2008. I remember everybody saying Iron Man was going to own TDK, look how that turned out, LOL.

Nolan is going to push the envelope again July 20th, raising the bar once again.
GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 6:43 AM
@thalidomide Damn dude, who's the one spasing out here. Maybe you should actually direct your comment at someone in particular. Now that I read the wonder's comment, I realize you were most likely talking to him. Just a miss understanding man, don't hurt yourself over there.
MadTitan - 5/12/2012, 6:43 AM

believing that Nolan alone raised the bar for the cbm adaptations is just plain overrated! this is the same hardcore ideas that put the mad in me over that hilarious a## kiss*ng activities that the Nolanites does everytime.

the guy is not even a god (not even close), and calling such man (metaphorically or not) is just plain preposterous and stupid.

Kalel219 - 5/12/2012, 6:46 AM
"peel back the onion, and you get nothing but a weak story wrapped up with good character moments"

You forgot to add "A great fun movie to watch"
GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 6:47 AM
thalidomide - 5/12/2012, 6:49 AM

Me? Spasing out? Dude I just stoop down to your level so you could understand what I'm saying. Maybe you should read carefully before you say something idiotic.
GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 6:54 AM
@thaliomide Reread the comments and try to figure out how this happened. Lol. Try not blurting comments out randomly.
RealGothamite - 5/12/2012, 6:56 AM
Nolan is God... yeah that's right I said it!

GiantNerd - 5/12/2012, 6:56 AM
@thalidomide Why do you think people direct comments at specific people when they're talking?

Either way, it's over and done with. A learning experience I guess. Lol.
R888 - 5/12/2012, 7:00 AM
Great Ending
[frick] yes yes
Kalel219 - 5/12/2012, 7:01 AM
Now let's look how UNaccurate Nolan's films are.

-Scarecrow is NOTHING like he was in the comics
-Ducard is Ras
-Joker wears face paint instead of getting dropped in acid
-He doesn't go around the world to train? He just goes around the world, before he met Ra's in the movie he clearly had no overall plan or direction with his life.
- Maroni is not SOLELY responsible for Two face.
- Two face died.
NextHero08 - 5/12/2012, 7:11 AM
It's still early May and TDKR comes out in late JULY! There is more than enough time to get people excited for this film, which will be as good, if not better, than the Avengers. I don't care what people say, Nolan has a proven track record for creating good movies, despite the peoples first impression. I have no reason under the sun to not believe this will be a great film, not one. So if you don't want to see the film, then don't see it. The rest of us will be going to see a another movie masterpiece done by Nolan. Nolan proved that cbm's don't have to be predictable, colorful, cheesy, kiddy films. It's nice to have something gritty and more so for the adults AND manage to have children still enjoy it. The Fire Rises.
Irons - 5/12/2012, 7:13 AM
^People are excited for it. WB isn't concerned with trying to convert the miniscule group of fans in the genre who (claim to have) wrote it off already. They're not as important as they think they are.

Kalel219 - 5/12/2012, 7:17 AM
"It's nice to have something gritty and more so for the adults"

Worse thing to ever have to CBMs
TheDetectiveComicRises - 5/12/2012, 7:21 AM
@NextHero08 well said.
